Angie - Yes my MW is concerned with my BP as it is technically considered "high" when the bottom number is over 90. The main concern is that is could go from just high BP is Preeclampsia. Thankfully though my BP just started creeping up at 37 weeks and so it's not likely to turn into Pre-E as I'm not really having any other symptoms yet. My MW just wants to make sure we cover all the bases just in case things are actually worse off than we think.

Speaking of ultrasounds we only ever did the one at 18 weeks and the tech we had was amazing! She did all her measurements and what not first and gave us a commentary of what she was seeing and then afterwards showed the screen to me and pointed out all body parts and what not. We had the option I think of printing a couple photos for free or buying the CD of all the shots for $20, we went with the CD.

((((Jennifer)))-I hope today is better for you. That stinks. That really stinks. At my US I got a couple of ok-ish pictures. The tech was a student and it was terrible. I had no idea what I was looking at the whole time because I couldn't see and she wouldn't explain anything. I really surprised myself with how upset and disappointed I was over the whole situation. So I empathize.

Scarlett- Praying for you today! Keep us posted!!!

I have my next appointment today. This 2x/week thing gets old pretty fast! We'll see how much weight I've gained since Tuesday. Maybe I've lost some? I'm kind of amused with the whole weight gain situation...curious to see what the lucky number will be by the time I actually have this baby!

yeah they wouldn't give us one with Justice....cause "the dr's orders don't state that we were to give you a copy"....uuugggghhhhhh. He's the only one we don't have an u/s pic of.

Cretins!

LOL.....what are "cretins".....lol.....never heard that one before!!

I asked my MW how the induction would go and she said they would put in one of those cervix gels and then wait for 12 hours and then if that didn't starts things they would put in another and wait another 12 hours. She then said we could decide what to do from there whether is would be breaking my water or starting on the oxytocin.

I was induced 3 our of 5 times....with this last one they used the cervical ripening stuff, and it worked great. My labor until now has always been 8-10 hours (except #1 was 25 hours)...but this time it was barely 4 hours because the cervical ripening stuff worked so well!!!!
Do you know which kind they want to use?

At what point is BP considered high?

typically most dr's start really getting antsy when it gets up tp 140/80 consistently (at rest)

Sarah, I'm not exactly sure what a cretin is, or even if I'm spelling it right. I always thought it an annoying bug of some kind.

Well, I thought of another girl's name I like, Helen, but I can't use that one either. My MIL's name is the Old French version of Helen, and I just can't name my daughter after my MIL. I mean, MIL is a good lady, but... no, it won't happen.

I find myself really hoping that this baby is a boy, a brother for Nathan to play with. If she's a girl, then she's already causing me trouble! We picked out a boy name with no trouble, Joshua Charles. It's nice don't you think?

Erin- Oh MY GOODNESS! When I saw that picture, my first thought was "Why did Jae change the picture to one of him having stuff on his face???" I had to look closer and realize it was Isaac with his oxygen, not Jadon with randome white on his face! He has gotten sooooo big! (Jae, I hope you don't find offense, I just thought it was Jadon at first glance and couldn't figure out why you would change from the cute one you have now to that one I love food all over the face pics, but that didn't make sense either since he looked like he was in a crib... Oh what preggy brains can conjure...

This morning I had to call my husband because I was becoming increasingly furious with him for making a very rude comment about the state of our house while I am working tirelessly to improve, declutter, and resettle after being gone a week... As it turns out, he was rude in a very realistic dream, not reality, so I let him off the hook! He asked that I go easy on him in my dreams since he gets in enough trouble on his own- boy am I glad I asked if it really happened or not!

I'm a little better today, still upset about how everything went down yesterday, but it is what it is. They did tell me the sex, but I don't know if we are going to share that or not- especially since I just don't feel right about what they said...

For those in both threads, really, really going to stuff the peppers now...

I love Joshua Charles. Nice strong manly name.

We had more trouble picking out a girl name. First we had one we agreed on. Then we had another one we agreed on and liked a little better. Then we went back to the first one. Now dh's brother and cousin have had little girls in the last 2 months with the same middle name. I love the name and the sound of it with the middle name...but don't want our poor baby to be the third one in 2 1/2 months with the same middle name. Like we couldn't think of anything more original....argh. So I have a couple of other options. I'm trying to say them in my head a lot to get used to them, because I still like the first one best.

Baby's HB was still irregularly ticking away today. At least today I was able to poke and prod and get accelerations so we could be done. Usually baby just sleeps or ignores any attempts to get heartrate accelerations. And, I'm still up about 43 lbs. The doctor looked at the scale and said "Well, we'll just say you're about the same." Even though I think I was up 1 or 2 from Tuesday!

On inductions... I did not get the cervadil b/c if something happened (I was at risk for hemorrhage), it could not be stopped v. Pit which can be turned off immediately. I started at about 2.5 cm on my own, then they started the Pit- one thing about that is, if it gets too intense, and you are really hoping to avoid epis, you can refuse the next increase, ask them to turn it down, or even ask for it to be turned off. In my case, they very slowly increased it at half the normal speed. As long as you are having working contractions and are progressing reasonably, there is no reason to keep upping it and being in pain (assuming the baby and you are both tolerating things well). Also, after your water breaks/is broken, your body may well take over completely (my doctor actually came RUNNING back into my room yelling "turn it down, turn it down" less than 5-10 minutes after breaking my water b/c the contractions were registering off the charts (they can monitor from the doctor's lounge)- at that point, they completely shut it off, and I was pain free for another hour or so before things got intense, but with back rubs and foot rubs, I was able to make it through. The best thing to do is RELAX, RELAX, RELAX- being tense during a contraction is WAY more painful than being relaxed! Did that help, or leave you with more questions?

I was told if the cervadil was too much to me, they would remove it. Maybe not as immediate as turning off the pit, but it can still be stopped.

That was my experience too.

And this was not.

One of these days, I'll type up the whole birth story...

a good tip is, relax your jaw...when it is relaxed your body is naturally more relaxed.

Haha. How funny. Actually...its not oxygen but just his feeding tube! So proud of my little man. Hoping to break 4lbs in weight tonight!!!

PL - I didn't know there was different types of ripening gels! I didn't ask my MW but will do so the next time I see her. Are some better than others?

Jenn - Thank you for that info, it does help me immensely! I'm actually beginning to feel better about the whole situation even if I do have to be induced. I know my MW will stand up for me on behalf of the doctors and nurses and only do what's considered necessary and nothing more.

Ok, so here's the latest on my situation. Yesterday my MW called and said my blood work came back normal but my urine had more than acceptable amounts of protein in it so I've been put on a 24 hour urine collection duty. I can't tell you how much fun it is to pee into this white flask and then empty it into this bright orange container. I swear it's nearly full and I still have 3.5 hours of peeing to go, may have to supplement with one of my own containers at home . My MW then stopped by in the afternoon just to take my BP and it was marginally better at 128/84 so I guess I'm really still just on a "wait and see" approach. I do however have a biophysical appointment this morning at 11:00 to check on the fluid levels and to see if the babe is getting enough blood and oxygen through the cord. I will update you all on how that goes when I get home.
I actually honestly feel that everything is ok, I mean I feel the baby move lots and I'm not experiencing any other Pre-E signs so I'm mostly just trying to stay calm and relaxed (also realizing of course that feeling "panic" isn't going to help my BP at all).

Thanks for all your encouragement and prayers ladies!

PJ - Congrats on the weight gain ! I'm up to 40+ pounds as well - wooohooo !

It's more like totally refuse one, only accept the other one. I can't remember the names - but I know the ladies here will tell you!

yes, some are "better"...IMO. I personally would stay away from Cytotec...according to the manufacturer.....(sorry it's all caps, but I am not retyping what the web site says)
WARNINGS

CYTOTEC (MISOPROSTOL) ADMINISTRATION TO WOMEN WHO ARE PREGNANT CAN CAUSE ABORTION, PREMATURE BIRTH, OR BIRTH DEFECTS. UTERINE RUPTURE HAS BEEN REPORTED WHEN CYTOTEC WAS ADMINISTERED IN PREGNANT WOMEN TO INDUCE LABOR OR TO INDUCE ABORTION BEYOND THE EIGHTH WEEK OF PREGNANCY (see also PRECAUTIONS and LABOR AND DELIVERY). CYTOTEC SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN BY PREGNANT WOMEN TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ULCERS INDUCED BY NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs) (see CONTRAINDICATIONS, WARNINGS, and PRECAUTIONS).

PATIENTS MUST BE ADVISED OF THE ABORTIFACIENT PROPERTY AND WARNED NOT TO GIVE THE DRUG TO OTHERS.

For my last labor they used Cervadil.....and it worked great for me.

Cervadil is what is most commonly used here. I have a friend whose mother is a nurse for the OB/GYN floor of a major hospital in a big city. She said the only time they have used Cytotec has been when the baby is deceased and they don't even really use it then. The reason is it can cause convulsive contractions, causing trauma to the baby!

My OB uses Cytotec and when I found out (very near my due date), she and I had a discussion where I told her I did NOT want Cytotec. I LOVE my OB and was even willing to change doctors at that point (if she didn't go with what I said). She said she was more comfortable with it than Cervadil. When I asked about the differences, she even admitted that if something went wrong with Cytotec, they would have to administer another drug to counteract it! With Cervadil, they could just remove the strip and it would stop. Thankfully she was agreeable to using Cervadil if anything was needed. Even more thankfully, I didn't need either since my water broke.

I had another great appt today. BP was fine, urine fine, baby's heartrate is good, he's probably 8ish pounds, he is in a good position for labor and the biggie, he dropped!! Which explains why I feel so much pressure constantly down there. She told me that when the baby drops and puts pressure on the cervix that releases hormones that start to get things going. That explains why for the past couple of days I've felt crampy, yucky. Yesterday I was in the bathroom so much between the loose bowels and peeing all the time! I remember before Nadia was born I felt yucky too. I have a constant crampy backache. I'm not saying I'll go in the next days or so, but things are defintely moving along. Next friday I'll have her check me, Andrew is going to be leaving friday night for a saturday conference that is 2 hours away and if I am majorly dilated he won't go. So I still have no idea if I'm dilated or not, but really, that doesn't mean anything anyway. I was at a 2 for most of my last month. She told me that I probably was just because this is my second.

So I'll just continue bouncing away on my ball and doing anything else that might help him come!
