Thanks To Calvary - sung by George Younce

"...don't be afraid, because you've got a brand new daddy now..."

I cried listening to it just now.

It isn't gospel, but Run For the Roses gives me chill bumps when they play it around Kentucky time.

Since Kerr has brought up the subject of horse songs, and in light of what happed to Eight Belles. I remember the song about Ruffian, a filly that broke down in a match race with Riva Ridge in 1973. That one made me emotional.

Kerrlaw -> RE: Chill Bump songs (5/21/2008 1:49:44 PM)

The Dove, by the Hoppers still gives me chill bumps every time I hear it.

Especially when they sing:

[sm=icon_smile_sing.gif]They may not believe us, but when John baptized Jesus...[sm=note.gif]

That line in the song gets me everytime I hear it. This song should really be a single to radio.

When I was a boy, my parents and I were fortunate enough to be in the audience at Mt. Vernon, IL when the Kingsmen recorded one of their classic live albums. The highlight of the evening was Jim Hamill singing Love Lifted Me. Of course that recording became one of the great classics of SG. One of the most vivid memories of my childhood is being in the middle of that audience while they sang the chorus and Big Jim told the rest of the group to just "let 'em sing, boys!" Then when Ernie Phillips hit that soaring ending, the roof almost came off that old auditorium. I have the song on CD and every time I play it the hairs on my arms and neck still stand at attention. And every time I hear it...I miss Jim Hamill something awful.

That's so neat that you got to be there for that taping! I love listening to that project.

Speaking of chill bump songs, Mark Trammell has started singing the song, and Ernie's son Eric does the same high ending. Have you seen that yet? Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPp_vy8eIAg

Seaton -> RE: Chill Bump songs (5/21/2008 3:02:40 PM)

I agree. If there is one Southern Gospel live album I would've loved to been in attendance for, Live...Naturally would be the one. From "Beautiful Home" to "He Knows What I Need" to "Excuses" to "Nearing The Shore" to "When My Feet Touch The Streets Of Gold" to "Love Lifted Me". Wow!!

becca_lynn -> RE: Chill Bump songs (5/21/2008 5:28:14 PM)

Vestal Goodman and the Happy Goodmans - Child of the King (old Caanan label record from the '60s that my parents had - want to get it burned to CD sooo bad!)
Kenny Hinson - Call Me Gone
The Kingsman - The Glory Road
The Inspirations - Swing Wide the Gates
Where Could I Go and The Love of God - by just about anybody

kaelen7 -> RE: Chill Bump songs (5/22/2008 9:04:29 AM)

I know it's a "new" song, but I recently saw the Perrys in concert...Holy Shore will get the tingles going, too.

Jeff2006 -> RE: Chill Bump songs (5/22/2008 11:15:28 PM)

For me it is

Medals, Crowns & Trophies - The Nelons

Alleliua to the Lamb - THe Nelons

For God So Loved - Brian Free

WHen Jesus Passes By - Karen Peck

Here Comes Jesus - Nelons

1970rodney -> RE: Chill Bump songs (5/22/2008 11:18:09 PM)

Just heard one about an hour ago "Let Freedom Ring" By the Gaither Vocal Band. David Phelps is just unbleivalble.

RogerBennett_Fan -> RE: Chill Bump songs (6/3/2008 4:19:22 PM)

I get the chills whenever I hear these songs:

Finished Indeed - Kingsmen

You're Not Alone - Spoken 4

Whispers In The Night - Legacy Five

MaestroSC -> RE: Chill Bump songs (6/10/2008 2:24:38 PM)

Under His Wings - Ruppes
I Rest my Case at the Cross - Perry's?

rogasinger4Him -> RE: Chill Bump songs (6/10/2008 11:39:16 PM)

Holy Ground- Any Good Version
In The Midst Of It All- Speers
Oh What A Moment- Squire Parsons
One Holy Lamb - Poet Voices
I Can Pray - Dove Brothers
There Is A God - Roarks

I could probably make a list of close to a hundred songs if I thought about it for a while.

Lots of Southern Gospel songs touch me deeply

Nutt -> RE: Chill Bump songs (6/12/2008 1:52:23 PM)

Hold On
But God
He's Always There
If I Go or If I Stay
All of these songs were written by Matt Miller of the Wallace Family from Emory, Texas. Of course they have plenty of upbeat toe-tapping ones too! Just visit their website: www.thewallacefamily.biz They are getting lots of airplay right now. Check them out.

Dagwat -> RE: Chill Bump songs (6/28/2008 8:48:02 AM)

Oh wow, there are so many! One that gets to me is not southern gospel, but a song by Wayne Watson, entitled "Would I know you". "The Midnight Cry" by the Old Gold City bunch, "I bowed on my knees and cried Holy" by anyone good, another non-southern gospel song is "When I Get Where I'm Going" sang by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton. "THANK GOD I MADE IT".....wow. Rusty Goodman wrote a great song and sang it many years ago called "Small Lonely Hill" that really gets to me too. "Point of No Return" by the Goodmans also.

Wow, I'd have to give this thread some serious thought. There an endless list of great songs. Definitely "I STAND REDEEMED" by Legacy Five, with Josh Cobb singing the tenor. By the way........ Whatever happened to him? Anyone know?

Dagwat -> RE: Chill Bump songs (6/28/2008 8:55:46 AM)

oh yeah....... "HE SAW IT ALL" by the Booth Brothers. And hearing Danny Funderburk sing "Somebody Touched Me" and "I Just Started Living".

Ok, I quit, or I'll be on this all day.

TQ_Fan_4_Life -> RE: Chill Bump songs (6/28/2008 9:12:16 PM)
