Cyclone plunges Myanmar into a primitive existence
• Secretary of State Rice presses Israel to remove roadblocks
• Wall St. expected to open lower after Microsoft drops Yahoo! bid
• Clinton campaign hopes for 'game-changer' primaries
• Children's use of anti-psychotic drugs soars in U.S. and U.K.
• Winning Powerball ticket worth $180.1 million sold in Minnesota

this is from Yahoo at 6:47 am Central Time.

Where can you find Christians in these headlines?

I wonder...would the winner be depressed if it was only 180 million and not 180.1?

Well, let's see:
I'm sure there were at least a few Christians affected by the cyclone.
Condoleeza Rice claims to be a Christian.
Wall St. and Christianity probably mix at some level (Christians invest, too).
The Clintons claim to be Christians.
Drug abuse affects some Christians and their children.
No word yet on the identity and faith of the Powerball gambler.

So, the score is 5 out 6.

ta_mosquito -> RE: Todays Headlines. (5/5/2008 9:21:31 PM)

I heard that the winning ticket was sold in Rice County (that'd include cities like Faribault).

garsyt -> RE: Todays Headlines. (5/5/2008 9:43:39 PM)

Nope not my family then.

tracydolls -> RE: Todays Headlines. (5/5/2008 9:50:04 PM)

Being a person who is addicted to the pc & pepsi.

I get sick to my stomach just listening.

Anyone else?

ta_mosquito -> RE: Todays Headlines. (5/5/2008 10:05:42 PM)

Maybe it's all that Pepsi. That stuff can rot out your stomach. [;)]

But seriously, I hardly ever watch the news anymore. It's too depressing.

Cyclone plunges Myanmar into a primitive existence

Myanmar is the country that USED to be called Sri Lanka, right?

This afternoon's headline is "Bush Calls on Myanmar to Allow U.S. Cyclone Aid"....

waiting and waiting for them to "ALLOW" our aid?

Sounds like Katrina all over again....the "locals" are calling the shots, and are thwarting the efforts of those needing/wanting to come in and provide assistance.

As a child of a Presbyterian minister, I think it's pretty safe to say Condi Rice is a "Christian".....(not that it's "automatic" or anything...but, a very good chance)

EDIT: NOPE....i was wrong! (and i used to be SO GOOD at Geography, too!).....OH, it USED to be BURMA....that's why...has only been "Myanmar" since '89....thus the confusion as to WHY I had never heard of the place before....

ta_mosquito -> RE: Todays Headlines. (5/6/2008 9:22:53 PM)

Yep, Kerns - the Burmese government (Myanmarian government? However you say it!) wants aid but only wants it on their terms - they want to divvy it out instead of letting the foreign nations distribute it.

Why, I don't know.

garsyt -> RE: Todays Headlines. (5/6/2008 9:34:33 PM)

Oh so they can give it to the people THEY want to have it and possibly not to those that REALLY need it, maybe.

Anyway - I don't know either.

Blessings,

Garsy

It used to be Burma. And the Military Junta is killing anyone - Christian, Buddist or not - that doesn't comply with its wishes.

And in terms of Microsoft and Yahoo stcok, a number of Christians directly have stock in these companies. Or, have pension funds that derive its income from thse companies. And a number of Christians work at these companies!

From what I hear, she is a Christian, Has an earned doctorate, Is a classically trained musician. Is a top-notch ice skater. Came from humble roots. And is hated by a good portion of the AA community b/c she is a conservative.

In reagrds to the headlines, the Israel vs Palestine is a milenia old conflict going back to Jacob and Essau.

colliefan -> RE: Todays Headlines. (5/6/2008 9:57:04 PM)

In terms of the lottery it is a tax on the poor and the stupid. In NC, the lottery was put in through political trickery. It does NOT help the poorer counties as th highest payout goes to the counties with the highest property tax rates. The concept of the POWERBALL is to get more suckers to bet their small earnings in a futile attempt to get rich. It has been proven the highest sales comes from the poorer sections of town. And what political party is all for this game: the Democracts. The party that cares so much for the poor and the downtrodden. Sure

I was reacting to the time it took for anyone to post about it. If Obummer had sneezed during the national anthem, fifty posts would have hit within two minutes. My way of reflecting on priorities.[8|]

Today, May 9th, the Duggars announced they are expecting number 18.

I don't know if they made headlines but made the announcement on the Today Show.
