THEREDCAPE -> Arrogance before God (4/23/2008 9:58:14 PM)

Some of the new age teachings that have flooded the church in recent years include a rather arrogant "in your face" approach to God in witness, prayer, and treatment of others.

Many see the universe spinning for their own needs and pleasures. "God does not mind if I take His name in vain", "He forgives me when I attack my fellow believers", and other such views seem to be growing across a broad spectrum of denominations, churches, and theological stances.

Kindness, meekness, a humble and devout attitude seem to be a thing of the past. "Sin boldly" seems to be the battlecry.

How do we combat this? What is the fate of those who proclaim Christ with one hand, while mocking God with their mouths? Why has this come about?

bluestone -> RE: Arrogance before God (4/23/2008 10:51:07 PM)

I think several things have contributed. The fads in theology have taken hold. People want eye candy religion.
The swing away from legalism has rebounded in the opposite, and equally dangerous realm of "anything goes, Jesus is my homeboy" kind of philosophy.

I don't know that we can combat it, other than with sound Bible based doctrine.

It has come about because we fear losing people from churches, so we bend to accommodate as many as possible.

the fate of these people is a false sense of relationship with a God they have perhaps never really known.

FurGodWurLivin -> RE: Arrogance before God (4/24/2008 5:50:11 AM)

Best way to combat it...... pray for God to give a spirit of wisdom and revelation to the churches (Ephesians 1:17-19). That isn't just a trite little answer, it's the honest to goodness truth. Pray for God to give wisdom and revelation to the church in America.

I agree with this post but I think we need to take that prayer a bit further. The heart of American has become hard. We should also pray that God will soften our hearts so we can hear and recieve the word. JMHO

Some people see their spiritual journey as a highway where they can bump others off the road into the ditches as they go. Who gets hurt in the aftermath does not matter, as long as religious speed racer gets to where they are headed...not knowing they themselves took a doctrinal wrong turn way back.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Arrogance before God (4/24/2008 8:40:44 AM)

Most ideals exist in a pendulum situation. Tyhe moods swing back and forth.

Extreme legalism leads to liberal perversions.

Liberal perversions lead to legalism.

That is why group think is a bad thing and salvation is an individual event, not a group one.

P31W -> RE: Arrogance before God (4/24/2008 8:52:17 AM)

Be a living example of Christlikeness.

I know when I start acting "bad" and get around someone who is Christlike ---- I cannot help but notice the differance. It kinda "slaps me in the face".

I am not talking "holier than thou"... "I am good and judging you'..... stuff....I am talking true Christlikeness.

bluestone -> RE: Arrogance before God (4/24/2008 12:39:37 PM)

I think bad doctrine will always be at the root of this sort of thing.

Anisavta -> RE: Arrogance before God (4/24/2008 1:30:42 PM)

There is a famine of the Word of G~d. It is not high priority these days. It is much easier to just fall into the "I am led by the Spirit", but many have their own idea of what we are led to do.

This sums it all up:
2Ti 3:1 Know this also, that in the last days grievous times will be at hand.
2Ti 3:2 For men will be self-lovers, money-lovers, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 without natural affection, unyielding, false accusers, without self-control, savage, despisers of good,
2Ti 3:4 traitors, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
2Ti 3:5 having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it; even turn away from these.

These days we see some parts of society upholding arrogance before men as something wonderful! We are expressing our freedom of speech by being "in your face" with others. Road rage, frenzy killings, etc. all are part of a society with few restraints.

It was only a matter of time untill it spilled over into the spiritual.
People seem to think that words such as humble, gentle, kind, and meek are vulgar.[&o]

Anisavta -> RE: Arrogance before God (4/25/2008 12:25:26 PM)

I think part of the problem is society (and sadly the Believing community also) has allowed evolution to create the basis for thinking. Since according to evolution G~d did not create life then nothing is sacred. People are not valued because according to evolution nothing was created in the image of G~d. We can kill life at the beginning and at the end of life if there is inconvience involved. Since I am the "master of my own destiny" in this way of thinking then I can choose my own rules for living.

I don't know any true, born-again believers who are like this, so this would definitely be a concern and very confusing to me.

I have seen this very thing in myself and have taken action to stop it and prevent it, hoping to be more and more successful through our L-rd. Some friends and family and I talk of this often, because we learned it through religion, and as I recently told my daughter, I am sick to death of religion that teaches this as well as religion that teaches that we must be so open-minded that we accept and coddle any and all beliefs, even when they are high-hand-in-the-face-of-G-d against what He had told us in the Bible.

Growing up in the L-rd will work out much of this.

With regard to those who are the called, our G-d has had mercy upon us when we have done this and repented, and similarly, He will have mercy upon others.

ORIGINAL: THEREDCAPE
Why has this come about?

We all need time to grow. Some of us did not receive the teaching that would have tempered this, and some of us have been stubborn (which is as the sin of witchcraft). I think that we tend to see it more clearly when we have begun to grow out of it; that is when we need the grace of G-d to be as tollerant with those who are growing as others were of us as we have grown.

bowlight -> RE: Arrogance before God (5/18/2008 10:43:13 PM)

Arrogance before God? That is a good question.
God showed me in a vision, as a man was coming against me with a demonic: a very large rooster, who was trying to get his web foot through a double glass door, and could not do it. He thought himself BIG. God told me "he's arrogant."
What did he do? He was sneaking around, and came into my apartment and read my journal. He heard me dancing in my apartment to praise and worship tapes, along with oldies but goodies and so forth. He thought I was high on drugs, and not on Jesus Christ. He was/is a drug addict and alcoholic. He had keys to all the apartments. He broke in, and he gave those keys to others who were just like him. Arrogance is not at all to God's liking. He abhores it!
That year, many emails were received....but damage had been done in previous years. I wouldn't come to realize that until 2006...the end of that year....when a former manager said something to her. There had been some very disconcerting things happening to her--thievery, abuse, stalking, and she was having dreams. Dreams she had not had prior. Usually her dreams were filled with splashes of water--Holy Spirit filled dreams. She knew a former manager/owner had broken into her apartment--carelessness. He was a careless person and so wasn't his girlfriend. She saw his jeep outside in the parking lot--parked right next to it. Actually it was his girlfriend's, but he used it as well. It was neat for a change! Arrogant to walk into another person's home, and break things
...don't ya' think? No boundaries for some people.
Anyway...in Sept/Oct of 2006 I received a report from the doctor. I had to go in for prevention of cervical cancer. "Designer software" was what one of the emails said. "Soviet Union Re-instatement" was another email.
There were many emails. Arrogance on the part of the senders. Wicked and disgusting things were done in the form of abuse by the arrogant.
No one saw that letter I received, save a CNA who was taking care of an elderly aunt in Jackson Square in Weymouth. I left that home, and was riding through the center of Jackson Square. Parked to the side in front of the hardware store was the former manager/owner. He smiled and said
through the open window...."it was like putting perfume on the tip of a pin"
God gave me the word "abuse of power", and much more through those months. Arrogance. Then, God gave me Hezekiah...and his prayer..and told me "don't worry"....but I had prayers lifted up, and God took care of business....
I have had 2 1/2 years of emotional abuse via medical technology by people who thought they had the right to do what they did....but God brought me to Job 5:12, 13 and other Scriptures....
What will God do with the wicked? What will He do with the arrogant?
"God is a Righteous God and He cuts the wicked asunder." And, in Proverbs, He states He hates arrogancy....pride...and a list of many...He will contend for any of us who fight with us... Isaiah 49:25 "I will contend with those who contend with you." He says it...and His word is true...
I believe He will contend with the arrogant as well...

This takes a little different tack, but I have always cringed at some of the WOF talk, telling folks to *demand* what "belongs to them". That God is "legally bound" to do what you say if you speak it in faith. That God right now has no access to the Earth or to the spiritual world except through us because Satan is ruling at the moment.

To me, that is the epitome of arrogance.

I'm pretty much a city boy but even I know that roosters don't have web feet...

I agree. I call it "Genie in a bottle" theology.

War4Him -> RE: Arrogance before God (6/3/2008 10:06:52 PM)

It's true that the new theologies have lured people away from the Gospel. They've done that by watering down the message of Jesus and that is why the cultists are going to go to Hell. Evil preachers have exploited the Gospel for their own convenience but God's vengeance will be upon them for the evil they have done to His Word so that they might sell cheap diluted wine polluted with pesticides!

Agreed. Really scares me for those who eat this up. I am so glad that my son and his wife, while they were once in this type of doctrine, have found their way out of it.
