SGEnthusiast -> RE: First Southern Gospel Memories... (4/26/2008 10:29:45 PM)

When I was somewhere between 10 and 12, Mom bought an aerobics cassette which had songs by Amy Grant, BJ Thomas, and some other contemporary artists but it had two songs by the Happy Goodman Family including one called "Only the Sound of His Trumpet." I fell in love with the song immediately and set out to find anything I could about them and their music (which wasn't easy at the time). Most people I encountered had never heard of Southern Gospel music and those who had didn't seem to care for it. A couple years after that, I found a radio station which played SG music 24/7 and I was hooked. Then, on May 13, 1989, my mom sacrificed and paid for a ticket for me to go see Gold City. I don't think I'd been to a concert prior to that where the singers were available to meet people, and all of the members of GC were so friendly. They each hold a special place in my heart to this day. I am so thankful that God led me to this music and that He continues to use it to minister to me.
