The best part of being a kid in the 70's is we went outside to play not much of that today '''at least like that. How about the California Freeformer the first mass produced skateboard

I was a kid in the 70's but there's no way I can remember when JFK was shot. That happened in 1963. I was on the way, but I wasn't born yet. But let's see...what do I remember that hasn't been mentioned yet? I remember learning disco dances in gym class, but was very ambivalent about doing them because my church believed that dancing was sinful. Homeschooling hadn't caught on yet, and I endured public school feeling different from my peers because of all the things we didn't do that they couldn't understand why we didn't do. What else do I remember? Wading in the creek and catching minnows. I guess that's not a shared experience of other seventies kids, (though I think legalism in churches, especially southern churches, is!) but how many kids would have the opportunity to do something like that today? Besides, we didn't have computer or video games then. Somehow, I think the creek was at least a little more wholesome, even though we had to make sure we stayed upstream of the cows! Memeograph worksheets!

on a more somber note... Charles Manson Son of Sam Zodiac Killer I'm sure there are more that I just can't remember or don't want to remember Oh! And the movie The Exorcist! The book was very scary, the movie was just downright gross.

Serial killers were almost normal in the 70's. That combined with movies were enough for everyone to have nightmares! Oh and towards the end of the 70's Bette Midler was becoming popular among the regular people. Jesus Christ Superstar was new and Fiddler on the Roof was my favorite movie!

I had never heard of Bette Midler until The Rose. I loved the song and thought the movie was OK. Never saw Jesus Christ, Superstar- my non-Christian parents thought that it was a way of degrading Christians and wouldn't let us see it. I loved Fiddler on the Roof!

I watched the Waltons, but could never get into Little House on the Prairie. And the 70's was the decade full of nighttime soaps like Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon's Crest, etc. etc.

I wasn't allowed to watch those nighttime soaps, but I do remember them. I agree with the poster who said The Waltons were awesome. I loved that show because it was so much like my own family! I watched Little House on the Prairie, too, and really liked it as well, because somewhere along the way, I found out that Melissa Sue Gilbert was the same age as me, so I kind of felt like I was growing up with her.

She's a year older than me. I always thought of her and Kristy McNichol as the "older sisters" I never had.

You know you're a child of the 70s when you despise the song Raindrops. Has any other song been played more than that one?

You know you're a 70s kid when you remember that it wasn't cool to like Elvis or country music -- back then anyway.

You know you're a 70s kid when you... know what a Gremlin is. I wonder if those things are collector items now. have a pet rock in its original "crate" buried in your "things" in the basement. have a bunch of old Foghat and Bad Company albums in the basement. Or Maybe a few Yes, Grand Funk Railroad or Cat Stevens albums. have numerous National Lampoon and a huge pile of Mad magazines in the basement.

But you really know you're a 70s kid when you have a stack of 8 tracks by Kansas and Three Dog Night and Jethro Tull that you got when you joined Columbia House for a $1 and your parents didn't understand why they were being dunned for the rest of the bill.

and I'll have you know that my dad put me on a payment plan when I joined Columbia House and found out the deal was not a deal. Course, it took him like 6 months to figure it out, but still....
