On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your music library when it comes to variety. One being little or no variety and 10 being a ton of variety.

I listen to a pretty good variety of stuff so I would give myself a 9. A few examples of artists in my library are: Living Sacrifice, Van Morison, Buddy Rich, Frou Frou, Keith Green, Vangelis, Mute Math, Garth Brooks, and Dear Ephesus. I would have given myself a 10, but I refuse to listen to Rap.

I would have given myself a 9, except that I don't listen to rap or country. [:D]

I'm the same way but I figure its an 8, -2 for not listening to two genres. Although I dabble in Garth Brooks & Gnarls Barkley but thats more alt hop. Flipsyde is half rap I suppose.

I rated myself a nine. I like all styles of music although country, hip-hop and rap are my least favorites. But then again there are songs in those that I like too and with my brother-in-law running a rap radio show in Vegas and recording his own stuff I get exposed to a lot more rap. I get exposed to a lot of hip hop at the high school dances I chaperone with my wife at the the high school she teaches, so I get exposed to more current stuff too.

From orchestra, to Disney, to Franky. . .

to Norma Jean, Marilyn Manson, and Korn.

And just about everything in between.

I voted 8, because I avoid country and pop.

And lame stuff.

aint into rap and sicko rock. hate metal after 1991. prefer some old stuff or blues, rockabilly, Southern Gospel, Praise & WOrship, country, but fave is Bluegrass

RHardin15 -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/6/2008 8:26:23 AM)

I gave myself a 5. I mainly listen to Rock and Hip Hop, but I include some pop, and some others. I do not like Country, and I do not like alot of the AC format. I also don't listen to the majority of traditional Gospel.

Therefore, 5. :)

shovelhead -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/7/2008 7:14:09 PM)

I'm a 7. What I do not listen to is: new country (after 1970), rap, praise, classic rock, opera, orchestra (unless it is jazz), Southern Gospel, hymns. Maybe a 7 is too much except there is such a variety in jazz that it makes up for all that I do not listen to.

Auben -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/8/2008 9:36:43 AM)

I'm not sure what to rate myself. We don't have that many CDs but my husband and I listen to a wide variety of music outside of our CD collection.

Actually we're still mourning our local radio station that sold out a few months ago. I could listen to pop, blues (really old blues too), jazz, classic rock, rock, old-time country, bluegrass, folk, acoustic, metal...all mixed in together. It was a great station.

The only things I didn't really hear were rap, classical and christian (and I have classical and christian in my own collection).

I'm not that into metal (or anything harder) but I'll try just about anything else.

I'd rate myself a 8 (not too interested in metal, most rap) with our CD/record collection only rating a 3 or 4.

BlindLemon5103 -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/8/2008 9:44:00 AM)

I'd rate myself a 7, or possibly an 8.

While I like all kinds of music, I tend to stick with older stuff, not choosing to listen to much of what is current. I'm an old soul. I've been called an "archivist' and "completist" by my friends....I'm an eclectic completist, or an archival eclectic, or some combination of the two. (or maybe I'm just a little bit eccentric!).

Can't get into rap, or modern R&B. I just can't get into urban yodeling and excessive vocal runs, no matter what they're singing about. It all sounds the same to me. As does much of modern music. I sound like a typical old guy now! (I'm 43, with a teenage daughter...she has no interest in much of what I listen to....however my autistic son likes Cream, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles...that's another story for another post! [:)])

I suppose no one can really rate themselves a 10 because everyone has some kind of music that they don't particularly care for.

Pretty much sums me up, to. I'd give myself an 8 because, although my collection runs the gamut from classical to punk and back again, there's no rap and no R&B past the 80's.

This phrase cracked me up. [:D]

gtrdave -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/8/2008 10:10:09 PM)

At least a 10.
Look through my records, tapes, CDs, DVD-As and mp3s and you'll find something of everything...Mel Torme, Megadeth, Juan Garcia Esquivel, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bach, Paganini, Knowdaverbs, CSN&Y, Clint Black, Chet Atkins, Hammered Dulcimer Hymns, "Shaft" soundtrack (the original), Glenn Miller, Celtic, Jazz from Hong Kong, Lee Ritenour, Guitar Monks, Beatles, Prokofiev, Joy Williams, Marvin Sapp, Hubert Sumlin, Stevie Wonder...

I think I even have some Gregorian Chant, bluegrass, Georges Bizet and Crack the Sky somewhere in there.

Casper22 -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/9/2008 11:33:46 AM)

I gave myself a 8 because I basically love it all except for **** and Southern Gospel. My cd collection of everything from Lorenna Mckennet to Madam Butterfly and Phantom of the Opera then from that to Stevie Nicks to Mortification and Nitro Praise and Trance Nation to Dolly Parton and Nightwish my favorite tho is Metal and Trance.

andyk2010 -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/11/2008 10:01:23 PM)

i gave myself a nine, but its more of an 8.5. like most of those who replied, i don't listen to hip hop or country (except wilco). but i got everything; harder stuff like underoath, inhale exhale and august burns red all the way to stuff like the shins, death cab for cutie and band of horses.

rockitd -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/11/2008 10:49:14 PM)

I gave myself a 10 because being a self-avowed country hater, I've actually come to appreciate it and Southern Gospel thanks to Carrie Underwood and the Crabb Family. My music collection covers traditional and urban Gospel, pop, rock, metal, punk, new wave (circa 80s), Holy Hip Hop, and praise and worship.[8D] There is some extreme hardcore that I don't care for, but if it glorifies God, I'm down.[8D]

Beyond 10.

amymelissa -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/13/2008 12:03:49 AM)

I gave my self an 8. I have a lot in my library that I listen to. Rolling Stones, Slinkee Minx, Scooter, ABBA, ACDC, Styles & Breeze (techno), Sum 41, Relient K, P.O.D., Superchick, Barlow Girl, movie soundtracks (instrumental), Pink, Linkin Park, Bond (instrumental) Blink 182, Foo Fighters, TobyMac ... huge variety of music. Only thing I don't really like is Rap and some R&B. I don't mind a couple of Eminem songs, but most are quite bad.

PHmosh1 -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/13/2008 7:46:46 AM)

I went with a 9.

I have a pretty wide variety in my collection. From Slayer to Elton John to 2-Pac to Chopin. On the Christian side: Underoath, Steve Green, Smitty, Demon Hunter, Chris Tomlin...

MoshForChrist -> RE: How would you rate your variety in music? (5/13/2008 11:52:04 AM)

I'd give myself a 7.
I'm open minded to music but there's so much out there I haven't discovered.
I can't stand pop/punk though.....[:'(]
