gee...after talking about my DL being in the deep depths of my wallet and never being used, I wonder when it expires (I know it's my birthday, but I wonder what year)....hmmm....probably ought to check that....lol

Merv found out his was expired when he applied for a FOID card this year. They sent a letter back about missing information, and he thought I'd filled the form out wrong. I read the letter more carefully and it said one reason for the letter could be an expired driver's license. Sure enough, his was a couple of months past due. Good thing he found out that way instead of during a traffic stop.

I tried to use my DL as ID at the bank. They said they couldn't use it because it was expired. By 6mos! ACK!!!!!!!!! The very next day I got it renewed! I had simply forgotten.

Sue - ain't that the truth! I know have a teenager & a 10 year old - I swear that just a blink of my eyes ago they were in diapers!

Well, we're about to get one OUT of braces, but of course he'll have a retainer! Dd will need them too (unfortunately they both got my teeth & not dh's straight teeth)!! We really like our orthodontist! He's also their dentist! He only does kids & teens. The way he works it is to bill the insurance 1/2 & us 1/2 so that we don't end up with bigger bills after the insurance cap is reached! So far, the most we've paid is $75 per month. I wish there was a way to get dd finished before we leave here (and before dh retires), but she's only 10 so I don't think that will happen.

SO Glad to hear Ellie is doing well!! I'm still praying!

quote:

In the military EVERYTHING revolves around that little Mil ID.
SO True, Sarah!! We gotta go get dd's soon, the pediatric clinic will pitch a fit if she needs to be seen & doesn't have her ID yet! Once, I forgot ds's & they told me I had so many days to bring it in & prove he had it or they would report it to my dh's squadron & we'd have to pay for the visit!! Now, I carry it in my wallet with my own - guess I'll have 2 to carry now!

My Driver's License expires this year (I think - better check mine too) & dh's next year - on our birhtdays. We have OH DL's so we'll have to get them renewed when we go home this summer. YEP - just checked it expires in September. Guess that settles it - we'll be going to OH this summer!!

Gotta go get some things done around here! We're taking the day off of school since Grandma & Grandpa are here!

yeah ours are TX so we need to get them renewed when we go to TX next year sometime.....maybe for Christmas or whatever. Otherwise we will just have to make a special trip down to renew them. I really wish it were easier to renew over the internet or something...and TX does make it pretty easy...but after so many years they want you to get a new pic. Paul thinks his is several years away...maybe 2012 or so.....yeah he checked...2012. So mine is the next to be renewed...by sept of next year.
Right now we are having trouble with getting our van reregistered for the year. It is registered in TX (our legal residence) so we have to deal with them through the mail. They sent it back the first time because supposedly our insurance didn't cover as much as they require...well, actually our insurance covers MORE then they require!!!! So we sent it back in after proving that to them and them talking to our insurance. Then they sent it back again saying that it expired...well DUH of course it expired because THEY sent it back to us!!!! So then they wanted more money for that....they finally said they would not charge us extra because it was their mistake, but we had to go get a signed notarized affidavit saying we haven't had any citations on it while it is expired. SHEESH!!! It is insane!!! After we finally get that done with it then we need to drive down to TX (Wichita Falls is about 30-45 minutes drive) and get it inspected because that has run out too because of this whole mess with the registration. INSANITY!!!!! I am just glad hubby isn't driving a lot right now.

How can your legal residence be Texas if you own a home in OK? Just wondering...I'm sure it's a military thing, but I know Sandy's vehicle has a NY plate on it now.

our legal residence for voting purposes is Orange TX (actually it's my moms address there). When we vote it is for that area. If we wanted to we could switch it to here, but that would be too hard when we move again...so we have just chosen to leave it as my moms residence. In fact most people don't even know that they may live in a house that a former military resident might be claiming as their "legal residence". It's just something we military can do. I don't know exactly how it is possible...or what laws allow it...but I know we can. our insurance company does our car insurance and our home insurance...and they have no problem with it all....it's no big deal to them (of course we go specifically with a company that caters to military so they understand all that stuff).

When you're in the military, you can be a legal resident of your home of record. Usually where you lived when you entered the military - although, you can pick another state. We pay OH taxes, have our cars registered in OH. our driver's licenses are from there and we vote in Ohio too (absentee ballots most of the time, since we aren't there). It makes it easier to not have to change residency every time we move!

So maybe it was just easier for Sandy and Justin to go ahead and switch to NY plates and registration?

Do you not have a DL for the current state you are in? Do you not have to because of the military?

It's just something we military can do.

That answers my above question.

you can if you want to, I just find it easier to not have to switch legal residences every few years because of moving.

yeah we live in OK...but our residence is in TX....so like Amy said, we vote for TX, file taxes for TX, have DL and vehicles registered in TX....but we live in OK. We never changed it when we moved here...while we were in Germany we were required to keep our TX residency because of international laws...we couldn't claim residency for Germany

Thanks for the update, Davy. Give Lisa a hug for me and tell her to behave herself.

I am getting very frustrated with people who call about their child, don't answer when we call them back, and then get ticked off at us for not talking to them. Sometimes I wish I had a remote control something or other that would smack them upside the head and get their attention.

That would come in handy for political calls, sales calls...........If you could get something like that invented, you could retire a wealthy woman. Maybe something like an electrical shock that could transmit over the phone lines.

We owned a home in Northern VA from 1997-2004 and never claimed VA as our Home of Record. Though i did go ahead and get my D.L. there after we'd been there over 2 years. Jerry always kept his in NC and when we came back to NC my NC DL had not expired so they just renewed it for me.

Cindy, there was at least ONE mom who called you multiple times over a four-hour period last night and couldn't get through because some of your kids were on the phone/net all that time!

Here's the scoop: I am home, hopefully sick. Why hopefully? Becuase if this isn't a virus, then I am allergic to my new job

On Wendesday morning I had a dizzy spell. Wednesday night I was exhausted and had a really bad dizzy spell and was very sick to my stomach. Yesterday they sent me home at noon after an hour of dizziness/nausea. I am running a slight temp (2 degrees, sometimes less, over my normal), still a bit queasy, none of that vertigo this morning, though, BUT basically I have been laying around or sitting still since I got home yesterday.

If I am allergic, they will have to fire me. Which is nuts...because if I can just stay out of the lab, I think I will be fine.

Some info, since some of you are misconcepted, lol. It isn't a haying company. They don't own any fields. They buy hay and they sell it, generally to folks along the Pacific Rim. The company is actually Japan-owned. So what we have there is an office with a truck scale and a lab, which is basically sealed. In the lab they have machines that test moisture content, protein, and PSI. They keep cubes (which are the size of butter sticks) and fines (looks like tea or pot, lol) from each 'batch' of hay for 3 months. My job on Tuesday included emptying the past-due cubes and yesterday morning they had me organizing cubes that had not expired yet. Most of my work, however, is paperwork. The office building is surrounded by hay, as well..in sheds, under giant tarps, etc. All the hay is between my window and the river, too, where we also have a dock, barge, etc.

My internet is back I threatened to cancel my account if they did not give a supportive, english-speaking support person. I got a nice grandfatherly sort who ought to be a kindy teacher, 'now, click the button with your mouse pointer...' lol. But he got me all fixed up.

The boys are angry that I am home today...apparently they had plans.

Well, our old neighbor had told them she'd like them over today but since I was home I said that maybe they should stay home-Brandon has hit a hurdle in his math and needs my hands-on help, and he will be gone at a spin-in all day tomorrow, and I will be back to work monday, I hope. So he was mad that he might not get to go, and then I called the friend and she didn't answer and he was mad that I only called her house phone and not her cell phone...of course, when he tried her cell it was disconnected, but apparently that doesn't take away from my evil momness

Jen, that is a bit odd, since I have call waiting and the internet does not go through my phone line. I was at work last night anyway. Did I not give you my work number?

I can't say for sure if you're sick or allergic. The only way to tell is to wait for your symptoms to clear up, then go back to work. If your symptoms return, you're allergic. Make sure you are getting plenty of fluids. If your symptoms return at work, try some Zyrtec - I know it's a little pricey, but it's the best otc allergy med out there. You can get generics now which helps a bit with the cost.
