I feel bad for people who cut, I know its wrong, but a lot of them do it because they feel they have no escape from their pain, they haven't experienced Jesus' healing in their lives. I feel for them

Cutting originally started as a way of escape, it's better to feel physical pain than emotional pain. But today, tons of teens are using cutting to get attention. Some many "emos" in my school show up in tank tops with their arms slashed millions of times and complain about how horrible their lives are. Either way, it shows that they have a problem.

Pulling statistics out of thin air is fun. Research is also fun, and actually informative. According to my surface-scratching research (pun intended) on Wikipedia...

I realize that this isn't relegated simply to cutting, but from what I can find nearly 90% of all people who Self-Injure have engaged in practices which draw blood. (Scratching/Cutting, I'm not including those who punch themselves or other objects). Even taking that extra 10% off keeps your statistic far from accurate.
Since we're here in the jolly ol' US of A, let's use the 9.8% statistic from the second survey. If we take 10% off, we end up with 8.82% of Americans as cutters. That's roughly 1/11 people (rounding down) that cut. Less than half of your provided statistic.
I don't know what percentage of emos cut in comparison to non-emos, but even if the statistics are even (which I strongly suggest is the case), we still have roughly 1/11 emos cutting.
Have fun with this new, correct statistic. Instead of responding that only 1 in every 11 emos cut, simply tell people that 1 in 11 people cut, and that it is a prevalent problem in America.
