I have really curly hair too.

I don't think I've used a blow dryer or a curling iron since the '90s- or before. I prefer my natural style. I'm not sure if that's because I'm lazy, wise or old.

Polyester pants.
Short shorts with nylons and heels.
"feathering" your hair.
The "Farrah" cut - which is really known as a linus.

Guys with Mike Brady perms. Guilty of that one myself.

Everyone thought my parents let my younger brother get one. He just has naturally curly hair.

I can remember my sisters using a hair dryer with a hood like a shower cap connected to a hose.

I had one of those! Then I had the bright idea to remove the bonnet so I could just use the hose to dry my hair. That was before blow dryers, or at least I'd never heard of one. I thought someone stole my idea when they came out.

I remember going to macrame classes! :D

MACRAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad's brother made us one of those lamps one year for Christmas. My mom took it in the divorce. I think they fought harder for custody of the lamp than they did for custody of us. My uncle made my dad another lamp.

Speaking of divorce.....

Remember when most of your friends had two parents living at home?

tiger beat was the best!

it was very coveted among my friends because the air base exchange only got so many copies and you had to get there early to get one.

Tiger Beat, 16, Teen Beat, 17 - you know where my allowance went. I'd take my weekly dollar and go to 7-Eleven and get one mag., candy bar and a soda.

I remember saving my pennies to buy albums

I saved forever to buy George Harrison's All Things Must Pass set. Cost a fortune, something like $20.00

Did we already talk about patches on jeans and jean jackets?

Anyways, that's where the rest of my money went. Buying patches...

If I had a birthday or there was a 5th Saturday in a month, I'd go spend my dollar buying the latest 45 record. They cost $1.05 with tax and my dad would always give me the lecture about money not growing on trees when I asked for that extra nickel.

I had a girlfriend named Julie who loved Bobby Sherman and then when he came out with Julie, Do You Love Me? I thought she would lose her mind.

45's were great! I had one of those "fancy" stereos where you could put a stack of 20 on it to play.

I could put a lot on mine, but I couldn't do 20.

I used to have to do extra chores so that about once a month I could go to Radio Shack and buy a new needle for my record player. Radio Shack was about a mile away and I walked there and back.

Me too. I'm living in the house that I lived in during the '70s and Radio Shack is still in the same place. The 7-Eleven was burnt down though.

Remember when Spirograph actually came with real, sharp straight pins to hold down the pieces?

Fess up gals...who wore a jumpsuit to high school?

I once heard a youth pastor speak to parents on youth culture..probably in the late 90s/2000ish...he was discussing how each generation "hates" the youth culture of their kids' generation and how everyone's parents alway remembers their music as innocent and sweet. Then he said:

" Face it folks..it has been scientifically-proven that more girls got pregnant to Barry Manilow than all the punk rockers and rappers in the whole history of the world combined!" He went on to sing a few a bars of Weekend in New England or Somewhere in the Night and then paused and said " Yeah...you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing don't cha? "

It was hysterical.

LOL
I didn't wear jumpsuits, but my dad had an entire wardrobe of them

My day was jeans...and uh...jeans - ones with about a 2" zipper and so long they got frayed from wear - topped with bubble shirts or halter tops.

I didn't go to the store to buy Tiger Beat - I had a subscription. I kept 6 years back issues for a long time, but they finally got in the way, so I threw them out. Watch them we worth something some day!

Yes, I had the step-in jumpsuits & had to iron on the letters to my last name on the back. Gosh, I hated those things. Well, I guess they were ugly so the guys wouldn't stare at us! Remember playing cricket dodgeball in them!

I've still got some of my 45s. I'm missing those little plastic pieces that go in the center (what were those things called?) so I can't play them on my record player.

See, I'm one of those people that physically has to SEE my music. I don't think I could ever get into using an iPod & downloading songs. Just too strange for me.

They were called adapters, oddly enough. You can buy them here. The turntable that plugs into my computer that I got for Christmas came with one.

Mimeograph worksheets!

Oh my! I remember smelling our test papers before we wrote on them.

I graduated in 1972, and I remember that too. Not sure when mimeograph became a thing of the past.

How about The Waltons? Now there was a family!

memographs probably went out because of the popularity of Zerox!

You were a 70's kid if you remember:

Mork and Mindy
WKRP in Cincinnati
The Muppet Show
Sesame Street
The Electric Company
Roller Skates With Keys
Walkie Talkies
K-tel albums.
