The environmental fascists and Algore Kool-Aid drinkers motto: "Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!"

Sounds sort of like the folks who believe human life begins at conception- and not perhaps at a later point in the pregnancy.

In all honesty, though, when I was in college, all of the published simulations indicated that global warming was happening. In particular were the Hadley GCMs- which predicted up to a 5 degree celcius rise in average global temperatures by 2100.

Of course, using the assumptions the Hadley model uses, it's highly likely we'll run out of oil for the 2%/year increases in CO2 production before we get to 2100. So we should conserve oil more for the fact that we're running out- rather than for the fact that burning oil causes global warming.

Btw, the "chicken littles" at the NOAA are very conservative about global warming these days. They take into consideration the arguments against global warming when they present their data. However, they still don't deny the reality of global warming.

Which means ther is NO concensus about global warming and there is a significant amount of the scientific community that do not agree with the alarmists. If "only a couple" of scientists disagreed they wouldn't have enough political clout to cause this tempering of the political agenda of the extreme environmentalists. Also, how many of those that believe the earth may be warming but it is a natural phenomenom attributable to the end of the little ice age?

Normally it's near 90 or above by this time of year warming up the gulf. I do know more about the issue, I just don't care to listen to the fear mongering. [;)]

Wrong. There is an affirmative concensus that there is global warming; the differences are in how its significance is interpreted.

quote:

Also, how many of those that believe the earth may be warming but it is a natural phenomenom attributable to the end of the little ice age?

Only a few on the fringe still hold to that. Most of the rest agree that the recent spike is not explanable strictly by natural phenomenon, and they are right.

Amen to that!!! Ever since Adam and Eve and the Tower of Babel humans have wanted to usurp God's power over the universe and make it our own. And we like "little gods" want to overstate our power. We can affect things but not to the extent tht others believe.

I keep hearing that THREE main items are considered "greenhouse gases": CO2, water vapor (gaseous H2O) and methane. The average atmoshpheric content of water vapor is 2-3% as opposed to 0.04% of CO2 and 0.00017% of methane (CH4). Maybe we should have a moratorium on swimming pools as well.

All those blasted humans spewing all noxious gas and all those trees consuming it; we have an unmitigated disaster of epic puportions on our hands: send albore to the rescue? Telll a lie often enough and people will believe it.

WRONG. We were command do to the following:

Gen 1:28 - 31 (ESV) 28And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Then why did Adam and Eve eat from the tree? Genesis 3:5 The serpent said to Eve. "No, God knows well that the moment you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know what is good and what is bad." They disobeyed God because they wanted to be like Him. Do we control the universe? No. Have we been given authority on earth by God? Yes. But even that authority is subservient to God's.

For all those questioning the cold spring, but yet claim to have such educated opinions on Climate Change, its obvious you've never studied 'La Nina', because if you had, you wouldn't be wondering why we are having such a cold spring.

If one wants to see about plundering the planet, visit the countries of the Eastern Block of Europe. You will see what socialism did to these countries.

No one wants to wreckless plunder the planet. Just use the recources in a way that will cause as little harm as possible. And what was one of the great ecological disasters of the 90s: and no, it wasn't the Exxon Valdez wreck" It was Mt. Saint Helen's eruption.

Where global warming is concerned, the greatest offenders are not in the Eastern Bloc; they are in South America and Africa where deforestation happens at a rapacious rate; Central America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia are catching up with them quickly.
The burning alone contributes about 25% of the excess CO2 in the atmosphere, and this does not factor in the loss of trees that no longer use up CO2.

Is this what Genesis 1:28 means by fill, subdue, and have dominion?

First of all, both happened in the '80s, not the '90s.
Second, yes it was the Exxon Valdez. The loss of life exceeded the Mt. St. Helens eruption by a long shot. Look at Mt. St. Helens today: is it a lifeless wasteland? No, it is recovering quickly and naturally.
Now, look at Prince William Sound: nearly 20 years later, the area is still a disaster, and lifeforms are still dying.

God also commands us to be stewards, to take care of HIS creation:

Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Psalm 24:1 The earth [is] the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

Why would you NOT want to take good care of what is the Lord's, ESPECIALLY when HE tells us to take care of what is HIS?

Peace and God bless,

I truly agree with your views on scripture on this matter. Is it not great, though we disagree greatly on some issues, we are like minded of stewardship and care of Gods creation[:)]I like you see it as a gift also. I do not think much about the global warming theroy though. My daughter Biology major does, but, I do not know if it is because she has been brainwashed, or believes in Global Warming. I respect your view on this, but, how far does aperson go? How far do you go in protecting the enviroment? I said before I recycle, which I felt conviction, most of my liberal friends do not even do that. I guess I hear much talk about the fear ( this is in no way directed at you) but, if people really believe this theroy, why do I hear more talk then action.

It's actually quite simple: we've got to get a grip on our avaricious consumerism. Why?
Because the greatest contribution to global warming, in my opinion and the opinions of several experts, is deforestation. Why does Africa, South America, and Asia do away with such vast amounts of forest every day? To make way for pasture and farm land in order to produce the things that you and I consume.
When I say "you and I," I mean Americans. We make up only about 5% - 6% of the world's population, yet we use up way more of the world's resources and energy per capita than any other nation, including China. We are the only nation in the world that actually refers to its citizenry as "consumers." I would think that this personal label would offend most Christians, but whether or not it does, it is appropriate.

quote:

Because the first step is to get the nay-sayers to pull their heads out their ostrich holes and get on the same page with reality. We all have to recognize the crisis before we can deal with it effectively.

No, if a person is so concerned about Global Warming, let me see action. That way the ( Nay Sayers), and I could tell they were not blowing smoke.

I personally don't care. The weather here has been whacked out for years, although they keep blaming it on El Nino. Regardless, I don't care. God takes care of me and He's in charge of the weather and I don't care.

Actually, I gave up my car and use CFLs. I give money to the Nature Conservancy, which is a relatively non-partisan group that helps out with land-use issues.

Most of us evil liberal environmentalists are at least making an effort. At the very least, unless a member of your family is pregnant, it makes perfect sense to use CFLs, install an aerating faucet, and turn the thermostat down to 65 in the winter. I think most people can make that small sacrifice, and if they do, we can reduce our household energy and water consumption by about 10%.
