Part of the Dove Awards was a snooze-fest. The paying customers were like dead as a door knob, especially with some of the musical numbers. The crowd acted like they were unconcerned like they were saying, "Get me otta here," or something. Especially when the gospel artists came on board, it was like there was no support or anything. The only movement was from Dr. Bobby Jones, Sandi Patty and Mark Lowely (sp?) when they showed them on camera. Also, Kirk Franklin. This was until Charlie Daniels ,Mac Powell and various Southern Gospel artists took the stage, the place lightened up. Also the tribute to MWS, which included three idols. I'm glad Styll and co. gave props to the Late, Great Larry Norman. But at the same time, I was disapointed they did not give props to Roby Duke as well. Now to the winners-- Natalie Grant--Deserved this award and this woman I do admire for her humbleness. Mark Hall and his Casting Crowns group--Another deserved win. Toby Mac--This was another deserved win for this indivisual, and this award CC did not get because this man repesented the urban genre. He was artist of the year. Brandon Heath--I was suprized he won, because he was in a field with a lot of talented people. I gave this broadcast a C, because this should have been a celebration, but unfortuantly it was like a funeral. What do you think?

I thought Chris Tomlin looked like a frightened puppy every time the camera was on him. What was up with that? Casting Crowns's performance was boring, as usual, and sounded like their monitors weren't working. Ugh! Wynona totally outsang Natalie Grant! They should have just had her up there without Natalie! Trinitee 5-17 (or whatever their name is) did a pretty good job. I don't really care for artists who sing live over a vocal track, but they didn't ask me before hand... I ony saw the first half of the show. I recorded the rest, just in case something spectacular happened after I turned it off.

i enjoy that song Trinitee 5:7 does. Their performance was probably the best one. I was surprised to see Toby Mac win so many things, because he had some really tough competition. Thankfully, I believe Casting Crowns will have a chance to sit out of alot of these awards as long as they don't release another album before early 2008. Don't get me wrong, I bought their album, and it's pretty good. I really enjoyed the tribute to MWSmith, it was cool to see the three idols up there. Amy Grant sounded like she was struggling to sing though.

I though they were a disappointment, but award shows usually are. The GMA's need to adjust the format a bit and put more of the modern styles of music upfront. I know that Southern Gospel is important but leave that to the preshow awards. David Crowder Band was pretty cool the set up was I think somewhat unique. I also saw the Switchfoot performance and was a tad annoyed they played their new song for the "Narnia" movie that no one knows yet. I am going to see them in concert tomorrow in fact and I was hoping to see something that would get me really excited for the concert. Well, it was a Beautiful Letdown, (ha ha, play on words) I also think they need to give awards to other groups besides TobyMac and Casting Crowns. UGH! I like TobyMac ( but not Casting Crowns) but there are better bands out there than need to be showcased and brought to the forefront of the industry... they have got to do more to shine light on the Christian music industry.

Loved every minute of it! Favorite song of the night - "So Great". For me, the Dove Awards is not about being entertained...it's about celebrating together the greatness of God. And a big "thank you" to CCM for your part in this week. Well done, everyone! (Now, then, I'm off to go buy "So Great" because that dollar might make a difference somewhere in the world).

Unfortunately, it shows how obvious it is that the Christian Music industry suffers as a whole, because apparently Christian Hit Radio format has not expanded to a point where it will make a large impact on the awards. It seems every year that mainly the AC category is celebrated, because that is what is heard on Family Friendly format. There is a place for that music, but it by far is not the most popular music in the Christian music industry, so why does it win all of the awards? I think there is starting to be a slight shift towards the "hit" music in the industry, but it's a slow shift.

I think RHardin15 is correct in that it is about exposure. And, generally speaking, the Christian market is about safety, non-threatening music, which is why Steven Curtis Chapman and Casting Crowns sell more than Demon Hunter in Christian Stores and Demon Hunter sells better than Steven Curtis Chapman outside of Christian stores. IMHO

Am I the only one who thinks that Casting Crowns' singer Mark Hall is a vocal dead ringer for Steven Curtis Chapman? Which is probably why I've never been a huge fan; we already have a Steven Curtis Chapman. Well, that and the fact that CC has had one great song ("Who Am I") followed up by a string of utterly mediocre "hits".....

Basically the only thing that I was happy about was that Skillet's comatose won something. (Was it rock album of the year? gosh, I don't even remember!) Krystal meyers should have won female vocalist. Sorry to Natalie grant fans. But Krystal deserves it. I'm almost always ticked when someone wins more than one award, so toby and casting crowns winnings were a huge dissapointment for me. Especially video of the year. Yeah. boomin rawks. I love it. but it did NOT deserve to win over Anime David crowder, Family Force 5, TFK, and Name Droppin by T-bone. ESPECIALLY not Name Droppin by T-bone. But I know there were some categories that I missed that might make me happy. nobody get mad at me, that's just my blunt opinion.^

I think Natalie Grant deserved Female Vocalist of the Year. East to West was the best song of the year. Toby Mac rocks! Woot! I did not agree with Brandon Heath winning at all or Chris Tomlin.

So you're saying that black gospel artists, praise and worship or other musical genres of Christian music don't celebrate the greatness of God? And I think the FF format controls the voting because there are many talented artists outhere, but they do not get regonized because either they never heard of them and FF format are the only format people are used to. But I believe too that many of these people are not educated of many musical styles because they never been taught or set foot in a black church nor a hip hop concert. While this year's awards is a start, more should be done to encourage diversity in the Christian music field. Another problem is that people like "us" do not join the GMA, and I feel that more repesentation from the urban gospel community should be encouraged. This is the only music which has a lot of segration and how Christian musicians can be a witness to the entire world when the Christian musicans, gospel and CCM cannot get it together, accepting one another. I believe it is really, really sad and the world looks at us as people who cannot get our houses in order. Then too, the body of Christ is to blame as well.

I agree with what gaylel1 said. Usually the first or second nominee almost ALWAYS gets the award! That's just NOT fair at all! It hurts the other artists! I believe the AMERICAN PEOPLE that spend their hard money on good CD's should vote on who wins, not JUST THE INDUSTRY! Yes, it is very sad that people just pay attention to the "big guys" and not EVERYONE! Who agrees with me?!

As a musician, giving some leeway for live performance, I am wondering if Smitty may have played "Thy Word" in the wrong key for Amy last night. She's an alto, in her late 40s now, and even though she's a pro she just didn't sound comfortable when they did that song. And when they all sang Smitty's "Agnus Dei" -- ouch! It started out okay but things got pretty pitchy and the melody (a little high once again, IMHO) kinda got lost. But it is awesome when the folks on stage and in the audience worship God together, and Lord knows you don't have to sound perfect to do that well! As a whole the night was spotty. Some good, some not so good. When SC2 does his "best of" show on the Gospel Music channel, you can see that the stage/set from past years was much nicer, more polished and professional-looking. This year's event seemed a little rough around the edges for some reason.

to the one who said leave SOuthern Gospel to preshow awards. apparently you need to read the history of that awards program. SG pioneers started the GMA. I dont watch awards shows cause is usually ****. as for the winners. almost all my faves did win. get back to the crying over this genre is better than that genre. I think Gaylel has said it right.
