Happy Anniversary to both of you and your hubby's!

Ours is coming up in August.

Today is Homeschoolers At the Park Day. It's actually sunny and dry, so we're going.

Happy Anny, Nicole & Zip! Ours was last month.

Have a wonderful day at the park, Maggie.

So, it happened...I would have never thought it....I have fallen in love with this big ole' dog we are sitting for! He is so sweet and has a sense of humor and fun. I know that sounds crazy! Dave looked at me like I had 2 heads when I told him last night! There is just something so sweet about a 20lb little girl looking up to a big furry horse-dog saying, "Hi, Tuckewrrr" and that big ole dog so gently nuzzling the top of her head.

**Rant Warning**

And not so cute, little boys pee-pee EVERYWHERE but in the bowl! I am actually considering lining the floor with piddle pads! I am getting sick of taking the seat apart just to get it clean...and don't get me started on what happens when they decide it is fun to step on their little sister's potty stool and aim through her little seat. Just one time I want to walk into their bathroom and not smell pee.....

Okay, I feel a little better now....

My housework has been slipping lately. I have so gotten off track with FlyLady. I need to pull my journal back out and get to it. Sometimes I get overwhelmed at trying to pick up & clean after everyone in this house. The kids are in training, but they are still too young to really make a dent and when I am training them it takes much longer and I am not getting anything else done. I know that investing the time in them is the right use of time and energy, but the nooks & crannies are really starting to show the neglect. And that big horse dog sheds like there is no tomorrow!!

Wow, I had no intention o dropping all that on here today...but I sure feel better!

My SIL started my nephs cleaning their own bowl at about 3 yo (under supervision) to help her out. She had to go behind them and reclean while they were still young, but they got the worst of it off and learned to aim better because it is a gross job- even to a little boy.

Can you get a maid to come in every other month to get the nooks and crannies while you are in this season?

We've been married for 14 years. It seems like forever in some ways (in a good way) and in some ways I can't believe it's been so long. I still feel young and in love.

in our house we don't allow boys to stand if they are going to abuse that.....they have to sit just like girls until they are old enough to not get pee everywhere.
and my 3yo's daily job when I clean the bathroom is to wipe down the toilet and her potty seat, so I know that's not too much for a 3yo to do (with supervision)!!!

I didn't get all that I wanted to do done yesterday because Jack decided to scream and throw a fit for nearly an hour and a half before his nap.....then as soon as he went to sleep from shear exhaustion Justice woke up.....so I only got done the stuff I did yesterday morning.

My boys are something of a handful...a jubilant handful, but nevertheless...cleaning the potty is fun, fun, fun to them and it sure doen't get any cleaner and they get, well, germie-yuck-gross-me-out-to-even-think-about-it. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make swishing not so fun?

I would love to find a maid that would actually do the nooks and crannies, but all I have ever had don't touch that part and honestly don't do as good a job as I do on everything else. I guess that's okay, since it isn't in our budget at the moment.

my kids don't swish...I do that part of the cleaning....they are allowed to put on a purple glove and get a cleaning wipe and wipe down the surface of the toilet only. If they are caught playing in the toilet then they get a spanking. We don't spank for much, but for that we do (because I have major aversions to bathroom germs).

SIL made them wear gloves which communicates "this is gross" like nothing else will. She also cracked down for inappropriate play... they could be jubilant while they cleaned (although they weren't,) but were not allowed to make the job worse and spread germs in their playfulness. She supervised the entire time, so she was able to be consistent in cracking down if they started splashing the toilet water out pf the bowl or wiping their gross hands on other stuff (like clean towels.)

Hi ladies,

I'm wiped. Akeelah has an ear infection. Yesterday her temp was up to 105 so I took her to the walk in clinic across the street. I'm worried - not about this ear infection, because her temp is back down and she's feeling much better, but about more. As a baby I had very bad chronic ear infections - ones that would last 6 weeks at a time, at least 4 times a year. My temp would get so high my mom would have to rush me to the hospital. I'm worried that Akeelah will end up the same way.

Anyways, she was up so much last night. I never had to get up with her that much when we were breastfeeding! But she is happy this morning. Hopefully I can get a little more caffeine in me and feel the same way!

Have a wonderful day (hopefully I'll get time to read over the last few days here.)

I have my own version of 'flylady' style bathroom cleaning. For my daily routine, I put regular toilet bowl cleaner in the toilet bowl when I begin the bathroom. Then I flush at the end of the routine. I only swish a few times per month. I figure 5 minutes of cleaner every day prevents major germ growth even if I don't put the brush in there and scrub daily.

Great advise, girls, thanks! I guess I will have to go get gloves. I always found them to be kind of yucky, but they certainly seem like the better alternative to the kiddoes.

Prudent, I use a blue tablet. Do you think adding cleaner everyday would no more than that does? I also wipe everything down several times a day...I would just like to get to the point that just a few times a day I could walk into the room and have it still be clean!

You could try just using the tablet and not swishing. After a week, poke your head in the bowl (not really IN it, but far enough down that you can see under the rim). If it shines, just assume you're doing good enough and only need to swish 3-4x per month.

In your situation, with boys, I would think wiping the top of the rim and the floor surrounding the toilet would be more important. There are probably more germs in those locations because the urine sits there. In the bowl, it gets flushed away.

I get disposable gloves.....I can't stand the ones that you keep!!!!! As far as bowl cleaners...I have a disposable head toilet bowl brush with cleaner in it ...I like that you throw it away after using it (again, I am weird when it comes to bathroom germs...I sooooo want to throw the plunger away after every use, but that wouldn't be so good....if only they made disposable plungers!!!). The sink I keep clean all day by wiping it down when I wash my hands after using the bathroom.....keeps up on things easily and takes all of about 30 seconds since I am in there anyway. You could keep a roll of paper towels under the sink or in the cabinet for such jobs if you wanted to.

I'm like you, Sarah, I have paper towels, disposable cleaning heads, flushable wipes and I wipe each visit. One would think that would keep ahead of the boys.... I think I will make an effort to use their bathroom more myself, maybe that will help.

I just read your post somewhere else about dogs...HA! You must have cringes at my post here, LOL!

Jen, how old are the boys in question? My boys (8 and 7) clean my bathrooms on a regular basis, and have been since they were 5 and 4. I refuse to clean the mess THEY make. They have been known to mess around, but I have also been known to bring a chair in the bathroom and do a sudoku puzzle while giving step by step directions until it's done the way I want it.

Lexie, I hope this is a one time thing and she doesn't get any more. I have a "fever and rash" kid, so I know what you mean...every time she gets sick with ANYthing, she gets a really high fever and a rash all over her. It's just how her body deals.

Sarah has some really good ideas! My boy is to young for the potty, but I'm gonna be keeping this all in mind.

I'm two steps away from calling in back up. dH is busy at work, and mom is an hour away, but I could barely stand up while preparing Nathan's lunch. Thankfully he's napping now, but if I'm still this bad when he wakes up, I might call someone. Nathan let me rest on the couch after his lunch but before nap, but that might not work all afternoon.

We even watched "Word World" this morning, and Nathan seemed to like it. Also Nathan blew off some energy at gym class, so that was nice. It's even a good day for a walk, but I don't think I'll try that.

Tanner is 5 and Jackson is 4. I am willing to give cleaning a try, but I don't think it will work as a deterrent but rather a reward. God bless 'em, they enjoy everything, even punishment, lol.

I took the seat off and there was urine puddled under the screw caps. EEEWWWWW! I am considering leaving it off and making them do the other business in my bathroom! They all helped wipe everything down and I tried to have a talk with them about cleanliness and it just goes in one ear and out the other. I spend more time telling them to stand still and look at me then actually having a conversation. I work really hard at keeping my cool. It's hard.

If you haven't seen my post in Gen Mom's thread, I would love for you all to go on over and help me out.

One tip if you have them clean the toilet...don't have them do it at the same time. Do it at a time when you can sit on the edge of the tub or whatever, and give step by step directions to the ONE kid and not have to worry about what the others are destroying (probably have to wait for Dad to be home for this...). The next day or next time it needs doing, do the same thing with the other boy. Keep supervising like that until you are sure they know what you expect and are capable of doing it.

Oh yeah, and I don't have the boys clean inside the bowl at all, so they have no reason to even touch the water. They focus on the rim, lids, and the floor around the potty.

Lexie, I don't know how your family feels about this, but my nephew had chronic ear infections when he was about that age, and my SIL took him to the Chiropractor a couple times for treatment, and it really cleared them up. There is something in there that if it's out of alignment, it can get clogged up. Is that an option for you guys? Just suggesting it for her. Chase's nasal congestion seemed to clear up after we took him, and my nephew has had barely any trouble with ear infections since (he's 7 now)

That's a suggestion I have thought about Yolanda. Right now it's not on our radar for two reasons - one I don't know if it's covered under OHIP, and two we're not sure if this is a one time thing or chronic. If it is chronic we'll look into it. My mom said that when I was a kid they took me to tons of specialists and no one could figure out what the problem was.

I'm wondering if she got it from this. The baby I look after on Mon. and Tues, had a fever on the weekend. The mom showed up on Monday morning and as she is handing her to me mentions the fever but that is gone. Well, the baby was lethargic the whole day, and I mentioned it to the mom but she just let it pass. That night Akeelah woke up really hot and the next day her fever was 103. I mentioned it to the mom, and she said her daughter was over hers. But when she brought her on Tuesday, I took the baby's temperature and it was 102.

I know that Akeelah couldn't have gotten an ear infection from the baby, but I'm wondering if she picked up a virus, and then because we went swimming that night and Akeelah was under water, that maybe that's what caused the ear infection (I'm no doctor so I could be way off.) That's the only explanation to me. Akeelah has never been sick before.

I sent an email to the mom telling her that I had to take Akeelah to the walk in because her fever was so high, and that she has an ear infection. I haven't heard from her since, which isn't common. I wonder if she is avoiding me now. I don't think she bothered to take her daughter's temperature at all so she didn't know how bad it really was.

Lexie ... chiropractic isn't covered by OHIP -- unless it is ordered as part of a discharge management plan after hospitalization (such as when I had a severe back injury which required being in traction)

That being said, quite often chiropractors charge a small fee for kids, compared to the regular adult rate (one of our really good chiros charges $5 per visit for kids and students)

Hope lil Akeelah starts feeling better soon ... kids under the weather, especially in the summer ... really hoovers!!!
