Emily- what stinkers! Just try to focus on you and YOUR family, not theirs. Perhaps they feel that if they go out of town it means you will go early...or really...really...late

((Em)) I'm sorry that they don't seem to be excited and appear to not care about the due date - that definitely stinks!

Emily that sure stinks.

BUT for me, it would be less stress to deal with them not there than it would be to have them there but not seem like they wanted to, ya know?

Whatever happens, enjoy your time with husband and babe. It will go so fast!!

That's for sure, Brandy!!! My little one will be 5 next week & it seems like yesterday that I was pregnant with him....

EmilyAnn--keep your chin up. You can do this...regardless of what your family does or says. Remember...this is YOUR child...not THEIRS. (Hope that comes across in the kind way I meant it...it sounds a little harsh reading it).

I didn't get any sleep last night. I finally fell asleep at 6:00 this morning and woke up at 8:30. I am exhausted, but my body doesn't seem to want to sleep.

I hear ya!! Although I'm definitely getting more sleep than 2.5 hours per night, I'm constantly wired when I go to sleep and wake up frequently ... a couple nights ago I was laying staring at the wall for 1.5 hours. Completely wide awake. Stupid hormones!!

Emily, how did she check for engagement?

I am going to ask on wednesday if this little one is close or engaged but am curious how they will check. So far it's just been external palpation of where her head and bottom are.

Anything changing for you? New symptoms? Signs?

My girls are filling up and super tender. Fun to get elbowed in for sure.

She felt from the outside. She said she couldn't be 100% sure that way, but was pretty sure. She said his head was really low and she couldn't make it bounce up like she could before. (or something like that)

No new symptoms except not being able to sleep. I have been staying up all night and not falling asleep until 4 or 5 in the morning and napping off and on throughout the day. I can't sleep at all between 10 and 4 at night when normal people sleep.

The hip pain (especially my left hip) and lower back pain are getting worse each day.

So is my hip/back pain, I'm using my pregnancy pillow and another one to add in the thickness between my knees to try to help.

I wonder then if this girl is engaged at least part way. two weeks ago she was "floating" and last week she was "good and down". Why oh why didn't I ask for clarification? I will this week though for sure.

I want to say when she said bouncing to you she may have meant the head was still floating and not locking into your pelvis. Weird word though, floating. I mean, hasn't the baby always been floating?

Are you using a heating pad for the pain? Mine helps some. It really helps to get on my birthing ball and just rock/roll around. Seems to use those ligaments for good stretching.

BUT, guess what.. ALMOST THERE!!!!

Emily - a warm soak in the bathtub would usually always work wonders on me toward the end of my pregnancy when I couldn't sleep. If nothing else I could atleast lay there without getting uncomfortable and be relaxed.

I would definitely try a warm bath and a half a glass of wine.

I finally got a little sleep from 6:30-9:00. I can't take a bath because I can't get in/out of it without a lot of help from Chris. I do not drink wine, so I can't try that. I tried benadryl once and it didn't help me sleep, it just made me a zombie all day. The idea of drinking warm milk makes me . I don't even like cold milk unless it is chocolate. I don't drink any caffeine. I have tried chamomile tea but I thought it was gross and it didn't help me sleep. I think the only thing that will help is having this baby. At least then I will get some sleep. I am so tired/miserable/cranky these days that I don't even want to be around myself. I don't know how Chris is being so patient with me (maybe because he gets 8 hours of sleep at night) but I am glad he is.

benadryl?

I've read that it's not advisable in the 3rd trimester.

That is rough. What did the Dr say at your last appt?

What is causing you not to be able to sleep? Just the position of the baby? Or is it hard lying down?

Can you find a link that says that, Manda? It's on my doctor's okay list all the way through and I can't find anything that says it isn't okay on an occasional basis.

I've actually found a few places on that say Class B and to avoid in 3rd trimester as can cause uterine contractions.

My midwife said was ok to take though and I took some last night.

There is also a concern according to USPharmacist that Benadryl can cause cleft lips and polydatcyly:

Chlorpheniramine, clemastine, diphenhydramine, and loratadine are considered pregnancy category B. Brompheniramine and triprolidine are pregnancy category C. The most common concerns about antihistamine use in pregnancy are cleft palate (loratadine and diphenhydramine), polydactyly (diphenhydramine), retrolental fibroplasias, and uterine contractions (diphenhydramine).22 A cause-and-effect relationship for cleft palate and polydactyly could not be established due to small sample sizes. An association was found between antihistamine use in the last two weeks of pregnancy and an increased risk of retrolental fibroplasia. 23 When used in the third trimester, high-dose diphenhydramine may have oxytocic properties. This may cause
uterine contractions. Due to lack of information and some theoretical risk, antihistamines should be avoided in the late stages of pregnancy.

Add this to my list to talk to midwife about tomorrow.

Well, the cleft lip and polydactyl would have to be caused in the first trimester, as that is when those parts are formed. As for uterine contractions...if you're term anyway...

I have yet to find any drug a class A for pregnancy, at least not any I have looked up. So B would not phase me either.
