What attributes make a good boss?

To me, a good boss is someone who:

- gives constructive criticism when needed, without belittling
- encourages you to better yourself and be yourself
- allows you to do the job you were hired to do (overseeing without micromanaging)

Those are the items that I think of first.

I have worked for 2 really awesome people.

What made them great is that they knew I would get bored without some kind of variety, so they gave me many different things to do. (But they recognized and let me rise to my potential).

They gave me contructive input so I could better myself.

Actually liked me, and were interested in my life and concerned about things when they happened to me or my family.

Always supporting me and had my back. He would always support what I did and if it was wrong, he would take the blame and then work with me on how to do things right. Very rare in a person.

I agree with this, I will also add someone who deals with and stays on top of procedures, benefits, getting back to you in a reasonable amount of time, plus will have an open door policy and deal with any "problems" efficiently that may occur as well.

And oh yes, communicates effectively also!

Most of my bosses were sadly lousy folks. I rarely had a boss or supervisor who liked me (mostly women). I am saddened to say that the moment they sensed that I was Christian, they simply did Not like me, perhaps bc they saw Jesus in me and did not like HIM. Too bad, I can't force folks to love Jesus. [:o]

The only exception to the rule were two places where I worked and my bosses admired and liked me and would even strike up a social conversation with me. [8|]

The sad thing is the kind fellow bosses happened to be Jews; whereas the bad and nasty ones were Christians, mind you nominal Christians; yet they hated Jesus more than the Jews. Isn't that dramatic?!? [:'(][;)]

Bottom line is a good boss is someone who is humble as opposed to arrogant. There is nothing more awful than having an arrogant boss or co-workers. I can't stand conceited people. They turn me off. [:'(]
