I know their bass singer. He lives in IL, in a town not far from me. They are a nice bunch of guys, as well as talented singers and songwriters.

mtd -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/7/2008 1:54:28 PM)

I encourage you all to check out The Dills and Forgiven. Such nice people and with a wonderful collective heart for people.

bassment -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/7/2008 2:33:00 PM)

A group that I really like and they are very young is The Disciples Quartet. They are based out of Indiana. They perform with such energy and excitement! They will actually be performing with Called Out Quartet in July. I can't wait!

thetenor -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/7/2008 5:01:30 PM)

There has not been much said about Northern groups. If you love tight harmonies, and unusual chord's, then you need to listen to the Calvarymen Qt. They are from Flint, Mi. They have been singing for 50+ years. They are an exceptional Qt. You can hear them by going to thier web-site www.calvarymen.com, and then going to the myspace page at the bottom of the home-page. It is worth the visit.

Nias_Aunt -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/7/2008 5:44:48 PM)

Be listening for Calvary's Voice! I saw them last month, and was completely impressed--great sound, very professional, and super nice guys! Their website is www.calvarysvoice.org.

L5FanLady -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/7/2008 9:11:50 PM)

Nobody has mentioned the Thurstons! They are one of the Northern Groups, too. AND they have a LIVE BAND!! I heard them for the first time last summer and they are GOOD!! Here is their website:

How about High Valley they're from Canada that's a bit north 'eh?

MsJudy -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/7/2008 10:16:58 PM)

Okay, my news is out....Santa posted it in the Fan Fair thread!

threepartharmony -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/14/2008 5:23:50 PM)

Another good group is the Gibsons. www.thegibsonssing.com

SGEnthusiast -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/14/2008 5:31:09 PM)

Before I even knew what Southern Gospel music was, I grew up listening to a group called The Rories. I still love their sound and listening to their records.

One group that I think should be national but who don't seem to get a lot of national publicity is The Roy Knight Singers.

robertyork -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/14/2008 6:19:57 PM)

Don't hear much from the Roy Knight Singers anymore, are they still singing?

SGEnthusiast -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (5/14/2008 10:49:48 PM)

Yes, The Roy Knight Singers are still singing and I think just put out a new CD. I used to listen to them in the 1980s but had lost track of them until my sisters found their "Greener Pastures" CD a couple years ago and got it for me. Sandy's my favorite songwriter but I also really like her voice.

4PT_Harmony -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (6/3/2008 11:29:24 PM)

All You guys need to go check out one of my new favorite groups, Spoken 4....they just formed, I think...at the beginning of 07? They have some really genuine guys who really know and love the ONE they sing about, and they sound great Live![:)]...They are based out of the Branson, MO...And one of my musical heroes, Tommy Fairchild, came out of retiremet and is back vocally arranging and playing the piano for them. Have any of you seen or heard of them?...If you haven't yet, I think the time is coming when you will.

clout -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (6/5/2008 9:14:44 AM)

Back in the 50's through the 70's there were two groups that showed up in most of the concerts. I don't know if they are still traveling or not. Their names were "Many Others" and "Many More". Someone might know if they are still going. I don't know if they would fit the category of lesser known groups or not.

rkr27504 -> RE: lesser known groups part 2 (6/5/2008 9:34:31 AM)
