Yesterday I managed to get someone out of jail who had not paid any child support since 2004. Just doing my part to make the justice system great.

How could they pay child support while in jail. Isn't that like the old debtors prison?

The person should be required to pay, but they have to have a job first.

Not paying child support is contempt of court, and the person in contempt can be jailed for it. They are usually not pursued until they are way behind, usually thousands of dollars.

The purpose is to force compliance. The non-payor can "purge" their contempt by paying a purge payment set by the judge.

Gary, the most common thing I hear is: "I can't pay support if I'm in jail." This usually comes from someone who has worked steadily, but never paid, so it doesn't carry much weight with judges.

Interestingly, despite the talk about "deadbeat dads", female non-custodial parents are 20% more likely to not pay than males.

I could make one and then post a link to my album where everyone could just get it from there if they want.

I love it!!!

Larry had his kids for over 15 years and his x never paid a dime in support.

In this area it is more like 25 percent of the females that do not pay. When they land in jail the first thing I hear is "I don't have any money to pay with" but they are dressed for a fashion parade by the looks. The judges just look at them, tells them to pay the money then, and only then, they can get out of jail. It surprises my how most of the time they can find the money to pay with when their story & tears did not work.

Can't the court attach the wages?.

I work with a lady whose ex has worked off the grid for years to avoid paying. I can see jailing someone to send a message, but how does the system balance sending a message and collecting the money?

I hate to leave since I have barely caught up with this thread and have virtually ignored the rest of SG, not to mention my friends in PFY.

However (you will love this cranky) Cindy and I have dentist appointments at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.

They like it when we come because we sit in adjoining cubicles while getting our teeth cleaned and carry on a comedy routine for the whole staff.

Unfortunately, the hygienist who has been cleaning my teeth for fifteen years has moved away, so I will be breaking in a new one.

As Ms. Giz said, it is amazing how people can come up with some money if it will get them out of jail.

Yes, they do wage assignments.

BTW, jail is generally ordered only after a non-payor has been given repeated chances to comply.

Gary, did you see my bagpipe joke earlier?

LOL. I have gotten used to it. I have done it for years. Not to get too personal but I have a plaque problem. The worst thing is my jaw is sore for having it opened so wide for the procedure.

My dentist put a thingymajigger in my mouth for me to bite on and keep my mouth open comfortably. I don't know what it was called.

My hygienist does not use anything like that. I just have to hold it open on my own. The whole procdure takes about 45 minutes. The last time she used a high pressure water device to clean my teeth instead of the metal tools that she used to use.

Yes, she said if he even asked the court for money she'd petition to get them back, so he never did.

and I don't mind going to the dentist at all. It's one phobia I never developed.

You all will be very proud of me, especially Mona.

I did not eat any meat today.

For supper we had lettuce and tomato salad, sweet corn on the cob, pinto beans, and potatoes fried in olive oil.

I feel just like Euell Gibbons.

As long as you had some protein in there (beans). I am very proud of you. Sounds like an excellent dinner. Now go have a grass-fed, free range steak (preferably buffalo)!! But definitely on all the veggies!!!!! (I hope you had real butter on the corn instead of the spreadable plastic stuff.)

I'm going to the open house at the new bike shop tonight. I spoke with them earlier this week and they are on board with our new Get Your Owasso In Shape health challenge. They're going to measure me to fit me for a bike since none of the standard sizes fit me. They did have a small purple one with tassles hanging from the handlebars......

I don't have a court job either, and I don't care what it is as long as I get to carry a gun. Do you have a bodyguard, sir?

I call it a jaw jacker. My mouth is small, so they use one on me too.
