Some wrenches won't fit into an area, like in a car engine, so you will need one that is either off-set or flexible.
This also brings up the issue of hammers, you have a typical claw hammer for nails but they are too large for delicate jobs where you are using tacks. A claw hammer won't work on jobs with metals where you need to be using a ball-peen hammer. A ball-peen hammer will damage a hubcap after changing a tire when you ought to be using a rubber mallet. Sometimes you need something for brute strength, answer, sledge hammer. Or you're trying to knock a piece of wood into place without marring the surface, answer, a padded dead-blow hammer.
Every job has the proper tool.

It depends on the flick with me. I loved Fried Green Tomatoes, hated Steel Magnolias.
Much of the time the humor and situations portrayed in chick flicks are gender specific and lost on a guy. This just bores us. What really makes us loathe chick flicks is the fact that when you succeed in dragging us to one, you get mad when we aren't laughing and crying at the same things that make you laugh and cry.

LOL John - I love this answer! I had to laugh when I read this ... "exploring alternative routes." But seriously, you are blessed to have a good sense of direction and spatial relationships. I think that studies show that men tend to have a better sense of spatial relationships (I'm horrible at it).

I have different colors of polish to go with outfits, moods, etc. I also like to change up my eye make-up sometimes. My friends have called me a chameleon. LOL
So, Guys, why do men get sooooooooooo into sports, eg. shirtless, painted-face goofs at football games?

I don't own nailpolish. If I did, it'd probably be clear polish.
When it comes to makeup, I have what I need for a basic, natural look. I have ONE mascara and I never use it. I don't even own eyeliner, nor have I ever dyed my hair. I hate long nails and keep them trimmed all the time. I guess my answer to this question is that I grew up a 'tomboy' and never reeeeeeeeeeally got into all that. I'm 24 and I only bought makeup for the first time last April. I suppose I don't really fall in to the generalized "women" category in this case.

Ever tried using the wrong sized Allen (Hex) key? It doesn't work unless you have the correct size. I've needed these little things for things like my desk, and my rollerblades, among other things.
In this case, size does matter. So does shape.

All right, I'll take a page from Jazzlvrs book. Here we go:
The number of different types of cosmetics, nail polish, and shoes are analagous to the tools discussion. Let's start with the shoes. A woman can get away with four pairs of shoes. Think of it as being the 4-screwdriver toolset that you can pick up at Walmart (I have one of those - love it - it is in a cute little blue bag). Your shoes could be a plain black pump, a nice comfortable neutral colored sandal, brown flat shoe, and a pair of tennis shoes. Actually, depending on what she's doing, she might be able to get away with less. However, let's say you are attending a formal event, perhaps wearing a beautiful blue beaded gown. While you could maybe get away with a plain pair of black pumps, it would most likely not be the best choice - you might want a pair of died blue satin pumps that would match your dress. Or, what if you are going hiking with your boyfriend? While a rugged tennis shoe might work if it isn't too steep, a nice-fitting pair of Timberlands might fit the bill. And what if you are wearing a nice white linen pantsuit with a pink shirt underneath? Well, it would look so much better with pink or brown sandals (or if you can work purple or lavender in there it could look so cute). You could go with flat shoe though, but the sandal (especially a nice little wedge) might be the best for that outfit. Likewise, you could have one purse that you wear everywhere (your "standard adjustable wrench"), but to have a nice summer straw bag with the linen outfit would be better.
The same goes for makeup. Many women opt for bolder colors if they are going out for a night on the town and lighter, more neutral colors for a daytime professional look. Or no makeup. Or my favorite - a bit of foundation, a little eyeliner/mascara, little powder and neutral lipstick and I'm ready to go. I still look like myself and just change my lipstick for night (and might add a bit more eyeliner and do my nails). An added layer of complexity are seasonal changes. You also have to take into account that your skin color and maybe even type changes. I get several shades darker in the summer and my skin gets a bit oilier. So, my foundation (a base makeup on which other makeup is applied) changes a bit and I wear a bit lighter moisturizer. In the winter though, I need all of the moisturizer I can get.
Ditto for nail polish. Red might be nice for certain looks, a much more neutral color might be nice for the office. Some like wilder colors (blue, black, green) if they want a funkier look. It is all a matter of personal style.
By the way, I should add a disclaimer. While I like talking about cosmetics, clothes, and shoes - and can recognize and put together outfits etc., I am not really a girly girl. I've had to pare my closet down to the bare minimum (I do have more than 4 shoes though) because my life has changed significantly in the past year and requires me to be much more simple. I have a much more natural look, but I like to add a little pizazz. But I do understand the concept of the right "tool" for the "job."

That's easy. We have different moods, different occasions, and different outfits we need to dress for. I used to have quite a selection until they all dried up, and I just stick with a couple favorites now.

ladies...i hate to say it, but i'm all done with the multiple nail color stuff. red for toenails. clear or maybe "american" for fingernails. and it's NOT just cuz i drive a truck and have to clean my nails 5 times a day after i put on grimy gloves or something. i simply adopted the "SIMPLIFY" motto many, many years ago. but the shoes.......gotta have choices!!!!!

I am one who will have a map with me if I am in unfamiliar locations. I am like John I may get turned around, but if I am awake during the trip I am seldom if ever lost.
