Ellie, how are you feeling? I prayed for you and your surgery while I was gone.

His, other than swimsuit elastic, I am at a loss, I am sorry.

Brandon is still having math troubles. He looks at 2 - x = 5 and wants to add a two to both sides. I asked him why and he said 'because you are subtracting, so you have to do the opposite'. I canNOT get him to understand that the minus has nothing to do with the 2!!!

And the WORST part is that his little brother always knows the answers And shouts them from across the room.

I would write more, but I have to go to the grocery store before work. I love you all, miss spending part of my days with you, and hope you have a lovely one today!

ROFLOL! I WAS drinking coffee when I read that.

II got to get my small bandage off Monday. It looks awful to me, but I feel much better. I can't wait until it doesn't look like a second smile (which Rebekah also noticed this morning). Last night was the first night that I slept the whole night through without pain meds. or being sick to my stomach. I am probably going change endos to get one that will talk to me more. I am also getting an oncologist. I only can be going for a half day at a time and then I am too tired and sore.

I think you should write a book about Jack. Ezri could do the pictures.

Last year we dug out our daylilies and I was sure the tubers had all rotted in the plastic bag I stupidly stored them in. Yesterday, when I was about to throw them away, I noticed that some of them had sprouted! This variety is called Prairie Blue Eyes. The flower is purple with a yellow center, and will fit right in with the other things we planted. Don't ask me why it's called Prairie Blue Eyes. Maybe the inventor was colorblind. There was some mold on the tubers, but I planted them anyway and will just hope for the best.

If the problems are using simple numbers like the ones in the example here, you can use beans and an upside down cup to show the problem which might help.

00 - (_) = 00000

It might make it easier for him to see what is going on.

Also does he understand that x =1*x and that -x = -1*x? That might also help him.

another thing that might help is to have him put + signs in front of the positive number and change the - into a + -: example
+2 + -X=+5

Donna--Why aren't you wanting to plant them this year? I'd probably go ahead and plant them this year, then move to where ever next year. Leaving something in the fridge for a year just sounds kinda gross to me.

Um...I don't really know. I'm feeling very unsettled lately, and know strawberry plants need a couple years to produce. I don't want to plant them and then end up leaving them. Silly, I know. Plus, I don't know where I want to plant them here. I have an unused bed by the road, but I'm not sure they'd do well there...all my flowers died last year. And I don't think I want them in the regular garden...I'm just so indecisive.

quote:

Rebekah wants to grow strawberries, but I couldn't find any seeds, maybe it is because you have to get bulbs. huh.

Hmmm...maybe YOU should plant my strawberries.

We had one hermit crab escape once. I told the kids if I found it on the floor again, I was going to step on it. I was not kidding. So gross...I did not like those things. And they would wait until everyone else was in bed and then start scritchy-scratching around in the tank and climbing up the sides. They seriously gave me nightmares.

They sound like fun pets to me, but maybe I'd feel differently if it was my house they were escaping into. Merv says no more pets. When Queenie gets old and is gone we'll be petless. I understand. He wants to be free to go on mission trips, and he isn't a pet person. Maybe I'll have to start a second career as a pet sitter to get my critter fix.

Donna, plant them in a strawberry pot! Then you can take them wherever you go A lot of strawberry plants have to go a year without berries before they give (you are supposed to pluck the blooms) so you may want to get them in the ground this year to give yourself a head start.

Thank you, ladies, for the above suggestions. I will use them both. I will also, I think, teach him to begin at zero...and maybe use some poker chips...sigh. I really don't understand why he does not 'get' this. I don't think I ever had a student that I tutored who had this particular block.

So just any old pot will work? And then do I leave them outside all year, like I would if they were in the ground?

I'm driving my husband nuts with the unsettled feeling, but I just can't shake it.

Well, they have special pots for strawberries that are space-saving--they look like a giant pitcher that 10 people can all drink out of at once, lol. But you can put them in any pot, and yes, leave them out all year long.

Ah...I already have a bunch of small pots with nothing in them. Sounds like a good project for us while Sandy's kids are here today and tomorrow.

A little background before I tell my story:

Last year ds (my youngest, now 7) was so into his science book that he had read the whole thing by CHristmas so for his bday I suggested to my mom that she get him a subscription to Ranger Rick. He loved it.
Also, he is my night owl and the last one asleep of the 3 kids. He can't sleep till he knows I'm up safe in bed.

Anyway, last night when I went up he was so excited and proud of himself. He had sat there and very carefully cut out all the pictures of frogs (dd1's favorite animal) and snuck down to her room and left them on her bedside table for a surprise. He didn't just cut out the whole picture but carefully cut around the shape of the frogs. Then this AM DD2 told me that he left her a penguin picture too. When those 2 particular issues came the girls had asked if they could have the ones with their favorite animals and he said no. However, last night he decided to cut out all the pictures for them. Guess he's back to being an angelic boy.

The kids had their guinea pig funeral yesterday while I was at work. DD1 didn't go and DD2 cried. DS didn't have much response at all.

Glad I could make you smile.

So, I can be praying now for continued recovery, rest, quiet afternoons and a short and successful new doctor search? Will get right on it!

Jen, here's how I explained negative numbers to my kids, and they got it (I think!):

+ is a winning lotto ticket, - is a poisonous snake, so . . .
if you get (+) the ticket (+), that's a good thing (+)
if you get (+) the snake (-), that's a bad thing (-)
if you lose (-) the ticket (+), that's a bad thing (-)
if you lose (-) the snake (-), that's a good thing (+)

I also used money - if you owe Ashley 8 bucks (-8) and you pay her 5 bucks (+5), you are still 3 bucks in the hole (-3). That seemed to work well for a couple of my kids.

This is great! However, I just explained this to my son, and he was disgusted that anyone would think that losing the snake is a bad thing, even if the snake is poisonous! Boys!!

My blessing has had a rash on her face that cleared up, then got worse, and is both healing and spreading . Also has a rash on her fingers. Went to the dr. today-poor thing has eczema on her face. One of the things we specifically prayed for her not to get.

She is 45 lbs. I almost asked them to check again, because she is heavy-she's not fat but she has been a solid child, even when a baby. I told dh how much she weighed, and he was surprised too-he thought it was more than that!

And she is 3'9"! Almost 4 feet already! Wow!

EZ,
Loved the pics. I think my favorite senior shot of Trill is the one where she is looking down. And what you did with Sarah's picture of her Dad-awesome!

And Sarah, in the second picture of you with your Dad, you're holding a trophy. What was it for? Bible quiz, perhaps?

I know Shadowspring-I get it too-mostly on my hands. She has a bit of it there too, but her face was pretty bad at one point.

And having eczema can sometimes lead to asthma....no sign of that yet for either of us. And of course everyone had to comment on her face and how bad it was-as if we didn't know there was a problem .

narnia...there are some that have seemed to find a connection between eczema and not being tolerable to milk proteins...so does she eat a lot of dairy?

I didn't know that about the milk proteins! Mine shows up in times of stress only.

And it can even be good stress, like a happy move or a new job for dh. I get it on my face too. Luckily it is rare enough that a topical steroid cream takes care of it without worrying about side effects.

Now my ear itches!

I was going to suggest a milk allergy, too. Ds2 had eczema very bad as a newborn. We're talking red, oozy patches on his face. Le Lache League suggested I stop drinking milk, and ds2's face did clear up.
