Fair enough. I'm not here to put down anyone's opinion, just to understand and share mine. Now I understand yours. My opinion is that the amount more which is asked of these who have been given much is between the person in question and God. Also, "given much" doesn't have to mean "given much notoriety".

ORIGINAL: SovereignIsHe I wonder if there is scripture for your view of this... I wasn't aware that considering partially covered pictures of a 15 girl inappropriate meant that one is lustful… I am still trying to even remotely consider what could be edifying for a 15 year old girl to have pictures of her partially covered in for all to see. I guess that goes back to the eye of the beholder, I do not see anything inappropriate in the photos, I see nothing sensual in the photos, I see nothing lustful in the photos; the girl and all appearing with her are fully covered everywhere that they shold be. Now evidently what you see is far different than what I see.. And when you write about it you use the term "Partially covered body" like her what what was hanging out, and it wasn't in the photos I have seen. I had a man apply for a youth directr position and he told me he would not take the girls swimming. When I ask why, he responded those girls, even with cover-ups made him to become lustful. Now who had the problem: the girls or the guy? And no I did not hire him, but did offer to help him with his list problem. Thanks RC edited for spelling

ORIGINAL: McFatty I'm simply responding to the claim that people are spending lots of energy shouting about what Miley Cyrus did because they are concerned about her. Who is spending lots of energy? Again, this isn't simply about Miley Cyrus, for that matter much of the thread is about the reaction to what she did... I am sure there are some people that don't want to talk about what she did, they rather looks elsewhere and create issues where they don't really exist becasuse they supported her actions in the first place and now she is saying it was a mistake... quote:
The problem with that is the people doing this aren't directing their comments toward her, so they're not helping her at all. How is that a problem? This a forum for talking about things... John

Sorry, but that term covers what is in the picture... She's not dressed, but partially covered... No mentions of anything hanging out... You are seeing lust in my words, so that means you must have the problem according to your way of thinking, right? I had a man apply for a youth directr position and he told me he would not take the girls swimming. When I ask why, he responded those girls, even with cover-ups made him to become lustful. Now who had the problem: the girls or the guy? And no I did not hire him, but did offer to help him with his list problem. Not the same... You can take the above and slap it over any situation where something is in question... John

The girl posted pics of herself in a bra and panties laying in her boyfriend's lap with his hands on her hip/thigh. He's not looking at her innocently either. Let's get real here.

Maybe this has something to do with this topic, maybe not, but in my mind it does. Genesis 9 NLT 20 After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and he planted a vineyard. 21 One day he drank some wine he had made, and he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw that his father was naked and went outside and told his brothers. 23 Then Shem and Japheth took a robe, held it over their shoulders, and backed into the tent to cover their father. As they did this, they looked the other way so they would not see him naked. OK, I am not saying Miley was drunk or anything like that. The point this makes to me is, when we "see nakedness" are we to go tell others about it, or are we to "cover the nakedness"? 1 Peter 4 NLT 8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Just my take on it folks.

What is edifying about the picture? Given that children are exploited sexually in the open and even worse behind closed doors what possible good is there from something like this? What are you defending? Of course... Using your logic, Miley and her family have lust issues given now they see it as something wrong, a mistake, no longer art like... Doesn't that also mean any woman that doesn't think the picture is appropriate not only has lust issues, but that of lusting after the same sex? John

Just my take on it folks. If those pics weren't taken and posted by her and her friends then nobody would have seen them. She posted them on a site with over 22,000,000 views. Most of whom are young girls. There are many pictures of her in various stages of undress and sensual poses. These are different from the VF poses. It is a topic that needs to be discussed in a way because unfortunately girls have been told a lie that it's okay to do this, that you can let down your guard and show yourself to the world without consequence. Miley Cyrus isn't the only one doing this type of thing. Love does cover a multitude of sins but love isn't just turning your head and pretending not to see someone go down a destructive path. Sometimes love must be tough and this is one of them. If it was my 15 y/o kid posing and posting those pictures online, she would have no picture phone, no digital camera and no access to a computer for quite a while.

"much is given" much what, according to scripture? "much is required" what is required, according to scripture?

Just because it is posted on the internet, or plastered on magazines does not mean we have to look for it. I choose to turn away.

I work with kids and sometimes you have to know what's going on in their world so you can honestly deal with their issues. Too many people stay naive then don't understand when problems arise. ETA: Miley Cyrus is not the only girl doing this sort of thing. How many parents honestly know what their kids are posting online?

If anyone thinks the inoculous photos of the girl were sexualizing or were "stirred" by those photos; I would suggest a long period of time on their knees in prayer to be delivered of lust. Of the photos I have seen none are offensive or at least should not be to a non-lustful person. I don't need de-caf, but a cup of the truth would be nice... John

One of the areas my work focuses on is my department's sexual molestation/child abuse/pedophile unit. We are the second largest county in the U.S. and because of what we do and whom we seek - we have to see things which, Lord knows, are literally the worst gore ever filmed by humans in the past and current century. The point of all this is that the pics taken were not done in a wholesome/innocent manner. They follow the pattern for what many around the world want - the lowering of the age of consent and the societal acceptance of adults being with teenagers/children.

I realize I'm jumping in well into the discussion but I ran across an interesting article in Slate (actually a book review) about the "Christian Pop Cultuer". The gist being that Christians have created a "parllel universe" of entertainment that copies the wider culture, leaving a censored version of the same. LINK
