My friends complained it was too "Hollywood." I've been in crazy situations like that (I'm such a hopeless romantic), so I liked it - esp. how they left it fairly open-ended.

I have hung out with a sinful, unmoralistic, rebellious, devil-may-care kind of friend before and I know that the situations those two men found themselves in are no crazier than real life and reality is always stranger than fiction. [:)]
BTW~ I like the expanded picture you have currently for your avatar. You look like a silent movie actress...
Cool!

Thanks! The extended shot is me sitting in the doorway of a tomb in a local cemetery, but I couldn't downsize the whole thing and maintain the clarity.

The more I think about it, the more I like DiG! I think I'm going to buy it for a few friends.

"Dig started off as a terrific collection of live performances but then became something much more powerful and intriguing. Through the picture, we see everything from tension between bandmates, to bitter rivalries, to violent antics during live shows to nasty drug habits. This is an intimate document of these bands - warts and all."

"In that way, Dig! works both as a cautionary tale for the industry and for musicians who think drugs, jealousy and egotism won’t get in the way of creativity. By the end, most everyone looks the fool. Newcombe is without many allies, Taylor still has label issues, and commerce won again."

There is, of course, alcohol and drug usage, profanity, and one brief shot of non-sexual nudity. IE, rock and roll! [;)]

I've had bad luck with movies about bands. I have never really enjoyed any of them except Almost Famous.

miasma -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/29/2005 3:59:18 PM)

Why not? I enjoyed Almost Famous, but it wasn't really about a band, and it was a bit sacchari -schmaltzy.

What other band movies are there...well, the Doors was pretty well done. I watched a documentary on the Stones that had some interesting bits, and one on the Who - neither are bands I listen to, much like this documentary - but, unlike those docs, this one had a story line, and wasn't just random footage.

sadiebelle -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/29/2005 6:16:03 PM)

There was some silly one with Mark Whalburg (sp) that I didn't like at all...and then there was the one about...shoot, Tom and Viv? No, maybe they were two other names, I can't think of the title. It was about the guy that fronted that popular punk band. I'm drawing a blank. That Thing You Do, with Tom Hanks, was horrid. I know there are more because I avoid them as much as possible.[:'(]

Fwanger -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/29/2005 6:41:53 PM)

I just saw the new Amityville Horror. It was terrible.

Praedulcise -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/30/2005 1:00:38 AM)

Just got back from seeing The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

...and though fans of the books might despise it (I haven't read it, yet), as a movie I found it hilarious. So there. [8D]

rynthetyn -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/30/2005 1:35:02 AM)

Well, although I didn't really want to, I just saw xXx: State of the Union, and while it might just be my extremely low expectations, I think it managed to cross over into the "so bad it's good" category. The whole thing was just so ridiculous that you just have to sit back an laugh at it all.

Seventh Day Advocate -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/30/2005 4:01:20 PM)

I just saw...

Kung Fu Hustle...good if you want a decent comedy and some cool and original kung fu fighting scenes...the story line is far from original...it has the cliche "the one" character...but don't let that deter you...Stephen Chow is wrote, produce, directed, and starred in this movie and it is amazing...and don't let the "R" rating deter you either...when I looked it up it was for "stylized violence"...in other words kung fu [:)]...all in all good movie, go see it![;)]

elocin -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/30/2005 8:08:17 PM)

Just saw Tron, in all it's 1982 splendor. [har] It was pretty good, though I think they skimped on having a thicker plot because they believed the graphics [which I liked] would carry the movie [sounds like the second & third Matrix movies] Typical 80s acting, but very imaginative.

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/30/2005 9:01:08 PM)

Thank you for some recommendations from some posters to watch 'I am David' We rented the DVD and this movie was one of the best I've seen lately. I love this movie and now been telling friends and family to rent it as well.

miasma -> RE: I Just Saw... (4/30/2005 9:24:41 PM)

Ryn.

Ryn, Ryn, Ryn. And here all this time I was paying attention to and respecting your cinematic opinions...[;)]

Amityville is good for some "jumps."

Mark Wahlberg in a movie about a punk band?? He did Rock Star, but that was about.............augh, I'm drawing a blank..............well, it wasn't a punk band. It's going to drive me crazy now! The lead singer left.....augh.

I watched a horrible movie called Exotica. Really bad. Don't bother. Back when Miramax was known for it's "indie" stuff, back when their indie stuff was just artsy-fartsy poser indie films. Horrible.

Sorry, I can't help it, it's what happens when you watch Dukes of Hazzard and Star Wars at a very young age--as a result, despite my better judgement, I'm still a sucker for movies with lots of car chases and explosions.[8|] *ducks sheepishly for the door*

XianJedi -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/1/2005 12:22:31 AM)

"Darkness"

Very, very stupid. Sure, it had it's scary moments, but no plot to speak of - it just goes nowhere.

And the "special features" on the DVD - even dumber. The "behind the scenes" is about 4 minutes long, and basically is little more than a preview of the movie.

It was as if about half-way through production, they just said, "oh, forget it" and just threw some stuff together just to finish it.

Very, very stupid.

I was actually verry mutch looking forward to seeing it today and I did and it was better then the first one. Actually had a story line!!!!!!!. What is up with Vin Deasel not doing sequals? I think he did one sequal but that its it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rynthetyn -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/1/2005 3:29:03 AM)

With Fast and the Furious, he didn't do the sequel because he wanted more money than they wanted to pay him, there isn't really word on why he didn't do this one, maybe the script was even worse before they wrote him out and wrote Ice Cube in. As it is, the sequel that he did do, Chronicles of Riddick, wasn't very good and made me nostalgic for the Cold War because sci-fi was much better when all of the bad guys were thinly veiled representations of the USSR. In that one, the bad guys were pretty clearly (at least to me) representing militant Islam in particular and militant religious extremism in general, and it just doesn't make for nearly as good a story.

nat_nat -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/1/2005 2:07:07 PM)

"guess who"
well not that funny...i will give 2.5 stars out of 5.. Aston Kutcher still cute though [;)]( too bad he's takenn [&:])

Faun_Tumnus -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/1/2005 7:11:50 PM)

Last night we watched Lemony Snickett's Series of Unfortunate Events.

[sm=car.gif][sm=car.gif][sm=car.gif] Crosswalk doesn't have any star smileys, so I'll call it a "3 Car" movie! [sm=biggrin.gif]

I really enjoyed it, thought that the visuals were beautiful - scenery, landscape, etc. I've never read the stories, but I commented to DH that was the type of story I would have loved as a kid. I did think that Jim Carrey was a bit too... well, Jim Carrey! Especially at the beginning with the "actor" troupe. The kids were great.

beachpjs -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/1/2005 10:10:29 PM)

I just watched "The Usual Suspects". I reallly enjoyed it. Kevin Spacey was outstanding in this movie. There was some violence and language. A different type of movie.

I have that DVD. Yeah, a bit heavy in the language department, but the twists in the story was well played out.. great cast...

stateofgrace -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/2/2005 8:31:46 AM)

We saw Lemony Snickett late last week too..but since my hubby was the only one who hadn't seen it before, I didn't post earlier. Hubby loved it, though, because he is a BIG Jim Carey fan. I loved the kids too. The older two are so deadpan, and the baby, LOL...the expressions they got out of her!

gambit -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/2/2005 9:09:25 AM)

I saw Kung Fu Hustle. This really could have been a PG-13 movie if they didn't use the f-word more than 2 or 3 times. It was actually really fun to watch.

gambit -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/2/2005 10:09:11 AM)

I rented The Exorcist: The Beginning. Once again, the sequel (or prequel in this case) just doesn't come close to the original. Had a couple cheap scares but overall it was lame.

Watched another flick called The Brood. This is from 1979, but it was pretty freaky and still held up rather well. Of course anything by David Cronenberg is twisted.

miasma -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/2/2005 12:50:48 PM)

I watched Friday Night Lights. It was "a football movie." Aside from being based on a true story, nothing stands out about it - not true, the sdtk. was amazing. And I'm still watching DiG!, with all the commentaries.

Fritzpw_Admin -> RE: I Just Saw... (5/2/2005 1:08:28 PM)

National Treasure

This PG rated movie comes out this week.

Really enjoyed watching it with the kids.

Fritz Score: *****
