I know all plants are different, but just as a general rule...

Is it ok to move outdoor plants to different location even though they are now starting to bloom? It seems like I have heard that there is a bad time to move them, but I can't remember what the bad time is?

It is best to move plants when they are sleeping. [:D] If they are starting to leaf out then they have already woken up and won't appreciate being hauled around. If they are blooming, it's a really bad time to move them. Some plants will do ok being moved after they're done blooming, but in general, it's best to move them after they've gone dormant for the year.

The proper word here is awakened. There is no such word as woken. But I do agree with your post. Once the leaves start to bud it's to late to move plants. They will most likely go into shock.

Ok...thanks for the info and the added grammar lesson...lol

Why can we buy plants that are flowering/blooming in a pot and it isn't an issue? I'm not trying to argue; just curious.

I think it has to do with the fact that the roots are "settled in" in the pot. They are not overly disturbed to be moved and replanted. You can move a plant any time, it just is a question of how much trauma you cause them. Plants go through stress just like people or animals. If you move them when there is less stress, then they recuperate faster. Another time to NOT replant would be in the heat of the summer. They cope better with cooler temps like in the early spring or autumn.

Woken is in the dictionary. It is the past participle of Wake.

I agree with Rose. It really depends on the plant and the timing.

I just moved some hostas because everything in that bed is going (and they came up late so I didn't get to them in the dormant stage). My hostas are notoriously easy-going. I've separated them and moved them around at almost every time of year.

Ok, thanks... I will quick move the ones that I want to now before summer gets here!

I never used awaken; always used woken.... But hey, ya can't go by me, I still sometimes say I "can't hardly" stand that and I KNOW that is wrong!!! It's my southern roots coming out!! [:D] My kids get such a thrill when they get to correct me!!
