Jennifer, I have prayed for the family. How very sad and difficult. I want to go and hold my precious 3-year-old right now.

Please pray for Vivi- she is three years old and in a coma after falling in a pool......and being without a pulse for 30 minutes.

Jennifer, I have held off posting about this because this happened in my own family to my little brother. All it takes is looking away for a few seconds and not seeing the little one falling in. That's all it takes. It can happen to the best, most vigilant families. I don't think there's a parent alive today that hasn't looked away for a few seconds, thank goodness most of us don't have tragedy happen in that timeframe.

When I read about Vivi's accident I started to shake (I pulled my dead brother out of the pool, he was revived by my father who saw me do it -- I was 11.) My dad had been a lifeguard and knew what to do. Praise God that we had a good outcome in that my brother is now in his early 30's and has a young son. My brother has major hearing loss from the accident as well as a chemical imbalance in his brain. I found out tonight that he is back in the hospital having just had another calcium infusion. It's not been an easy life for my brother but we still have him here and that means a lot to us.

I'm really sorry that Vivi's family didn't get their miracle. I was so hoping to hear that she was conscious and doing great. This brings me great personal sadness, and I will join the praying throngs.

God bless you, little Vivi. Thanks for your life here and how much you must have meant to all those who knew you and loved you. Rest safely with Jesus, little one.

Jeanie

Thank you all- the thing that really gets me is that it was her birthday and I just kept praying that she would give herself the best birthday present- hoping for a hand squeeze or an open eye, but instead she truly got the best present by seeing Jesus face to face and the best party ever as the angels rejoiced to have her home- I just did not realize that my prayer could be taken that way too... I am taking dinner over tonight for them and also the their extended family, so I need to get going.

Jeanie- I hope he is able to be back home soon- I had to pull my sister out at about the same age, but I was only a few steps behind her when it happened (she was having a fit b/c my parents made her get out and we were going home so she took off running for the pool and climbed up and jumped in- fortunately I was close enough that she just bobbed a few times- strong willed children

That is so sad

We have been spending a lot of time at the pool and now I am scared to go. Ella always wears a life vest and we have our hands on the baby at all times, but I would feel better if we could find a life vest for him too. Just in case something happened...Have y'all ever seen any little ones? The one we have for Ella is for 35-40 lbs.

how heartbreaking!

Another reason I'm glad I'm getting rid of the pool. Last time my friend was over, her son climbed the locked gate...I shudder to think what might have happened had we not seen him....

Jennifer - what a tragedy. I'm so sorry to hear this and so sorry for her family.

It's a reminder of how vigilant we have to be. I always worry, now that Akeelah has been in swimming lessons for a while, what she would do if she was around water without me right there. She gets in the pool all by herself and jumps in by herself now, but I'm always there. I'm worried how safe she feels around water without understanding that mummy always has to be there.

Laura - how old is the baby? When I take Akeelah to her swimming lessons they have put her in life jackets before, so I'm sure there are smaller ones for babies.

They sell bathing suits(literally a suit) that have built in flotation. Like THESE.

That is so sad. I am praying for her dear family. With my kids and our pool, the scariest times are when there is a crowd over. It is hard to keep your eye on everybody when people are constantly moving around; and sometimes people always think somebody else is watching the kids. For my little girl who could not swim but yet had no fear of the water, I bought her the Speedo bathing suits (off of ebay) that have the inflatable cushions in the front and the back. They are not as bulky as the foam ones (that they sell at Walmart). With the foam ones she couldn't play on the swings or in the backyard, but because these ones are slimmer - she keeps it on whenever she is in the backyard. I don't know how small they make them, though.

We use the "Ryanne Version" of Babylegs. I got some knee high socks from Target and cuffed them in knit. They work wonderfully!

I have some homemade baby legs too. My friend made them for me. If you can sew even a bit, you can make your own for a fraction of the cost of buying them

Those Baby Legs look cool. Looks like you can make your summer clothes last longer, like a little girl can wear them with a skirt. We don't buy Timmy long sleeved shirts anymore. We get him all short sleeved, and then in the winter he wears a cheap long sleeved thermal shirt underneath.

We have two pairs of baby legs and I think they are adorable!! My mil bought them for her,we don't use them all that often. Mary has lots of cute tights though so she normally wears those. I usually use them under a skirt when it is too warm for tights. We might get more use out of them this fall.

Oh, I bought some jersey knit/interlock knit and made cuffs for them. It's the same type of fabric that like the cuffs on a long sleeve t-shirt are made from. They are super handy with cloth diapers, makes changes much easier.

ryanne, ever thought of just becoming my personal seamstress??

j/k.

I'm torn on the baby legs. I found a great deal online for a few pair and am tempted and I know she'd get use out of them this winter here and in texas over the holidays but I'm not sold on them yet.

And I'd need a job to afford all the shopping/altering!!!

Baby clothes.. do I buy according to season she will be in during that size? I mean.. what If she gets HUGE and doesn't fit and we have all this winter stuff in the fall when its not cold enough???

AND if we are going to Texas at Christmas.. it will be just above freezing at night and 40s or 50's during day.. can she survive in a few layers and a hoodie and blanket??? I Dont want to buy her a winter jacket per se but I would if needed.
