Okay ... since I'm Kim's contact, and since she has now reached 37 weeks, I felt it was high time to start a thread to watch and catch her June Bug!

Oh yeah ... she is one of the unknowns on the list, isn't she?!!?!?! I guess I just keep thinking boy because of the bug reference ... (my friend has a little boy who has the nickname 'Bug')

Since we will be having the baby at home, we didn't pick out a special coming home outfit. Instead, I ordered a custom made cloth diaper for a "baby's first fluff" picture. LOL It should be here today!!

Dana had told me to bring outfits of multiple sizes to the hospital since we didn't know how big the baby would be. He was almost 6.5 pounds and NOTHING fit him that we brought. He was just swimming in his little clothes. BUT I picked the smallest one we had and dressed him in it for the ride home. I was exhausted and very, very ready to go home, and my DH left to pull the car up, and the nurse called transport for someone to come and get baby and me and wheel us down to meet my DH at the car. I went to put baby in his carseat (first time going in there) and was clipping the leg clips in place when I noticed BROWN on one of his socks -- yep -- baby poop on his sock! And I had no idea why it would have leaked (stupid Pampers -- I am not a fan), but I was so tired and just desperate to go home I thought "Well, I'll just "borrow" a washcloth from the hospital and cover his foot with it because WE ARE LEAVING!" By now the transport lady (about 75 years old) was there waiting for me to get him ready. Baby is screaming bloody murder, I am about to fall asleep standing there (or start bawling myself, one of the two) and I go to clip the other side of the carseat together -- MORE BROWN! Too much brown to just steal a washcloth and cover it. HE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED NOW. But I have nothing. EVERYTHING is packed in the luggage and has gone with my husband. Everything. The going-home clothes in bigger sizes. The pack of Pampers from the hospital. Even the little wash basin -- it's all GONE. I have nothing to change him into, no diapers, no extra socks. NOTHING. I take my jacket off (it's winter) and hit the call button for the nurse and practically in tears I tell her that my baby needs a diaper change and all my supplies are loaded in the car. She tells me she will tell my nurse (God bless Lisa!) who arrived in short order. I'm so tired I'm practically in a stupor now, and Lisa arrives and asks what she can do. I tell her and she leaves to go get a new pack of Pampers, some Vaseline and gauze (to cover him from his circumcision --- which had been done about 4 hours earlier). She brings all the supplies to me and I just stand there, frozen for a few seconds, and then she says "Do you want me to change him?" I think she realized I was too out of it. I said "Sure", and just stood back. Our son is just wailing this whole time, and the 75-year-old transport lady is so calmly standing outside the room with the wheelchair. I keep apologizing...she smiles and says it's no problem. Lisa changes the baby and of course there are NO clean clothes for him so she runs and gets him a little long-sleeved half-shirt and says "Just take this", and puts it on him. He left the hospital wearing that little half-shirt undershirt thing, NO SOCKS, a Pampers, and a winter coat. I did NOT take a picture of his going-home outfit. And when I put him in the carseat for transport he was FINE. We never heard a peep out of him in his ragamuffin outfit the whole way home. So our son's first outfit either qualifies as the one he blew out in or the one that was totally unfinished and dorky. (I would have called DH to bring the other outfits back upstairs to me but his back had gone out about an hour earlier thanks to concrete floors and sleeping on that pull-out thing for 2 nights and I was NOT going to have him re-park the car and walk all the way back up for us. And actually I had completely forgotten DH had his cell phone with him so I kept thinking I would have had to walk down to get him to get the bag...and they wouldn't let me leave because I was a patient.) Ah, those are some funny memories. The best laid plans, you know.... This will NOT happen with your homebirth, though, Kim! And it will be very fun to read your story about June Bug's delivery and earliest days. God bless you all. Jeanie
