I saw One Night with the King. Well made, great sets and scenery, but poor writing and acting (IMO)

I do agree that the Chronicles of Narnia films and such are very, very good, but they were made by major secular companies, not the Left Behind type B flicks.

I don't think Walden Media is all that secular; not overtly Christian perhaps, but I know one of the co-founders is a Christian.

I am trying to say that small companies on shoestring budgets can't hire the caliber of talent, or budget in the big time effects we see in other films these day. If they could, movies about the Maccabbeean revolt, a remake of the life of Moses, or David would be FANTASTIC!!

Well, like I said before, I think this used to be true, but I don't think it is anymore.

Personally, I always thought a movie made from the life of Elijah would be pretty incredible. I think if some bright Christian had his druthers, he would make a graphic novel of it first, like 300, and then sell that to a responsible movie producer.

I think that's actually the point. If big companies see that these films can be lucrative, they will make more of them. FoxFaith is not what I would call a "small company" and they have actually made some really good movies. But if no one will go seem them because they are predisposed to think that Christian movies will be silly and cheesy (as it seems you are), then they'll stop releasing them. And that is actually what has happened unfortunately- at least with FoxFaith. In 2006 and 2007, FoxFaith released several Christian themed movies in theaters. They did marginally well, but not well enough. The company has since decided to focus more on direct to DVD and made for televison movies. Which I think is sad, because I would love to see more movies like The Ultimate Gift and One Night with the King in theaters.
Bluestone- I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about One Night with the King, but give Amazing Grace and The Ultimate Gift a try. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised[:)]

I will. [:)]

I live in a rather small town, so unless it is a blockbuster, it probably will be in the theater here for a very short time, if at all.

The way I see it, anytime you go buy a movie ticket, you are taking a gamble- the movie might be good, but it also might be a dud. Every dollar we spend goes to line someone's pockets. So why not support the movies that are made with a specifically Christian morality or theme? If it is bad, feel free to say so and not recommend it to others. If it is great, then you have the satisfaction of seeing a really good movie and you just made a statement to Hollywood and the powers that be that there is a market for good wholesome films.

Because it is a bad gamble. I have yet to see a well made Christian oriented film, other than the Mel Gibson genre. Bad writing, bad filming, and bad acting in most cases.

Now how about "A Walk To Remember", "Shadowlands" or "Life Is Beautiful?"

I won't go see a poorly made Christian themed film, just because it is "Christian". IMO, Christian and cheesey should never go hand in hand.

I will go see really good movies, and not see trash, regardless of the source.

I am not afraid to get up and walk out of a film, if it is trashing Christianity.

I agree.

Life is beautiful was fantastic. However, it had nothing to do with Christians, but with Jews during the holocaust. Shadowlands was good. But it not made by "Christians" producers, and it got some heat from Christians because it showed C.S. Lewis as being less than perfect.

I don't remember there being any general concern about the way Lewis was depicted in Shadowlands.

But Life Is Beautiful falls under the moral category though. Of course the film was criticized.

Yes. As long as they meet the standards of the Hays Code. Unfortunately this rules out 99% of movies made today.

Walden Media is a great example.

Looking at the films they have produced, include "Charlotte's Web" (the latest one with dakota in it), Because of Winn Dixie, and Hoot....among many others.
May not be "smack you upside the head "Christian"....but, great movies for the entire family, nonetheless...with a great story, and a good "message", as well.

Add in there "The Greatest Game Ever Played", and even "Cars", for that matter, from Disney.

Sure beats suffering through "second-rate" performances in "Christian" movies.
The kids in our church's "Children's Choir" (grades 1-6) musical typically put on a better performance than what is seen in a "typical" "Christian" movie.
