The NHL Conference Finals start on Thursday night.

Dallas Stars vs Detroit Red Wings

Pittsburgh Pens Vs Philadelphia Flyers

Picks? Pans?

Since NBC seems to favor the Wings and Pens during the regular season will they get a Pens vs Wings final?

The Conference Finals should be good matchups this year. I am picking the Pens and Wings in the final and the pens winning the cup.

I don't really start following hockey until Playoff time. I'm hoping to see Detroit vs. Pittsburgh in the Finals.

I like the Wings over the Stars. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia though wow! I don't have a favourite in that one though I'd love for the Pens to win it. Let me find a coin for that game: Flyers.

Since Canes fans still bear just a bit of a grudge over their Finals lost to the Wings, let me pick the Stars,

Even though Canes fans still boo Orpick every time he touches the puck. Jordon Staal is on the Pens, and the Flyers are just above the Sabre dislike threshold, so, I'll go with the Pens.

For the finals, I'll go with the Pens to celrate that city's 250th BD

I want a Pens-Wings finals but then I'll also have to do the coin flip to see who I might want to win. Although, Pittsburgh is home to my beloved Steelers and the Pens haven't won it in awhile so, perhaps, they're due. OK, no coin needed! GO PENS!!!!!!

From a Blackhawks guy in Chicago...

...anyone but Detroit!

Stars vs. Flyers would work for me, though I like the Penguins too.

Flyers have the longest championship draught of the remaining four, so it would be nice to see them win. My next choice would be the Stars. They have impressed me with their play this postseason.

The only bad thing about the Flyers these days is that they no longer wear the orange jerseys, preferring the black ones! I think they have the orange as an alternate third jersey, but I rarely see it!

Anyway, should be fun. The NHL playoffs are the best!

Blessings to all, and especially to you, mapachito!

Hey Lemon, Good to see you in this neighborhood!

Sorry that Chicago hasn't had a good run in the playoffs since the early 90's. They used to be a formidable team especially with that stingy defense led by Chelios.

But coming back to the present: I can't root for the Stars because they defeated both CA teams and I have never been a Flyers fan.

Anyway blessings back at you and see you around!

The Stars are merely tired from their marathon game 6 with the Sharks.

Here's hoping they rebound in Game 2!!

My prediction tonight: Flyers steal the opener 4-3!

What a game between the Pittsburgh and Philly. Definetly going to be a tough series for each team to win.

Detroit is looking good as well in their 4-1 game one win and as I write this it is 2-1 Detroit.

I think my Wings (I grew up in Michigan) will win it all. I think they will finish the Stars off. And take Pitt in 5.

I'm hoping the Flyers and Stars make things interesting by winning the next two at home in their respective series.

So far, my predictions aren't looking too good! (Stars - Flyers final)...

Take that Dallas for beating the Ducks and Sharks!

Looks like except for Icarus, you truly can fly higher than the Stars with wings! Maybe Icarus would have faired better if his wings were made of frozen vulcanized rubber!

It looks as if both series are going to be sweeps, The Pens put another nail in the Flyers coffin and the Wings can close out their series tomorrow.

(Just got an e-mail the Canes are sending out their STH renewal information tomorrow. Wonder how much they will go up?)

I have no pity for the Ducks and Sharks, my friend! The only California hockey team I like would be the Kings. (I wish they would go back to the purple and gold uniforms - loved that look!). I recall those Kings teams of the late '70s...the "Triple Crown" Line of Marcel Dionne, Charlie Simmer and Dave Taylor...they were great!

Anyway, I am glad I am not a betting man, as I picked the Stars and the Flyers! Went with my heart rather than my head!

The finals matchup will be better for ratings, I suppose. Go Pens!

I'll miss hockey when it's over. Then I get to go back to my mediocre White Sox!

Blessings, and a good night to all!

I used to be the ultimate Kings fans I had season tickets for years. I went in the Laker color years. I saw Luc Robitaille in his rookie season. That was when I could afford to sit six rows behind the goal. Then Gretzky came and in three years I was priced into the nosebleed section.

"The Kings have not had a great deal of success in their history, winning their division just once in 1990–91,[3] and failing to get out of the first round of the playoffs twelve times in the twenty-four seasons when they qualified for post-season play and advancing past the second round just once.[4] Indeed, the high point in Kings franchise history was when they won their conference championship for the first and only time in their history, advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals in the 1992–93 season, only to lose the series to the Montreal Canadiens in five games.[5]" Link

The team floundered after that and Gretzky was gone three years later. They never seemed to want to put a winning team on the ice after "The Great One" (as a player, not a coach) departed.

Even though he became a whiner and lost his agressiveness on the ice in his older years, that man had a gift with that puck that I was priviledged to witness firsthand. I even caught a game in Vancouver where they beat the Canucks 6-1. A great night to be rooting for the visiting team.

I remember one game where he threaded the puck over one forward's stick and under the defenseman's from just inside the blue line right on the tape of someone just on the side of the goal for the most awesome assist I ever saw in my life.

I hear you. I used to go to about 4-6 Blackhawk games a year at the old Chicago Stadium ( back when my wife worked and we didn't have kids yet!)...once they moved to the United Center, they priced me out! Not to mention they then put a terrible product on the ice and seemed uninterested in the fans.

Of course, having kids and less money has something to do with it as well!

What you mean the kids can't go without clothes, food or medical care to help feed our hockey and (in your case) baseball obssessions? Where are our priorities?

My priorities are often misplaced. Sad but true!

I did not like the black and silver Kings unis and I'm not crazy about the current look. But that purple and gold....one of my favorite uniforms of all time!

Were you in attendance during that famous playoff comeback against the Oilers circa 1982?..the one when they were down 5-0 in the third period and came back to win it? Was it Bernie Nicholls who scored the winning goal?

I had hockey cards back in the day dating back to the '60s. Some of the Kings cards I had included "Cowboy" Bill Flett, Eddie Joyal, Juha Widing, Butch Goring, Rogie Vachon, Bob Pulford etc.....

...and being a California native, do you remember the late lamented Oakland Seals (later the California Golden Seals)...I remember staying up late watching the Blackhawks play the Kings and Seals on WGN way back in the day.

Oh well, just reminiscing a bit.

Maybe the Stars and Flyers will rebound and win four straight! I hope they win a few games just to keep things interesting.

I wish I was at that game but was still a senior in high school and my dad was not a hockey fan. (Baseball - KC Royals) I saw the highlights on the 11 o'clock news.

Steve Bozek scored the tying goal. Daryl Evans scored the game winner. Daryl Evans owns a car dealership now. A lot of the Oilers on that team ended up in Kings uniforms years later including the goalie that let in that winning goal (or losing goal, if you were an Oiler fan).

Win 4 straight?! I guess as Christians we definitely believe in miracles!

BTW, I do remember the Oakland Seals and their circus seal logo.

Yes, indeed, four straight! In the spirit of the 1942 Maple Leafs, 1975 Islanders and the 2004 Red Sox!

I know that the Flyers are pretty banged up, but I think the biggest obstacle to being down 3-0 is psychological. Seeing the Stars in their green and gold brings up memories of the old Minnesota North Stars and their once fierce rivalry with the Blackhawks...as for these current Stars, they seem to be running out of gas against a superior opponent.

It probably won't happen in either series (4 straight, that is), but I can dream!

Meanwhile, on the local hockey scene, the AHL Wolves just beat the Rockford Ice Hogs in Game 7 of their series, and are moving on to the conference finals! Bedlam in the streets of Rosemont, Illinois!

...and the Blackhawks, after all the fan-friendly things they did this year to get the fans back, they just raised the price of season ticket plans 85%!! So much for good will! Shades of "Dollar Bill" Wirtz!

Final: Stars 3, Red Wings 1

On the comeback trail with the Dallas Stars! One down, three to go!

Now if they can just steal Game 5 in Detroit, win convincingly at home in Game 6...and then pull off a stunner in Game 7 (all the pressure on the Wings at that point)....

This is where you learn how big a word "IF" is !

Actually, I want these series to go a little longer. I get to see more hockey!

Blessings and good night from the unrealistic yet optimistic Blind Lemon...

You never know Lemon. I saw the 8th place Kings knock off the President's Trophy winning Wings in the first round once. Sometimes, winning that trophy is like a jinx to a team.

In hockey, all things are possible. Almost sounds like a Scripture quote!
