I just checked the cost of Atlanta to Knoxville flights. The cheapest is over $400, for a non stop flight that is 4 hours by car!!!!!!!!!. That makes no sense at all that KC to Knoxville thru Dallas is cheaper.

Have to agree with you on that. I would suggest bus but you don't need a looping tour of the countryside...it may take you a week to get there!!! Train???? I'm just full of suggestions ain't I??? Missed my calling...travel agent/tour director!

I think any train will go thru Chicago for a connecting train.

The price of flying KC to Greensboro would bring it down to about $300. How long is the trip from Greensboro?

It's about 4 hours... but if you had a place to stay Friday night you'd be covered. We'd be leaving out about 11AM ish.. Friday.

Yep. I'm going Hwy 77-I81... Up to Wytheville, Va and down to Tenn thataway.

If I lived in Roanoke I would be meeting ya there!!! I would just stay on I-81...watch out for those lovely VA State Troopers and the never ending line of Big Rigs!!!
Oh yeah... I learned the lesson about Va state troopers the easy way.
Sounds like a story here...
I'm telling you I cannot spell...shhhh....don't let Kerr see that...I'm skipping his class tomorrow.

Not really a story... The first time I came home from Fort Campbell, I went through Wytheville, VA. This dude passed me like I was sitting still. Less than a mile up the street, he was pulled over. I about laughed til I cried.

The way this is looking I would have to take Thursday, Friday and Monday off work. This would have been much more doable if it were in the middle of my vacation.

I need to think about this some more.

Yep...I laugh too when I see an out of state tag pass me by like that when I know it's an area heavily patrolled. Not much of I81 isn't. Oh...you better not get caught with one of those radar detectors either...against the law in VA.

Just dropping a quick note. We are having a very relaxing time on our vacation. We have internet at our hotel, so I've managed to read up on Kerrlaw's thread.

You people talk a lot!

I've eaten crab cakes, and I've watched a lot of boats. The coast is wonderful! I could seriously live here.

I've had the most wonderful Mother's Day, and I feel very blessed.

I'll check in tomorrow to see how the English classes are working out. If any of you are failing, we can blame Kerrlaw since he is the teacher, right?

I hear my bed calling my name, and tomorrow is a work day.

Good night.

Really, Sharon-Marie--this place is heavenly.

I told Mr. Cranky if I ever come up missing, just call this hotel. I told him to give me a few days before he comes looking for me though.

It's been a great choice for the kids. The view keeps them very occupied and happy. We have chairs in front of the windows and Mr. Cranky and I sit together and enjoy the view, while the kids try to figure out what kind of boats are coming by.

That reminds me of something that happened a few years ago. I was heading out on a 2 lane road one dark night in a rural area and needed to make a left hand turn. The road was 45mph. There were 3 cars coming the other direction, so I had to stop and wait for them to go by. There was no turn lane so traffic coming up behing me, had to stop. The first car to come up behind me stopped as well and had their blinker on to make the same turn. About this time, Mr. Idiot came flying up behind us and decided he didn't want to wait. He was probably going 55mph when he drove onto the gravel shoulder next to us and flew by us practically giving me a stroke. At this moment, the final oncoming car I was waiting on so I could make my turn slowed down and while I tried to get my heart rate below about 500 bpm, this oncoming car does a u-turn right in front of me. My first thought was that Mr. Idiot Jr was behind the wheel. My thoughts quickly turned to glee when my headlights hit the side of the u-turning car and I saw it was one of our local deputies who would have witnessed Mr. Idiot go careening by me on the gravel shoulder. If I'd had pompoms, I think I would have done a cheer...
