I could not do it. Many moms must work outside the home and then be MOTHERS. That says it all! My kids don't want me doing some of the things she does because I can't. She is good at what she does and a majority of the time she doesn't stop until bedtime. In my opinion, life as we know it would cease to exist if not for mothers. My mother is in the midpoint stages of alzheimers and she is doing remarkably well. This was not so last year when due to a bad mix of medication, she became extremely dehydrated and almost died. When I was much younger, I had big dreams of doing very well in business and spoiling mom and dad with lots of money and things. I wanted to give back because they were always so giving and loving but things did not turn out the way I planned. Dad is her sole care-giver and is constantly in pain due to a degenerative spine. However, they are so much in love with each other it still suprises me sometimes. They are very happy. I thank God that I had a mom like her and I know that He will care for her in a way none of us can. She always tells me how proud she is of me and I guess being that kind of son is better for her than any material thing I could have given her. How about your mom?

My Mom is maturing nicely. Thanx for asking, Walker. Like your's my Mom's priority was raising us kids to become adult and productive citizens of the world and, by the large, she was(and continues to be)successful.

Ohhh... Those were very nice things that you said... and yes, I am sure she is very proud of you. and you're right, material things cannot compare to the eternal. My mom was different. She grew up in a tough era under the tough rule of my Catholic Scottish Grandmother. She became what she undoubtedly hated.... sad to say. She was strict and tough.... and didn't have much time for "nonsense." The biggest lesson I learned from her is;... I learned that I did not want to be that way. On the lighter side... she could bake and sew like nobodys business... and she taught me the same. (I also learned a lot of crazy old wives tales and odd sayings.) As she lay dying in her hospital room 10 years ago, I asked her if she would finally like to ask Jesus to come into her heart... she did. She prayed the prayer. My mother is human like the rest of us. The good and the bad. She gave a lot to us kids. She was the housekeeper and she helped dad on the farm. She did the books and helped at church. A good cook taught by my dad's mom.She was only 17 when she married my dad. Even the bad has a good side. My mom wears her heart on her sleeve...what she thinks, you know. A very direct tempermental irish woman that we all had respect for. She turns 70 next month. Always having been a larger lady, she has developed some leg and foot problems and needs help getting around some....not that she likes to be waited on...except by dad. My dad never did much housework or cooking but he does now. My brother makes artificial legs and braces, orthotist, and he has helped her out a lot with special shoes.

My Mom is one of the hardest workers of anyone I know! When I was growing up, she not only took care of us three kids and my Dad, she also worked outside of the home, took care of three of my Grandparents, cut the grass, wallpapered and painted the house, waxed the floors, moved the furnature every week or so, cooked excellant meals on a very meager budget, canned her own food, kept a spotless home, and she was also the best nurse when you were sick! When my Mom walks into a store, she knows many people, and if someone is a stranger, she will start a conversation, and make a new friend! She also has kept many of her friends since Grade School! Etc. The older I get, the more I appreciate my Mom! I pray that my Mom knows Jesus before it's too late.

My mom is the best.She is lots of fun to be with,always so patient with me,and is my Best Friend too.I am so blessed to have her in my life.

My mum has mellowed. She was born and brought up in Malaysia - the youngest of 6 children and her mother was a very strict catholic, despite Malaysia being a predominantly muslim country. She and her 3 sisters attended convent school. She was about 12 when Malaysia was invaded by the Japanese during WW2, and even now she finds it difficult to talk about those days. One of my uncles wrote an article for a newspaper many years ago and described how they had to bow to Japanese soldiers in the street, and were reduced to searching dustbins for food to eat. Dark days. I'm sure my mum wondered where God was. On at least one occassion, my feisty grandmother, at the risk of her own life, protected her daughters from being violated by the Japanese soldiers who called at the house with only one thing on their mind. My mum married my British father at 17, just to get away from Malaysia. He was 'Protestant' but changed at her insistence to catholic in order to be married even though she had stopped attending church by this time. My upbringing was very strict, and God was not really mentioned in our house. Despite everything, there was love in abundance in our house, although it would take my maturity to realise that. However, she could never bring herself to actually say the words 'I love you son' until I pointed it out to her in a birthday card, and told her (for the first time) that I loved her. My mum has mellowed.

We had mom and dad over for lunch after church and had a great time. My mom have loved each other since they were little kids. I am witnessing are very rare love.
