Then dh remembered that he said he would bring brats to our small group party on Wed. night

My kids have impeccable timing ... they all decided to smack each other right where I ended that quote ... so you are welcome to take my oldest three on Wednesday night!!!

(And yes I did finish reading to see you were talking about sausage .... but oh the timing!!!!)

Zoebob, I don't suppose you drive an older model town and country/caravan/voyager? When my door won't shut, I go the back end and find the latch mechanism and make sure the plastic casing is not off-kilter and thus preventing latch.

Yes that is what I drive. A 97 caravan. That is exactly what happened. The latch was stuck in the lock position because the plastic that lines the latch was coming off and had gotten jammed so the latch wouldn't go into the right position

I spent the majority of yesterday at a funeral - one of dh's friends from his growin' up days who had a heart attack at 57. I had met the man once but didn't really know him. However, a pastor friend of ours did the service so I was able to catch up with him and his wife, and I did know several people who were there. Then we went to my MIL's and spent a couple hours with her before we came home. Since the funeral was right down the street from her house, it would have been a bit tacky not to stop. That's ok, I love my MIL.

I do not love my MIL's dogs. OK, I like one of them. She has 4 rat terriers (sorry Amy) who are the most annoying things. The one I like does not yap and he also likes me, so he will come to me to have his back scratched. Part of the problem is that she treats them like babies, not dogs, and the only reason they are not totally impossible is that they are not big enough to do much damage. I had to adjust one's attitude - MIL asked me to get his collar on him, because she couldn't make him sit still, and he tried to nip me. That dog was belly up so fast he didn't know what hit him. Trust me, nothing like that has EVER happened to him before. I can promise you he won't try that again.

It is a gorgeous day out there, so I am going out to plant the blackberry I bought today after church. Dh is painting the porch railing. Jesse is trying to learn to roller blade, so everybody pray that we don't end up in the ER today.

sorry to come in on the tails of a topic so funny and be a downer but-

I have a situation that needs some prayer. I am the eldest child of my father's THIRD marriage, this means I have half siblings out there. My dad only just really got back together with his eldest son a couple of years ago. We had heard from the youngest son back when I was 12 and he was a junior or senior in high school and found out that his "daddy" was not his biological father. The younger son has stayed in touch over the time. I have gotten emails and the like maybe once every 2 years the last 10 or so years from him. only ever met him the once.

Well, the younger son called my dad this Saturday to tell him that his mom had passed away.

Mom called and gave me the phone number and address. I am more inclined to send a letter and card than call. I know the younger son is normally very emotional and I don't know if I can deal with that right now.

thing is I am not sure what his mom is to me? she wouldn't be my step mom would she? something tells me no but I am not sure. I also need to be careful as my dad and her never really "patched things up" he sent flowers and all but more for the boys benefit. Dad was brought up with a thought that bad things happen to us because we do bad things. You know the "god is punishing you" kinda thinking and he has said in most every conversation I have ever witnessed about this woman that God was giving her what she earned.

Now dad is facing the fact that he never patched it up AND that a woman HIS AGE has just "dropped dead" (his words). Oh the depression! and he is already dealing with depression.

I need to write this letter and get it in Tuesdays mail. I thank God for long weekends to pray and contemplate such things. I need the words to comfort a brother I have never met, another brother I have a cursory knowledge of... I do not know anything about their relationship with God or Jesus. I need words. I know God can give them.

~e

LOL Kara - we have 2 of our own that can be quite bratty at times!!!

Zoe - glad you were able to get the door shut!

LOL Cindy!!! I have one yappy one & one that's not yappy, but has a Loud bark! They both can be annoying, but are pretty lovable! Stoli is a total lover dog - he just wants to be petted & will roll on his back any time he's in the slightest bit of trouble (we think he's saying "look how cute I am, how could you be mad at me".

(((Ezri)))) - praying for your words to be of comfort to your brothers & for God to be glorified.

Dd has a friend over & we need to take her home soon. We haven't even attempted to finish up the garage - it's so stinking HOT outside! I'm hoping it cools off & we can get out there this evening. Either that or we'll have to try to get up early enough tomorrow to "beat the heat"!

Ez, I would treat it like I do Fred's family. I would just say that she is your brother's mother and not try to complicate it any more than that. The less complicated the lest dancing around with trying not to say the wrong words. I will be praying for you, your family.

I agree-she is your brother's mother. Because this is a relatively new family structure, we don't have proper names for that. I think a card would be nice.

So I went to my mom's and began my first-ever garden. I portioned out the amount of ground we thought I would need, cleaned it out and tilled in some fertilizer. Then I got all eight of my tomato plants in the ground. Unfortunately, that left no room for the pepper plants, so I have to do it all over again. I am gardening because I have some inner desire to do so, even though I hate getting dirty and I hate hard physical labor and I am sure I got too much sun...but I am also sure that there is something I am supposed to learn from this experience, and also, the gazpacho and the BLT sandwiches come August will be a nice reward in themselves.

Ez, I'm sure the Lord will give you the right words. Praying.

You are supposed to learn that there is a huge amount of satisfaction in being able to produce your own food and not have to worry about what might be in or on it. Besides, it tastes better.

I forgot to add that my MIL cried when I flipped her dog. He was on the couch when I flipped him, so he had a nice cushy landing. Honestly, how people can have animals for most of their lives and not understand them is beyond me.

I'm sure your poochies are very lovable, Amy. I'm just not a little-dog person. I prefer dogs that I don't have to worry about squishing. My beagle is about as small as I'd go.

I need to go finish cleaning the goat stall.

Jen - maybe you'll inspire me to go get some tomato plants & get started too! Won't be until next week though!

I understand Cindy. Dh & I were not little dog people either & to tell you the truth, if I picked our next dog it would be more of Stoli's size (25lbs). But for us these last 2 dogs picked us! They were both in circumstances where they needed a good home right away & we "happened" to be there! Luckily, Staci is not so much of an under the feet dog. Stoli is though, but he's big enough to see! It is also easier when you move & rent to have a smaller dogs. Landlords tend to freak out when they see a big dog - although our landlord here was really concerned that we had a cat. We also never know what size yard we'll have. Dh has already said that when we have our own house & a big yard, we're getting a big dog again.

Happy Memorial Day all!!! We have to try & finish the garage, so we can fit the vehicles back in! Almost everything is in the middle of the floor! But it is looking a lot better. Our trash can is full (luckily it's trash day today) and we have a BIG pile for goodwill! It'll be nice to pull in & not have to worry about hitting things & to be able to find something when we need it! We're debating whether to go to the amusement park here or not. It's their 50th anniversary, so they have a special where on Monday's all season - any active duty member & up to 4 family members pay only $.50 to get in!! Dh can't ride many rides, but we figured for $.50 it might still be worth it! However, it will be crowded today since they just opened for the season & school just got out here! And it will likely be really HOT again!

Cindy--I hear you about some people's dogs! The biggest command my dogs know is "move". For whatever reason, you are occupying space that I want to occupy. I'm the alpha. You move! Well, my aunt has this stupid little terror dog (NOT a mis-spelling!!!). She brought it up to Grandma's. This stupid little dog is ALWAYS underfoot. Grandma almost tripped over it several times. I told it to move, and it just looked at me. Let's just say the dog has learned that when I say "move!" it had better move! I swear, though, that if Grandma trips over hte dog...

I went up to Grandma's yesterday. Went out to lunch with Grandma and my aunt. After lunch I changed in the restroom and headed to the bicycle group ride. Had a decent ride, although it was much slower than I had planned.

Neatest thing--on the way back to Grandma's I saw my high school biology teacher riding his bike. I pulled over and waited for him to pass. I called out to him. He was surprised to see me. He said I've really changed. He hasn't changed at all! The last time we saw each other was my wedding. Yah, I invited him to my wedding, that's how special he was to me. Had a really nice visit with him.

Cool story--he's always riding his bike. He used to ride to school every day. He was on a different bike yesterday, but I iddn't think anything about it. He said that his bike had been stolen out of his greenhouse. Mind you--20 years ago it was an old 3 speed so it really wasn't worth anything. A few weeks later, he and his wife were working at a soup kitchen and they all were talking about gas prices, and how they were trying to drive less. He said that he would ride more but his bike had been stolen. Someone suggested they check the bike rack out back so after they had finished cleaning up he went and looked. Sure enough, there was his bike. He was checking it out the verify it was his bike when the "owner" came out. The new owner claimed that he hadn't stolen it, that someone had given it to him. My teacher verified the story and decided that this man needed the bike more than he did. Word got out about this and his son's neighbor decided that at 80yo he wasn't going to ride anymore and sold my teacher his almost new mountain bike for $30, even though it was worth much more. How cool is that?!

Then back to Grandma's and had a nice visit with her. Then the long drive back home. Made for a very long day!

That is a neat story His... I actually read the whole thing. I must admit, unless posts are short, I usually skim them, but I read yours.

Iowa had tornados and thunderstorms last night, but we barely had anything. WE had just enough rain to water the garden that I finally got planted and i am very grateful because my hose doesn't reach it.

We bought a trampoline, the kids LOVE IT!! THe kids had sleep over last night, so we are moving slow this morning.

Other than that ~ there is nothing new in my life I just found out a friend of ours in another state is having their 9th baby. I'm, of course, envious. (I love babies)

Ezri, You'll do fine with the letter. I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself. Let the Spirit move as you write and it will be fine. The Lord will guide you and bless your family through a simply note of concern and care.

I enjoyed my birthday-sorry Karaboo did not enjoy hers and gald Cindy's Brandon enjoyed his.

I figured we were going to have leftovers-which would have beenf ine with me. Instead dh brought home food and we ate that, along with a little cake and a kit on how to make cheese. My blessing kept saying it was her birthday so she co-opted the day. I guess that means when it realy is her birthday, I get to co-opt her day?

Sorry Ellie you had to drop out of the dance. I know how disappointing that can be. Can't wait to see your slideshow though!

((Ezri))

Jen,
I'm sorry you are going to be unemployed soon.

Stoms every night with torando watches all weekend long. THe days were hot humid and sunny, but the evenings the clouds rool in and after midnight thunder. Thunder so loud the house rattles, and right now it is thundering again. 96% humidity 70 now but should go up to 88 with 96% or more humidity. Also storms tomorrow.

It's summer, all right.

... that sounds...hmmm... rather sticky

It is amazing to me, how I grew up with humidity and didn't think anything of it. Then, I moved away to a dry climate for 15 years. Now, I move back to sticky again and I feel like such a big baby! I can't stand it!

Cindy--I hear you about some people's dogs! The biggest command my dogs know is "move".

Move, wait, leave it, and not now are the top 4 around here. Wait means they do not go through the open door in front of them until they are told to do so. I have 3 big dogs, and I am not about to allow myself or anyone else to get run over trying to come in or out the doors, especially when carrying stuff. Leave it is obvious, and not now is inspired by my shepherd, who is incredibly attached to me and will bump my hand to be petted at the most inopportune moments. Not now means to go lie down and leave me alone.

I read somewhere that the average (not Border Collie) dog is capable of learning 200 words. We usually teach them - what, a dozen? There's no reason why every dog can't behave decently. I really have very little patience for people who treat their animals like humans and then can't figure out why they're total brats.

It's supposed to rain here tonight too, with temps only in the low 60's tomorrow. It's been 70's for the last couple of days, which has been nice. I'm ready for it to warm up.

Cindy, my dd (and I) would totally agree with you on people and animals.

But I must confess I have a little dog- 5 lb Papillon terrier, to be exact. She knows park it, down, stay, roll over, jump, go get it, bring and where's your bone? both by voice and hand signal. I am sure she could learn more commands too.

But terriers can be a terror. She's starting to develop separation anxiety at 3 yrs old, and I must guiltily admit that I believe if I were to walk her more often and teach her more commands she would be happier.

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

The weather is awesome here in southern NC. Hope everyone else is enjoying the time off.

Jerry is currently on the phone with Mr. S- his Jewish friend that recently accepted Christ. Mr. S is also an alcoholic and is having issues right now that are not good. I walked out to fetch jerry for dinner and he was praying with Mr. S on the phone hard. Please pray for Mr. S. he is dealing with "losing" his jewish family and the thoughts that all those that heard what he has heard and rejected christ are lost forever. he has stopped taking all his meds this past week and his wife(professing non-practicing catholic) has called a few times very distraught.

please pray for Mr. S.

Thanks Ellie-

Mr. S is finally at home. Jerry is chatting with him again, he was saying he was gonna go take his meds. Jerry told him he needed to wait til morning as he did not know how the meds might react to the alcohol in his system. had to tell him 3 times and then explain it really slowly.

His wife is with him and can help him now.

I had a terror-er when I was a kid. He was mixed with something else - not sure what - but he was a good dog. One of the people who used to board horses at the same place we did had a little Jack Russel who would jump up on the backs of the horses and ride around. She was a cutie, and surprisingly laid back for a Jackie. Her name was Tater Tot.

Praying, Ez and Annie.

Shadow - do you crate her when you leave? Our little dog had separation anxiety when we first got her. She'd been shifted from home to home, so it's no wonder. We got her a carrier & started crating her when we left. She does really well with it. I read somewhere that little dogs actually feel safer in the crate when you aren't around. We also crate Stoli, because it wouldn't be fair to leave him out! (OOOPS is that too close to treating them like children Cindy? ). They go right in their crates when we say so. It has saved a lot of trouble (and clean up KWIM?)!

Ez - praying for Mr. S & his wife too!

Annie - praying for your dh too!

We had storms roll through last night & I forgot to put the grill cover on! Also left the lighter out there (it may not work now)! We needed the rain, so I guess it was good. We got the garage completely cleaned out & organized!! It looks awesome! If only the rest of the house looked that good! We now have more room to get in & out of the vehicles & can actually find things when we need them!! What a concept huh? We filled our garbage can & most of our one neighbor's too! She lives alone & told us to put stuff in her can anytime we needed. Usually, we don't even fill ours, but this time we needed it! We also have quite a bit of stuff to donate, but couldn't find a thrift store open yesterday (I guess because of the holiday). I left a message on the Habitat for Humanity pick up line, I'm hoping they call me back today & can come & get it!

Jitsu has been crate trained form the beginning! And we bought her from the breeders, so I know she doesn't have issues of being separated from mommy too early, either.

She will "go to bed" immediately (oops, that's another command I forgot to mention!) when we tell her to, but we don't usually crate her when we're gone.

However that is a great idea! We did use to crate the Chihuahuas when we left, as the boy was not always trust-worthy. They were excellent travel companions. Never a peep out of them when they were crated.

Well, I'm off to MD to take Angelica and Michael to see their respective mothers. Pray for us if the Lord leads. I am hoping for a strife-free event, but with Angelica's mom you never know what harmless and normal activity will set her off...

Thank you all for being such good and supportive cyber-friends!
