Can you imagine being a celebrity's child? You never know what your name will be. Legal names, like Little Pixie, Peaches Honeyblossom, Prince Michael , Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, etc. HERE'S a list I found.

Poor kids.

Reminder of topic

Have you ever dated or wanted to date someone yet disliked their name and what did you do about it?

I've never met someone whom I liked where I didn't like their name. But if I did, that's what pet names are for!

Normally if they are a wonderful person then they redeem their name.

Agreed, I've had some people redeem the names of bad ex's for me recently. It's a good thing too, because they're common names and I'd hate to have to write those names off forever!

Tritto. Especially my ex husband's name. Although I've been blessed to where I haven't had any opportunities to date someone with his name. God is good.

Some of those are profoundly awful. Some aren't at all bad: Carys Zeta Douglas. (Carys is a Welsh name that means "Beloved").

But some of those parents need to be slapped before they procreate again. But in a loving, Christian way.

At school - about eighty years ago - my mother knew an Ima Hogg. Mom shuddered every time she mentioned her.

Ima Hogg was a famous (texas famous) socialite from Houston

Indeed? It seems more than one set of parents had a sick sense of humour.

Or was it Iva Hogg? It's been so many years....

Her name was Ima. She was the daughter of the Governor of Texas. Although she only had three brothers, the joke growing up was that her sister's name was Ura.

my second husband's last name was dingbaum. i'm sorry...i just couldn't do it. i kept my own last name. giggle the first family reunion i attended, the younger cousins all sat around telling stories about the horrors of growing up with that name. the funniest was when one cousin ordered pizza delivery one night...and had to call like 15 times, cuz the pizza place thought he was just pranking them! he finally just gave them another last name. lol

even when "we" were pregnant, we flipped a coin to see whose last name he/she would have. and i'll tell you...i named my daughter a name that could never be shortened (hannah), cuz i couldn't bear the idea of anyone calling my little elizabeth "lizzy" or "betty". now my son has always been tyler...until middle school when HE decided he wants all his friends to call him ty. why? i ask you???? giggle

as for myself, i love my name...kimberly. and i positively HATE when someone calls me kim. i make allowances for some people here "back home," who knew me from the beginning. but i'd actually rather be called kimmie (which only a handful are still alive to do) than kim. every time a stranger calls me kim, i correct them. lol "does is SAY kim in the computer? because i know i wrote my name correctly as kimberly when i completed the form." or "no....this is kimberly." or "i prefer kimberly...not kim." every time i see the terminal manager at work, he tells everyone within earshot "do y'all know miss kimberly? don't call her kim...she prefers kimberly." cracks me up every time.

No offense to ladies with the names.

Do not like

Christina or Tina
Kimberly or Kim
Susie or Sue (but like Susan)
Kathy or Cathy

And so far have not been faced with it in someone I like

My name is Tina, and one of my pet peeves is when people assume it's short for Christina. It's actually short for LaTina, and another pet peeve is when people look at me and say "but you're not hispanic". DUHHHH. Mom named me after someone she knew in high school and just liked the name.

Haven't dated any guys whose name I haven't liked. I did date a guy who's last name was Smith...a LOT easier than my own! Haha.

I already told about my former dislike for my name, but kimberly reminded me of when my daughter was a toddler. The family always called her SAM (her initials), until she learned to talk. She firmly told a stranger, who called her Samantha, "My name is NOT Samantha. It is NOT SAM. It is Sydnye. Thank you very much!"

She was about 16 months at the time!!!!!!!!

I dislike my own first name so much that I began using my middle name several years ago. It's a very unusual name. I haven't met many people other than family who have ever heard of it. Thus, 99.9% of the time it is misprounced. If people, companies, the gov't, etc. only see that name, they construe my gender to be male. Consequently I've received comments directed to "Mr. pruned", denial of coverage (mammo), and a request for me to sign up for selective service. And that's the short list of why I don't like my name.

I have not heard a man's name that alone would cause me not to date him.

My last name has 10 letters, 4 syllables and is unpronounceable unless you know Polish or have heard it before.

M's last name was Jones. I think she loved me.

If you married him and had a daughter and she married George Stiltskin's son she'd be Rumpel-Stiltskin!!

If Tuesday Weld married Frederick March II she'd be Tuesday March II!

If John Lennon's widow would have married Cher's first husband she'd be Yoko Ono Bono!

This one just kills me. I almost spit out all my drinks!

And yeah, Oprah would be a perfect match for Deepak. They both have that new age, smorgasborg of theology going. Together, they can rule the world as the Anti Christ! LOL.
