skt2emerica -> alittle advice (5/19/2008 8:40:34 PM)

hey, so here's my situation. I've really grown to like a girl that i'v been friends with, but pretty sure she doesnt feel the same way. God gave me a conformation that i should not let the relationship go, but it seems like the longer i wait and hold on to the relationship, the more it hurts and feels like there is no hope. Its constantly on my mind and sometimes it feels like it would be for the better to just part and go our seperate ways, but i can't let go of the confirmation that He gave me. I've been praying about it alot lately, but dont really feel God speaking to me and i havent really felt the joy in Christ that i used to. any advice?

How do you know that God gave you the confirmation??? If you aren't at peace or feeling the joy you once did, I'd say that's a pretty good sign that your "sign" was not from God.

If the relationship is meant to be, it will happen. But maybe not for a long time. I suggest that you let it go and get on with life.

Sometimes that sense of "confirmation" means that God loves you, and has a satisfying relationship planned for your future.

Many headstrong individuals are the ones who write the name of the person they are currently interested in into the 'blank' of God's very real but slightly less specific "confirmation".

I've got to know what the "confirmation" God gave you was before I can respond. How confident are you it came from Him?

If you are confident He has told you not to pursue the relationship, you need to obey Him.

Ditto Creationtalk...(and ChoirDJ gives Creationtalk a high 5). I'm always leery about the situation when some claims to have received a "sign" from the Lord. I know someone who said that once about a former boyfriend who got her pregnant and then virutally abandoned her and the child. She said God "told" her to help him by letting him move in to her place when he didn't have a place to go. She ended up getting pregnant again and...you've guessed it, he dropped out of the picture again.

There have been many times when I've thought God was telling me one thing, and on further reflection learned that He was trying to point me in a different direction altogether. God never wants us to be unhappy.

You asked for advice. I'd say, continue to pray about it, but put your focus on other things. It sounds to me that because you like this girl, and she doesn't like you back, that this is interfering with your joy in Christ because possibly you are pining for her. Instead, pray, ask God to give you some perspective on the situation, pray for her welfare, for her future mate (whomever that may be) and let go - in the sense of let go and let God. When you pray, tell God of your situation, how you feel, and just commit everything in His hands.

Move on with the Lord and allow Him to do a work in this situation...
don't become wrapped up in something that's distracting you from
doing all that the Lord lays upon your heart and robs you of his Joy.

hey guys, thanks for responding so fast and being so helpful, i wasnt expecting this many people to answer in a day. so there was a couple of conformations actually. the first one was when i was really seeking out what God wanted me to do and was praying that he would give me a straight answer if he wanted me to continue to persue the relationship. when i opened my eyes from the prayer a little card on my desk caught my attention because it said "straight answer" so i thought that was a conformation. the next day i asked God for another conformation to be sure while i was at my bro's baseball game.(her brother plays baseball with mine, and sometimes she shows up to watch the game) anyways, not knowing if she was there or not, i asked God to have her come up and talk to me before i left and to let that be the conformation to let me know what i should do. towards the end of the game, i turned around and saw her walking up behind me. i was like in aw that she was actually there because i was honestly doubting that it would happen. after that i was convinced that this was what God wanted me to do.

Please excuse my flippant response, but it's the same idea. Some guy was praying about what God wanted him to do and just opened the Bible and put his finger down on the page, and read the verse there: "Judas went out and hanged himself." Then the guy flipped some pages, put his finger down and looked at the verse there and it said: "Go ye and do likewise."

You have to be careful about what is a sign from God. Using circumstances is really iffy, but understanding God's Word (in whole, not a random verse!) gives good direction that you can trust.

If this girl is for you and God is going to give her to you, you can go about your life and God will deliver her to you with no effort on your part. She can't get away from God's will.

So you are safe to stand back and let the chips fall where they may. If you aren't ready to marry (education finished, career in place and enough income to support a family, just for starters) then God isn't probably going to give her to you now, but she'll be there later. Isn't that a relief?!

Ditto! Though I am not saying this is the case, it's very easy and tempting to see coincidences as God speaking to us. When He speaks to us regarding relationships, it's usually confirmation to both people.

ya i know things don't happen on my time but Gods. and im only 17 years old now, so u know what our mindsets are like lol. but ya, it was just that when she walked up, God felt so real and personalized almost like he was sitting right next to me u know? i was so on fire for Him that i thought that that had to be what he was telling me..especially since i was praying for such a direct answer.hmm maybe He's putting me through this because he wants me to put all trust and faith in him. maybe that conformation to persue the relationship meant that i shouldnt just stop talking to her or w/e but completely give the situation to him. idk i have trouble discering God's voice sometimes, so its hard.
