I loved it!!

Wall-E

Good film, not a lot of dialog from Wall-E and Eve. Might be hard for younger kids to fully understand this. But overall a good film.

There's another thread on this movie already ongoing so I'll not say more here.

Wanted

Well, I WANTED to see this film because I really liked Night Watch and WANTED to see the director's move to American films. Also, the film had gotten some good reviews among SF&F fans and the cast seemed good (not a big fan of Angelena Jolie, but she did seem a good choice for the role).

I dunno. I have such mixed feelings about this film. I would have really preferred they remove the frequent use of the F-word and cut down the level of the violence and go for a solid PG-13 instead of R. The violence is really quick, and that reduces a lot of it's impact, but...(spoiler in white)...

The main character's training is really, really sadistic and takes up way too much of the film. They could have gotten the point across in about 1/4 of the time..

Some of the action sequences are really breathtaking, but I can't totally recommend the film. Wait till an edited version is shown on TNT. And maybe watch it on a big screen in HD so you can appreciate the filming/editing of those action sequences.

I saw The Other Boleyn Girl on DVD this week. Considering much of this story was also covered in The Tudors...the cast of The Tudors is much, much better. And I hope that a slightly edited version of THAT will show up sometime on PBS.

I think the primary reason behind WANTED's insane visuals is part that it's based on a graphic novel, a.k.a. comic book. And interestingly enough, I've read that this Angelenie Jolie flick is part of the official selection of The Los Angeles Film Festival: yup... this popcorn muncher is slated alongside the more higher-brow stuff of the arthouse circuit!

Must be the whole L.A. cineaste philosophy of seeing all movies--both studio and independent, within the same spotlight, provided there's context... sort of like why Turner Classic Movies have been showing lots of more recent, sometimes studio fare like Out of Africa, (George A. Romero's) The Crazies--AND the original Austin Powers movie![&:]

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (6/29/2008 11:33:36 PM)

Fools Gold with Kate Hudson and Matthew Mcconaheigh. I really wanted to like this movie since I like both of them and I enjoyed their first movie How to lose a guy.... but it was horrible. After watching the movie for 45 minutes, I just turned it off. It was just a dull and boring.

henny -> RE: I Just Saw... (6/30/2008 12:00:36 AM)

Wanted -this was really good. Surprisingly good, as I had no expectations going in and didn't even really want to see it that all that badly. It's the perfect big budget, summer, popcorn movie, and way better than the action fair that has been released thus far (Yes, even better than Iron Man). It's incredibly violent, and earns its R rating in that regard, but it's generally well directed (even if it relies a bit too much on Matrix-ish cliches), and there were touches that genuinely surprised me (In style and tone, it's actually probably closer over all to something like "Sin City" -so if you hated or loved that, it would probably be a good gauge as to whether or not you'd like this). Plus, James MacAvoy easily steals the title of Summer's "Next big thing" from Shia Lebouf's aborted attempt at it in Indiana Jones.

Get Smart. It was great!

DaveW -> RE: I Just Saw... (6/30/2008 8:23:56 AM)

Wall-E The storyline was ok, but the 3D CG was incredible.

Yankee Nut -> RE: I Just Saw... (6/30/2008 10:53:27 AM)

Got A Few For U:
Get Smart- Great Flick.
I'm Not There- Good Movie. Not a hugh Dylan fan but was still interested in it
Vantage Point- Absolutely loved it.
(One of the Benefits of my work at Blockbuster is that I can watch movies before they come out on shelves on Tuesday. Also get my movies for free)
Drillbitt Taylor- Was dissapointed in it.
Waynes World- Never saw it before and throughly loved it.
Watching the Great Debaters right now

reach -> RE: I Just Saw... (6/30/2008 12:39:40 PM)

I watched Jane Austen Book club. My friend did not like it, but I thought it was cute.

So that's where you work. I've always wondered when you're saying you're watching at work. Now it makes sense [:D]

doinkdom -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/1/2008 12:54:12 PM)

I fell into a time loop and ended up watching All About Eve with Bette Davis and a cameo from a very young Marilyn Monroe.

What a great movie!

juneteenth -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/2/2008 10:33:44 AM)

Cover
Somehow I missed it in the theaters. My students saw it. Having no knowledge of it I was a little surprised. Filmed in Philadelphia it deals with a family, moving upwards, martial relations, divorce and without giving away the entire plot .......different types of betrayal.

Glad that it kept the focus on God, forvgiveness and about forgivness including the moving away from the sin or trouble. Some people who may not watch the movie amy gain from the message of God not wanting anyone to continue in a bad relationship and how God gives us all the power to move on as well as move out.

Also add
Rendition- striking tale of what can happen with overzealousness
The List - nice adaptation of the book

Rewatched and enjoyed
The Manchurian Candidate
The Parent Trap

Actually I used to go to a day program and we watched movies in the afternoon quite a bit so that is where I watched movies at work. I have been only working at blockbuster for a couple of months

Yankee Nut -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/4/2008 5:39:17 PM)

The Great Debaters- Another Great Denzel Washington Proformance. Good Job in his first directorial debut as well I think

The Air I Breath- Good Movie

The Darjeering Limited- Pretty Good Flick

Over Her Dead Body- Cute Movie

P.S. I Love U- Didn't Think I would like it but I did

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/4/2008 5:44:40 PM)

Vantage Point- with Dennis Quaid. Fast paced movie that required paying attention. I really liked it. It's just everytime I hear Dennis Quaid's character saying the line "We've been compromised" I thought I'm hearing Jack Bauer. I thought Keifer would be great for Quaid's role but then it would be watching 24 instead.

stateofgrace -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/5/2008 9:56:10 PM)

Persepolis - loved it. Story of a young Iranian girl who lives through the revolution and then is sent to Europe by her parents. Lots of insight on what life is like for ordinary Iranians, and how much more challenging growing up ca be when you've been dropped into a compeltely different culture. This one could be a good conversation starter with older teens.

Yankee Nut -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/7/2008 12:35:52 AM)

The Condemed- Hugh Stone Cold and Wrestling fan. It was a very good movie

Shoot Em Up- Good Flick

Superhero Movie- Had it's Moments

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/7/2008 8:45:11 AM)

Be Kind Rewind- with Jack Black. I thought the movie had too many plots. Their making movies from a movie and the movie itself seems like they're winging as they go about. The final scene, I thought, should have been where the movie should have been all about but it was lost because of all the other silly stuff that was not even funny.

reach -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/7/2008 6:25:02 PM)

Wanted & Hancock.

Wanted I thought was disappointing. I expected better from these actors.

Hancock, great movie.

teaspoon61 -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/7/2008 7:16:55 PM)

If anyone saw Hancock, can you pm me with the "twist"?

Also, is it appropriate for a 13 year old? My son is really wanting to see it.

IonMoon -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/8/2008 4:48:05 PM)

The Air I Breathe- didn't care fot it. Good acting, well shot scenes... but the plot was bland.

Raising Jeffrey Dahmer- We thought it would be awful, but it was actually not bad. Possibly because I am a pscyh major. It was slow, but IMO very well made for a low budget film.

Fool's Gold- Blech! I watched the whole thing and was just bored.

Vanatge Point- Not bad. Not great. I liked the way it was filmed, but requires LOTS of suspended belief.

McGuinessMagee -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/9/2008 5:56:00 AM)

Hancock was good. I actually thought that they didn't build one of the major characters early enough, making it seem a little disjointed when that character's true importance became apparent, almost as if they'd introduced a completely new plot partway through.

No nudity, a little bit of grossness, lots of use of the word a....le, a near kiss which wasn't so crash-hot (but then they're not portraying anyone in the movie as a Christian, so I guess that judging it by Christian morals isn't fair), one half bare backside scene (no sexual reference to the scene though).

Overall I would probably let my 13yo son watch it, but he chose to watch The Hulk instead.

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/12/2008 1:34:02 PM)

Meet The Browns- another Tyler Perry movie and once again, I enjoyed it. I guess I need to start buying all of his movies. There were funny scenes that just made me laugh so hard but then there were scenes that I just so weepy. Now I fully understand what's the connection with the Browns and Madea [:D]
