I'm glad it's not true and didn't realize birds can't smell. You taught me something new today.
Latin is not useless at all. It is the base of several languages. If one can speak and understand Latin, it makes it much easier to speak and understand Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Romanian, plus other dialects and little known languages in that region. That is why you hear of people who can speak five or six languages fluently. You can pretty much bet they are fluent in Latin, which makes it possible to learn the other languages much more easily. TL wants to take Spanish, but I am requiring her to take one year of Rosetta Stone Latin first. After that, she will be ready for Spanish and have a better foundation if she wants to take other languages as well.
Romance languages are:

The kids were very good though...again. In fact everyone commented about how well they were and that they had never seen four kids (or any kids) act so well in the office before our kids!!! That really is a blessing that they were so good both times!!! They are usually good for things like that anyway, but it's just good to have good kids...kwim?
Paul's knee is doing good though. It wasn't as badly damaged as the right, so it wasn't as long as the first surgery. Today he is really hurting though...moreso then last time. I warned him about that....I figured he would be because he was still favoring the other knee a bit, so now he basically has two bum knees. It is more swollen this time then last time...and more bruised. I am trying to keep him with ice packs, but he won't use them as much this time. Maybe by tonight I will have convinced him that it might actually help more to keep ice on it!!!! He is stubborn in that regard though, so he isn't listening yet. I was going to go out earlier and do some running around by myself (well, without him, but not by myself)...but he wanted to go, so he used the motorized cart at one place and I couldn't get him to use it at the other place...so now he is hurting. He took some meds though and is now napping. Maybe I should go put some ice on it for him while he is asleep.....do you think that would be mean?
One of the places we went (the place that hubby wouldn't use the motorized cart) was Lowes. We are going to finally be able to get a refrigerator!!! The one we have was gotten when we got here last year...he bought it off a guy moving out of the barracks and to another base....so it's a small one. It is only about five feet tall....and maybe as wide as my shoulders. It has been a good refrigerator though, but definitely not big enough for our family. Anyway, with the rebate money we are getting a refrigerator. We were thinking of going with a rebuilt one at this used appliance store in town (we got our washer and dryer there and are very pleased with them)...but the downside to that is that we have to get it ourselves and get it here ourselves. Since we don't know that many people that could or even would help us, that's not the best option. So We are thinking of just shelling out more money and getting a new one and having it delivered...esp since Paul doesn't need to be lifting that kind of thing right now (and obviously I can't) and they will deliver and set it up for us. Anyway...I am about to start a poll about refrigerators over in the H/G folder...so if you all could go over and answer my poll that would be great!!!
Emma started something new yesterday....instead of just making weird drawings of nothing on paper, she started actually drawing things!!! People....houses....etc!!!! It's exciting for me to see her get to that new level!!!! She isn't a "baby" anymore...getting totally into that pre-K/K stage now!!!

or things ministry related (Biblical studies, etc)...it really helped my dad as a minister and teacher to be able to really get to the root of things easier because of having taken Latin.

Sarah- glad to hear your honey's outpaitent surgery went well.
The kitchen is coming along. Jerry stopped in to change his clothes before going in to do his Last class of the semester at the college- I got home a he did with the pieces parts to fix the underneath so it was draining right and not into a tidy cats bucket.
He has apologized repeatedly about the counter top. Problem? He moved everything out 2" instead of the 1" and we are gonna have to put in a 1x4 between the back splash and the wall THEN top it with a 1/4 round molding to make it looks right. he said he'd figured it all out now.
I laughed and said GOOD but you are gonna have to mess up purposely on the 18" where the microwave goes on the other side of the stove because it will need to look the same as the sink base. he smirked and said "Can Do Babe!" then kissed me bye and took off for class (He was running late)
I think that the boys got into the swing of things about 11:00pm. He told them to HELP or go to bed about then. I had ALL the tools lined up on the island behind where he was working and categorized- wrenches, saws, caulk and all. It really shouldn't have been so very bad. I think this summers Study is gonna be TOOLS! their common names and standard names. "Hand me the thing-a-ma-bob" = Hand me the philips head screwdriver.

I haven't posted in the May thread yet, and told myself that I was going to keep up with the April one...did better...and
am keeping up on this one pretty well. Anyway, will jump in from time to time... Anyway, saw that a couple of you were fired for being too nice/friendly. Well, I was fired once for being "too close to the kids" at an after school program run by the public schools. LOL I guess we are supposed to distance ourselves from the kids that we are supposed to be taking care of... ???

Well... I did it. I registered Greg for the SAT. He will take it on June 7th. He took the PSAT in Oct and the critical reading(which I am assuming is the verbal part on the SAT) he didn't do very well. So PLEASE PRAY. So we are at the juncture of testing, visiting and applying for colleges. We have already visited one college(Liberty U in Lynchburg). I loved it, but Greg said it was to far from home(not sure if I put all this info in the April thread, so sorry if this is a repeat). With time of year and such that it is we probably won't do another visit until next fall(Sept, Oct, Nov-something like that) to a few here in IN. Then the BIG worry comes(at least for me) FINANCIAL AID!! So please keep us in your prays for this new path.

Dh and I are going to get some old fashioned windows today to use for our garden. We can have a makeshift greenhouse if we put them over our raised beds. There will be parsley, rosemary, oregano, basil, sage and chives for the herbs. Vegetables will be zucchini, straight neck squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and other items that are yet to be determined. This is going to be the Square Foot Gardening method, so we'll see how that works for us. The beds are built. Hopefully we'll get dirt next week and plant the starts that came on Tuesday.

The boys are still asleep and it's cloudy out, so it doesn't feel like 9 am yet. I've been reading my The Old Schoolhouse mag in the peace and quiet.
I'll have to get the boys up soon, though, since Brandon has spinning this afternoon and there are other things that need to be done first. I suppose I should shower and dress, too, lol.

I just got back from my 3rd trip to the dentist this week. (only 1 trip was for me.) Jeremiah, age 10, had 6- yes folks SIX -extractions. He did very well- I told the dentist that he did not get that from me.
They have had me carrying the kids in for their visits to desensitize me but this last one was probably not a good idea.  Jeremiah did AWESOME! even with the needles, and they did all 4 quads! me on the otherhand- AHHHHHHH about EVERYONE in the office knows that it usually takes a Valium to get me to go back into the rooms. The oral surgeons (two of them) bring in their own assistants. The only ones that KNEW about my irrational fears were the receptionist and the regular dentist and the ONE assistant he had there to help him and neither were working with Jeremiah.
Needless to say I am standing there looking at the one guy and his gal friday about age 12/13 myself at the time and trying to pull myself together to ask if I might chat with him in the hall way. (Brain is clearer out there) I was together enough to KNOW that they did not see the *AFRAID OF NEEDLES* note in Jeremiahs chart. I KNOW the feeling of being beat to a bloody pulp by him when it comes to needles so I feel like I need to tell them this.
SO I go through all of this with the one surgeon. then he escorts me to the waiting room so I don't freak my child out with MY fears. I Barely get settled into the seat and another dentist comes to the door. Seems that the first dentist felt the case better suited to the OTHER dental surgeon- so I get to go over all of that again.
OR- Possible- really possible- that they were conspiring to make it happen that I'd meet and chat with BOTH of them... another de-sensitization deal? I dunno. I did not ask. I do know that in the future... probably this summer I am gonna have one or the other of them get real up close and personal with #32, 31, 30, 18, & 19 in my mouth. I could probably take #30 out myself, it is really mobile and after #30 came out #31 would not be much of a challenge... a few days of wiggling.....
NO I am NOT gonna do it myself! but I know #30 is only still there because of gravity.

My husband is having a ton of dental work done this year too. It has been very hard on him. Currently he can barely chew. It will be two or three more months before they can fit for and install his new teeth. Our dentist died and we had to switch to a new one. Dh had avoided going to the dentist, which of course makes things much worse. Finally he went to this dentist and he and the dentist totally hit it off. The dentist and dh communicate really well and it has helped dh tremendously to get this taken care of. It is horribly expensive though. Almost our entire tax return is going to pay for this and that is after $4000 in dental coverage. But it is going to be so worth it.
