walkin2e -> Cussed Out (5/14/2008 7:24:15 AM)

Have you ever been cussed out while preaching? I have, several times. This happened at the Nursing Home on Sunday. I was preaching on Jer Chapter 17 and Matthew Chapter 22 verses 1-14). I was inspired by this episode to write this poem:

Cussed Out

Sunday I was cussed out while preaching the word
It was some of the foulest language I've ever heard
The old woman that Satan used was shaking her fist
As she took God's name in vain do you get my gist

Shut up or I will kill you she loudly said
Her mean words went right over my head
I continued to praise Jesus by singing a song
And God sent deliverance before very long

As the presence of the Holy Spirit began to flow
A woman laying by the cussing lady began to glow
Jesus touched her with a sweet message of hope
And gave her extra grace and strength to cope

Satan tried to prevent a great moment of glory
As I preached about the good old gospel story
All the wicked cussing and threatening of my life
Goes to show you that Satan tries to stir up strife

He tries to stop the word of God from being spoken
To needful souls who are burdened and heart broken
But once again victory in Jesus was won
And one more sermon was finished and done

I'm glad you didn't let her stop you, and I'm sure the others were glad too. If that woman spoke that way to you I hate to think what those poor people are surrounded with daily. Sad. I pray she comes to know the Truth before it's too late.

God bless you for that ministry!

Beautiful poem and God bless you.

Sad, but you are brave, and not to mention creative. Who knows you keep preaching and maybe she will be saved. No never been cussed out, teach little ones, but who knows it could happen.

Senior dementia is a terrible thing. Even the most pious person can react in terrible ways when the circuits of the brain begin to misfire. My wife's grandfather was a country preacher & very gentle person who in his later days after a stroke could cuss like a sailor quite liberally with some good imagination as well.

Walkin2e - glad you did the right thing & kept on talking. That's about all you can really do.

(1Co 1:18) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Great poem.
Keep up the Good Word!

When I speak at the nursing home I sometimes wonder how many times some of the people have heard the word of His Hope over the years, and just let it slip away...

It is sad to see many near the end of this race still so hostile to the Truth.

Then there are the saints that are ready! I will speak at the funeral for one such person this Friday, she passed from her bed of pain to a street of gold yesterday!

Whenever I see your name, I look to see what pearls of wisdom you have to share, or uplifting story.

Love the poem and the story behine it. Please keep sharing the times you spend at the nuring home.

And to answer your question, no I've never been cussed out teaching children or sometimes women. But I was "yelled at" (no cussing) by a pastor once. [:(] Does that count?

God Bless, walkin2e. [:)]

Since this event happened, I've been back to the nursing home a few times. The same lady who "cussed" me out, sits there quietly, listening to every word, smiles, shakes my hand, and has a look of peace about her. I do believe the Lord has touched her. Thanks for your comments and prayers.

You have to remember that when you are at a nursing home, you are dealing with many people who are very elderly, senile, and suffering from things like dementia and Alzheimer's (though not all). Some elderly
persons' minds are going through decline, and so they will most likely say and shout things right off the bat that they would not otherwise ordinarily say, due to their condition. It is NOT "Satan" trying to interrupt your message, you are dealing with people who have special needs and must be cared for.

I don't know, but I'm not sure if a nursing home is the best place for a hellfire and brimstone message.

I would think it would be the ideal place considering that most there are in the final stages of their lives. Would you rather they did not hear the Truth of God's Word and spend their eternity in hell?

16 "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes:" -Romans 1

2 "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction." II Timothy 4

You go, Irvin! Keep on keepin' on for the love of Christ and the desire that none would perish! Oh, that there were more like you!

I agree that there are a lot of people in nursing homes that have dementia, Alzheimer's, or have suffered a stroke, may have other problems that can make them act and say things they never would if they were in they're right minds. If this was satan at work or came from one of these illnesses we will never know. One thing for sure, is that satan can use it to disrupt people hearing and responding to the work of God.

Father, thank You for walkin2e's, service to You in bring Your word to this often forgotten population. Help him, protect him, and bless him as he continues Your work. In Jesus name we ask, and give all the praise and the glory to You. Amen

I've been preaching for over 20 years, and I have often encountered opposition from Satan. Once, a guy came at me with a lead pipe, said "I-m going to kill you blanketly, blank". I said, "Stop in the name of Jesus"..He stopped, I quoted some scripture, then I prayed for him. This happened on a country road with no one around. A few months later, I talked to him some more, prayed for him, and in a few weeks he was killed in a traffic accident. He was 56.

I was once cussed out, knocked down in a grocery store...while minding my own business. Later, I talked to and prayed for this guy.

Yes, many older people have the need of care and compassion, and most of my nursing home services are tender. However, the Lord gives me the message, and when the message is on "where will you spend your eternal destiny, I have to preach it". And, SATAN does not like it.

I once had a dream where I was preaching to a crowd of folks...I looked behind me, and there was a deep, dark, bottomless pit. I was standing on the brink of the pit, facing the crowd, my arms outstretched, preaching Jesus. As I preached, an old woman in a wheelchair started to fall in the pit. I grabbed the chair by the wheel, and held her safely. I woke from the dream, and the Lord spoke to me and said, "That crowd represents the multitude that is rushing headlong into the pit, and the old lady was one of those nursing home residents who was saved at the last minute...keep on preaching".

The Lord once sent me to a hospital, told me to go in a certain room, and pray for the patient. I entered the room (didn't know the elderly man), and told his sister that the Lord sent me to pray for her brother. She broke out praising the Lord, the man began to thrash about, cussing, I felt the presence of evil (the hair of my flesh stood upJob 4 verse 15), I rebuked the evil in the name of Jesus, and prayed for this man's soul. The next day he died but later I saw his sister, and she told me after I prayed, and left, he was at peace.

Yes, Satan goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. And hhe hates preachers who are spirit filled, and preaching messages from the Lord.

The only time I have ever been cussed out while engaged in ministry was on a "Christian" web site..."theooze.com." Some guy launched into a verbal tirade filled with "f" words and virtually every other form of vulgar language he could spell; all to take issue with something I didn't even say.

maddog4god -> RE: Cussed Out (5/29/2008 6:41:18 AM)

I can't believe this was posted here, this JUST happened to me :D

I had gone to the dementia unit earlier then everyone else to set up - give out song books etc.

One lady asked me what we were doing, I said having church.

She said, where's the preacher.

I said, I'm the preacher

she said, well, what the <blank> are you going to preach about.

I said, just wait and see.

It does happen there from time to time.

They don't remember it or realize it's wrong.

I know many of them are christians because they can sing the whole hymns with no books (Or at least they must have attended church).

I don't preach so much as read the word over them as much as possible.

I wasn't offended :D

walkin2e -> RE: Cussed Out (6/3/2008 6:02:19 PM)

This past Sunday, that particular woman was present. She was quiet, and on my way out, she asked me to pray for her. Praise the Lord.

When I arrived, one of the nurses greeted me, and said, "You might want to cancel because we have no electricity except the emergency generator lights". I replied, "No, we are still gonna have church". I went into the little room where several were gathered, and began to sing "Victory in Jesus" and "Where Could I Go"...Suddenly, the lights came on, and Darryl (one of the residents) said, "Praise the Lord, we can have music now!"...and we did.

I preached on Balaam and his trusty donkey, and then read the scripture about what happened to Jezebel, the wicked woman who tried to kill poor ole Elijah. (2 Kings 9 verses 30-37)

We certainly had an old fashioned meeting.

Bless you walkin2e!

If you speak/teach/preach truth, the powers of darkness will notice and fight back. Glad to hear that you're challenging the darkness. It is getting darker all the time. But Jesus is going to return and then we will all rejoice together. Yes, He is the Victory and satan has been defeated. But he still squaks when he hears truth. It's a compliment to you. Bless ya, bro![:)] LL
