I will be traveling with my almost 3 yr old and staying one night in a hotel. She will have her own double bed. I can sleep with her, oy, but she moves a lot so I will be in my bed. My question is, how can I make sure she won't roll out of the bed while we are there? She sleeps in her own big bed at home, but it's the top bunk of bunk beds put on the floor, so it has slats to keep her in all around. She's not used to open sides. When we traveled last week she slept on the floor on a camping mattress and kept rolling onto the floor. I had to keep putting her back in. No problem, but I'm afraid she'll really bonk her head. Any thoughts?

When we travelled with our children at that age and stayed in hotels, we pushed the bed up against the wall, and put a bed guard (we brought it with us) along the other side.

We used a pac and play for a long time with traveling with children who liked to wallk around when they shouldn't or fell out of bed. we have also put extra pillows on either side of them and then put a blanket over all of it for the toddler to sleep on top of. We pput the blanket oveeer the pillows so that the toddler wouldn't push the pillows off the bed or end up under them.

My dd is 2, so she is probably smaller than your dd, but most hotels offer complimentary cribs. You can ask. They are little roll away cribs...that are small enough to fit between the two beds or at the end of one of the beds. My dd has plenty of room in there though.

Push the bed against the wall. On the other side place 2 chairs with their backs against the side of the bed.

I would push it up against a wall and bring a bedside guard as well. Would she sleep in a pack n play possibly? Or could you get a room with a king size bed so she would have plenty of room to move without possibly bothering you?

Moving the bed is a good plan, but be sure to have a back up if decide to go that way. Not all hotel beds can be moved. some are attached to the floor.

Most of the beds, though, in a hotel are anchored to the floor. The base is immovable in my experience. She is too small for both the cribs and the pack and play. I do like the idea of the pillows and the blanket over the pillows.

I think you should just risk it.
A child can fall from a lot of things... the greatest possible risk would be maybe breaking an arm or getting a mild concussion - that doesn't stop you from letting her sit on chairs, climb play equipment or walk on a wet pool deck.
If she falls from a bed, chances are that you will pick her up, kiss her better, and go back to sleep. The risk of serious injury is too slight to be bothered with... at least, that's what I think when it comes to my own kids.

I would tuck pillows around her and put the blanket over them. IME, that is enough of a barrier to keep them from rolling farther usually.
And if she does happen to fall out of the bed...well, it happens and likely she'll be fine.

You could also place her sideways on the bed. She'd have to do a lot of moving to get to the end.

She is too SMALL? Is this just a typo? My little one has used a pack and play since birth, and the roll away cribs at the hotels since she was under 1 year. (We have had to travel a lot because of her surgeries.)

I would either sleep with the child, bring a pack and play, or ask for a crib from hotel.
My granddaughter rolled off the bed at age 2 and broke her collar bone.

And two of mine have fallen off of the top bunk in their sleep and not even woken up. 
You just have to determine how much risk you're willing to take. Walking up and down stairs is much more dangerous than sleeping in a bed without railings, IMO, and I'm sure Nadia does that all the time.

Oh yeah...someone reminded me of something. My cousin rolled off of my grandmother's bed twice and broke her collarbone both times... So, there is risk involved...not saying that it happens every time, but like everyone has said, you have to decide how much you are willing to risk it... Sometimes it can cause injury, sometimes it won't... With my dd, we use pillows to block her from rolling off on the rare occasion that she's not in her bed...but she doesn't move around much...

My son is very mobile in sleep as well. When I traveled with him when he was small (many times) I would put chairs along one side of the bed then sleep on the other side. If you do not want to sleep with her, then chairs on one side and pillows on the other might work. Depends some on how she tends to move in bed.
Edit: Another option is make her a bed on the floor. My son thinks that's the most fun of all and often even at home will sleep in his sleeping bag on the floor rather than in EITHER of his beds (bunkbeds)

They sell a blow up toddler bed with a light sleeping bag attached at Kmart. It comes with a foot pump and designed with all the cool toddler characters like Dora.

When DD1 (3yo) comes with us, we usually put the two blankets on the floor with a couple pillows for her to sleep with. The hard part for us is getting her to sleep knowing she's in the same room as us. When I was 3, I had a twin-sized bed that I fell out of and broke my collarbone. I don't remember it but my parents say it wasn't a fun experience. If you insist on her sleeping in bed, I'd request extra pillows and put them along the floor of the bed. They'd break her fall if she does fall and, for added measure, I've seen a bed rail sold at Baby's R Us/Toys R Us that seems to work well. I don't think it's more than $20 for a set of two.

I like this idea. I remember when I was little and we went to the beach this is what my parents did. They tucked pillows in at the headboard so there was no gap and it was soft and put a body pillow under the blankets on the other side of me. My sister stayed in the bed with them or in the bathtub. LOL!!
