I'm still training my lawn service [;)] -- My teenaged son and my hubby do 95% of the work on our lawns. Now we have just shy of a quarter acre to mow so it takes a bit of time and energy, but the exercise we get from walking behind our push mower is nice! My hubby grew up mowing sometimes, then not having a yard to mow or his parents hired it out. I grew up mowing with my siblings nearly 2 acres of our yard PLUS the little cemetary across the road, which was an additional 2 acres.
We used to hire it out to a neighborhood teen when our kids were younger and we didn't have a mower, but within the last couple of years this teen has moved on to college and has several clients for his mowing business over the summer PLUS works full time year round.
As far as weed control goes - sometimes I think if it weren't for the weeds we wouldn't have a lawn - especially under the apple trees!
