Do music ministers go to seminary? Our church doesn't have a music minister. Enlighten me?

Yes many do go to seminary. They do other things beside lead the music.

Makes sense that he would want to get "settled" before the new baby arrives!

L5Ropeholder -> RE: Jason Waldroup's Going to Seminary (4/28/2008 8:22:18 PM)

Bummer, they won't be singing anywhere close to me. I wish him ALL the best. We will miss him greatly.

Sure they do. At Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where I attended, you can get a Masters or Doctorate in Church Music or Divinity or Missions or Christian Education, and several other fields. I would imagine Jason will be working on bachelor's level work first however, in whatever direction he feels led to go. He's a great Christian man, father and husband and I know will do well. He's had a great training ground for the past 13 years.

Robert, you heard wrong. That's the problem when people get "inside" information from anyone besides the people actually involved. As I said in our original Press Release on March 31, Jason will be traveling with Greater Vision through most of the Summer. He does not begin his schooling until sometime in August. As soon as we can, and probably as early as sometime next week, we will release more detailed information, including information about his final concert date with us. Until then, please continue to pray for Jason and his family as they prepare for this transition, and for us as we do the same.

Well, now there is someone you might be able to talk into going with you. (SGEnthusiast)

By the way, if you're willing to travel 3 hours 20 minutes, there's one in mid-May in northern Ohio (1 1/2 to 2 hours from me) that I am thinking about. It's a free video taping on May 16 in Castalia, Ohio. The person doing the taping (Greg Lockridge--?on sp) is bringing them in to help encourage people to come.

Interested?

Sometimes it's 'we' and sometimes it's 'me' but a good concert is worth the drive and I often make it alone.

GREATER VISION NEWS

UPDATE ON JASON'S PLANS

Beginning in August, Jason will be pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Music and Bible at Louisiana Baptist University. Since it's been thirteen years since he's been in school, he's currently studying for tests that he will have to take later this Summer, before beginning his classes.

Upon completion of his Bachelor's Degree, he will become a student of the Luther Rice Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georiga. Currently, he plans to finish his Master's Degree program there.

So far, the most asked question has been..."are you going to be studying to be a Pastor?" The actual answer is that Jason will be studying to become a Music & Worship Pastor, which will give him the opportunity to influence the music of the Church, as well as teaching people to become more committed and serious about their relationship with Christ, and their responsibilities as members of His family.

Here's some exciting news of God's provision....

This past Sunday (5/4), Pastor Larry Maddox and the congregation of Central Baptist Church in Katy, Texas (near Houston) unaminously extended an invitation for Jason to join the staff of the church as their Music and Worship Pastor. He will begin his ministry there on Sunday August 10. Since much of Jason's time will be consumed with studying, his wife, Missy, will be assisting him with his responsibilities at the church. they will be working as a team in the Music Department, which is a really exciting opportunity for both of them, as well as for the church. Many people are not aware of Missy's extensive background in Church Music and Studio Porduction, so she will be a tremendous asset to both Jason the the Music Program at Central.

We are thankful to God for His leading and His provision during this exciting time of transition.

Dinana -> RE: Jason Waldroup's Going to Seminary (5/5/2008 2:29:57 PM)

But there's more!!! Here's what the newsletter also said:

Greater Vision is establishing a Scholarship Fund through the release of a special CD which features the thirteen most requested songs Jason has recorded with Greater Vision over the past thirteen years. A large portion of the purchase price of this CD will be used exclusively for Jason's education expenses.

Titles include: "Victory In Jesus", "The Lily Of The Valley", "God's Grace Is Sufficient For Me", "He Left It All", "Just Ask", "I Will Glorify Him", "With All The Many Miracles", "He's Still Waiting By The Well", "You Can", "Samaritan's Heart", "My Favorite Place", "The Other Miracles", and "God Wants To Hear You Sing".

. . .

After Jason completes his education, we would love to be able to continue to assist other young men and women as they prepare for various forms of ministry involving music. We'll keep you updated on our progress.

This must be the "other project" Gerald was talking about that would delay the "Until Now" project that was being discussed in the "Everyday People" thread . . . . . The CD featuring Jason's songs can be ordered on the GV website.

Yes, he is a wonderful young man and I'm sure he will be used in a mighty way. I love the way that Gerald phrased it....

I lived there for 3 years but I was a member of Kingsland Baptist. I know where Central is though...I'm very happy for him and his family. I know he will do great things.
