well i got there last night at about 6:30 and almost didnt get a seat. i dont know how they pulled in a crowd that big in nashville.

the awards show was really good...great performances...i highly enjoyed it.

the award that left me scratching my head was album of the year...but after the response i heard from the crowd for the imperials and their performance (which wasnt sogo btw) i was fine with it. they seem like really nice guys.

i do have to say that i really respect sogospel for putting the part about the people who have passed away within the year in their program. that was very touching.

crossemark,

I was scratching my head as well and still am! I was very honored and amazed. We asked Deon Unthank "straight up" and he said that it was a dead lock "fan voted" tie. My thought is that I was honored "just to be mentioned" with all of these other groups! To win or "tie" was very cool!

I do wish more people new about the album and current Imperials and what we are really about.

I feel that "Back To The Roots" has been a real cool addition to The Imperials history!

By The Way-Sogosplenews, asked us to perform "Watergrave." We know that it is not SG. However we see SG crowds all over the nation go crazy for the song. In fact, it has always been one of my personal favs!

They didn't and they didn't have anyone to accept for the either. Some of the other winners were not there either. There were some to accept awards - Melissa Brady accepted Ronnie Booths award. Marty Funderburk accepted for Dianne Wilkinson - Guess one of the BIGGEST
Smiles on a winner would have to have been Gordon Mote - He had Parker, his 8 year old daughter and wife Kimberly with him. There were a lot of artist there that didn't win anything. Harper Agency & Beckie Simmons Agency was well represented there.

Mine too! You guys did a terrific remake of that classic.

I'd call it SGR...Southern Gospel Rock...a genre that has never been explored enough, IMO.

Want to give us more info????

DeeAnn - They had a special segment in the program I think it was called 'Remembering Our Friends' where they had pictures of all those in the SG industry on the screen who had passed away the past year. They do this every year and it's great part of the program.

youngartist -> RE: Sogospelnews Awards (5/1/2008 5:14:12 PM)

Were there artists there who didn't sing who accepted awards? (i.e. Did Ricky Free accept his Producer award?)

robertyork -> RE: Sogospelnews Awards (5/1/2008 5:44:59 PM)

Ricky Free wasn't there to accept the award.

Tracy, Libby and Joseph were there to accept their award.

Wayne Haun wasn't there to accept his award.

See post 27 for others that were accepted by people other than the winners.

G.I.MOM -> RE: Sogospelnews Awards (5/2/2008 12:33:12 PM)

The entire evening was great. We had to leave at 9 and missed the last 2 performances. The Freeman's are outstanding!!
The Imperials are in a genre all they're own. Jeff Pearles came on stage with tissues stuffed in his ears after the Imperials sang. Ian , Jeff and Sondra awesome as MC's.
Ian is in a genre all his own and he knows it!!!!

GO WATER GRAVE!!!
