It is a great book. I read it many years ago. I should read it again.

Shows spiritual warfare, I think is accurate with Bible teaching.

Read it, you won't be sorry. It is well written.

I echo what the poster poster said.

The sequel, "Piercing The Darkness" is IMO even better.

I read both many years ago while in college. This Present Darkness is the only fiction book that I have read a 2nd time, so that should tell you how much I like it. I plan to read Piercing the Darkness again sometime in the near future.

I enjoy these two.

Can't say that I liked The Oath, though. Same author. . . less quality.

I LOVE this book! I've read quite a few of his books too. He also wrote Piercing the Darkness. One is the sequel to the other but I can't remember which came first. It's been ages ago since I read them. The last book I read by him is called "The Oath". Very good book also.

I read this book quite a while ago, but I remember loving it. I'm pretty sure I still have it somewhere. I'll have to give it another read

My absolute favorite book. I have read it over 20 times, no lie. The book on tape is very entertaining with great voice acting by Perretti and great demon voice effects.

Oh, good! I got both books from my secret sister and plan on reading then on our trip this summer. We are going to be in the car for a few days so it will be my thing to do. I can't wait to start them, but which should I read first?

Since Peircing The Darkness is a kind-of sequel and references events in the first one...I'd read This Present Darkness first.

I've also seen on a Peretti fansite that he says he's writing another sequel.

Thanks. Since I have no clue what the books are about, I have no clue what comes first. I knew they were related when I saw them, I just didn't know how. I am waiting for my vacation because that is going to be the only time I have to read. My kids are pretty good in the car and now that the middle child can read, she has one more thing to keep her occupied. Last year when we went to Florida, she couldn't read so we had to rely mostly on movies and games because coloring was out of the question. There is just something about crayons melting to the interior of the car that makes me NOT let them do that.

He also has out "The Visitation" and "Hangman's Curse". These 2 are also were made into dvd's unlike "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing the Darkness"

If you have teens "Hangman's Curse" is a good one for you and them to watch or read together. It deals with Parent /teen/school issues.

All of Frank Perretti's books I would reccommend.

I have to be a bit "nyah" about it. Not much, but a bit.

His view of spiritual warfare is, I think, a bit extra-biblical--people claiming to bind demons and devils and such. It's stuff I've heard in some of the charismatic circles I've been in, but I can't say that the scriptural basis for it is very solid.

That's about my only complaint with the books, though. There's much good in them.

I like Peretti's books. As for Biblical accuracy, it is fiction... IMO, it is Stephen King without the swearing, sex, and gore...

To me the first book started out a bit slow but once I got past the first 30-40 pages I really enjoyed it. The sequel was also excellant.

The Bible says that whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. And He does give us power over demons through Him.
