I have been going through alot of my husbands papers in the last few days. These are not legal or financial papers. They are personal. Sermon notes. Research for a sermon, prayer lists, quotes, analagies(sp) etc.
I have all of his papers he wrote in Bible college. I have all of the letters of feedback from his profs. I have every review he has ever had. Letters of recommendation, Promotion, Thank yous, cards, *sigh*

How do you know what to save? I would have to read every page. Every card, every slip of paper. That could take weeks. I have no idea how to organize or store it all. I have waited this long because the task is so daunting. There are seriously boxes and boxes of his papers.

Please pray that I will know what to do with it all.

Nadine;

My husband wasn't quite the packrat that it sounds like yours was, but we were blessed early on after his death: a dear friend's father made us a wooden chest, about the size of a coffee table. As we began to clean out his stuff we put everything that was meaningful in there. It was nice not to have to make decisions...we just chucked it in the Daddy box.

His watch, bilfold, even a pair of his large shoes are in there (he had very large feet, and we used to tease him about them). His notes, photographs he took while in college, his Bible (I put it in there after I slept with it for over a year after he died...it started to come apart). Just myriads of stuff. I haven't ever gotten back in there to go through it all. I suppose someday I will. The kids can go to the Daddy chest and "remember" Daddy, though they don't.

It's something to think about.

We're all very well. We don't have a 'fall' break though. They don't have time off again until Thanksgiving. Works for me. And my mother.

I do have a 3 day weekend coming up though and the boys have school so they're staying at my mum's on Sunday night and she's taking them to school. I love it!!!

CS was a very prolific writer. Journals, poems, short stories, biographies, autobiographies, musings and even one-liners. There were books and books and shelves and shelves full of his writings. There were even boxes and boxes of his writings in the storage shed.

A couple of years ago, when I was packing up the house, I was faced with the same thing you are facing now.

It is a very daunting task, isn't it?

I will pray for Our Lord's Guidance and His Comfort for you while you go through your husband's papers.

John was very prolific writer too. He was not a packrat as far as things go. Just journals, papers, etc. I have numerous legal pads full of his writings.

Did you read it all? If you don't feel comfortable telling me here, you can PM me. It is so overwhelming. I have already decided to start a word file with his favorite quotes, for the girls. There are so many, and they speak to who he was.

Esther, the chest is a great idea for his personal effects. Right now I have them on some shelves in my closet, other than his bible, which I use. I have a very tiny box with our rings and his watch, but that is it. Have any of your children asked for some of his things? It is hard to know what will be important to them later on. For instance, He was a pilot, and he had a huge collection of miniture airplanes. They are all boxed up in the garage. I am leaning towards getting rid of them, but I am afraid of how my kids will react. They have seen them displayed in his office their whole lives. To them they are a huge part of him. eh, this is all just tooooo hard!!!!!

Ya'll are awesome though!!!!

As I go through John's papers, I may come across things I think may be worth sharing. Most of his stuff is singles or relationship related, since he was a singles pastor at one time. I found the following today:

Two little teardrops were floating down the river of life. One teardrop said to the other teardrop "Who are you?" "I am a teardrop from a girl who loved a man and lost him. Who are you?" She answered, "Well, I am a teardrop of the one who got him."

Hmm. Not sure what that is supposed to mean Dude.

It was just one of the many many many things I found in his singles files.

It did not seem that weird to me. Kinda true actually, of course not in all situations. It was not supposed to be reflection on my marriage.

'splain please.
