Tyson just got a law suit slapped on them by other poultry companies because they advertise "no hormones or antibiotics" on their packaging, which leads consumers to believe (and effectively) that the other poultry companies' chicken contains them. And they don't. So they are being forced to remove that from their packaging.

That's a silly lawsuit! Why didn't the other companies just start putting that on their packaging too?

Our itty bitty chicken company does. Well, I don't know how itty bitty they are, I just always assumed they were local or something.

Our water is off for at least part of today. My good husband reported water seeping up in our yard, which turned out to be a water main leak, which means that they are digging huge holes in our yard and our neighbors yard (and probably will not replace the grass).

I thought Nathan would be a big kick out of all the huge earth movers that are on our street now, but he seemed frightened of them. Well, he's sleeping now, but before he didn't like them.

Strangely enough my neighbor's yard looks far, far worse. Their yard is covered with huge mounds of dirt, and mine isn't to terrible, and at least the hole is at the edge of our property. I kinda feel bad for neighbor that we even called this in.

Yes, but what would've happened if you hadn't called it in?

I slept horribly last night, so slept in this morning. As soon as my feet hit the floor, the power went out at our house (and the whole town...no idea why). It still wasn't on almost 3 hours later, so we loaded up all our fridge and freezer stuff to bring to my mom's. Didn't touch the deep freezer, so I hope that is okay. But I knew the fridge stuff wouldn't be okay much longer and couldn't bear the thought of throwing all that food away...so here we are.

Any idea why power went off?

Why are you sleeping so poorly?

I'm sorry.

____

I'm tired!! But it's ok.

So far today I've gotten dishes in dishwasher, not full enough to run but getting there. CLeaned cat hair off the stupid microfiber couch that attracts it like a magnet and cleaned some clutter up.

Kiddo is sleeping still from her morning nap and I'm just waiting for her to wake up so I can feed her and see her face!! I loves her so muches.

No idea why the power went off. No storms (though it looks and feels like it's going to t-storm sometime today) and no construction that I could see. It appeared to be the whole town, since the little store and PO were both out also, and they don't always go down when our power does. The next town over has power. My mom's is two towns away.

Sleeping poorly...heat and humidity. Fat, swollen, throbbing ankles. And heartburn. I probably could have slept through the first two, it was that last one that did me in last night because I couldn't lay down. I finally fell asleep at 3 am.

The good news...this summer and this pregnancy will NOT last forever.

Wonder if someone tripped the power plant

Does anything help the heartburn?

Dairy and TUMS were my friend. I'd take TUMS before bed and then few times through the night. bleh.

I can't stand Tums...the chalkiness. I have texture issues with food and it doesn't take much for me to gag. I took a couple Mylanta gelcaps and some milk, but they didn't help much. I think I finally fell asleep out of exhaustion. LOL

My town, the town I went through, and the town my mom lives near are all the same power company.

I get the TUMS Smooth dissolve!!!

Oh my gosh huge difference. I would gag/dry heave taking the regular kind.

The smooth ones are almost like candy they dissolve so nicely and NO chalky taste. Walmart sells the purse sized bottle if you wanted to try and not get stuck with huge bottle.

Maybe someone blew a local transformer?

So, Donna has no power, I have no water, has anyone lost their natural gas??? I'm sorry for your poor night, Donna. I hope most of your food can be saved.

After Nathan's fall I was concerned about him sleeping, but I just checked him and he did stir slightly when I went in. I think he's fine. dH got home after midnight last night, preparing for a big meeting today. I hope he can come home early today.

Hmmm...maybe I will try them. I can buy the big bottle because if I won't use them, Brian will.

Maybe...

We don't have natural gas here. But no power also means no water...that's part of the reason we had to leave the house too...there's only so many times you can potty in a potty without flushing.

All of my fridge/freezer stuff is fine now that we're at my mom's. I got it in time. I didn't touch the chest freezer at all...hopefully it'll be okay.

A deep freezer? If you don't open it, and the power isn't out for more then 24 hours, I think you'd be okay. I really don't know, and you wouldn't want to open it up to check. It's like that darn cat, you can't observe the phenomenon without changing the conditions.

(((((Ruth & Sandy))))))

Maybe the kiddoes will all take naps 'cuz there's no power and you can join them!

Ruth, It's worse on us than on them when they take a tumble like that. I wasn't sure I would survive Tanner at that age...he pretty much bled every day for a while! Sometimes his falls would just keep replaying in my head . I'm glad Nathan is okay and I hope you will let yourself off the hook...it was not your fault. ((((((Ruth))))))

Ah, but you can't help thinking, if I'd only been right behind him, I could've caught him and prevented his fall. I am not an overprotective mom by nature. I feel he should climb and explore, but when he inevitably gets hurt, I feel absolutely horrible.

Well, at least the construction noise outside isn't bothering Nathan.

Oh Donna. That's horrible! Your deep freeze should be OK. The missionary I lived with in Ethiopia had one and power outages were regular there. She kept some heavy blankets to insulate it further during outages.

But no water and no gas? Glad you have a place to go. We had bad outages last summer but we never lost water or gas. Still, it was 3 days before the electric stayed on more than 20 minutes. This summer too we had an outage for no apparent reason--the entire town, but that was only 6 or 7 hours.

Yuck, me neither. But I did discover the Rolaids soft chews when I was pregnant last time. They are GREAT! (kinda like a vanilla tootsie roll).

Actually, Chickens can have antibiotics. So advertising no antibiotics can be a differentiation between chickens. No hormones is a given. From the USDA site:

quote:

No hormones are used in the raising of chickens.

Antibiotics may be given to prevent disease and increase feed efficiency. A "withdrawal" period is required from the time antibiotics are administered before the bird can be slaughtered. This ensures that no residues are present in the bird's system. FSIS randomly samples poultry at slaughter and tests for residues. Data from this monitoring program have shown a very low percentage of residue violations.

I've been out all morning and it is so good to be home!!

You're so funny!! I just went to Bible Study and to run a couple of errands, but I sure am beat! I wonder if I need some water or food. I had brown rice for breakfast and brocoli cheese soup with a pita for lunch, so I shouldn't be too low... it's not like I forgot to eat!

Power is back on. I don't think we were without long enough to lose anything from the big freezer, and my fridge freezer got a good scrubbing out while it was nearly empty.

LOL Donna, fridge cleaning is the worst! Glad things are back on there.

I have my little BIL coming tomorrow morning so I need to tidy the house up and get his bed organised. My mum is coming up Sat for the weekend too. I just remembered I haven't got hubby a anniversary card so I better do that too!!
