...spamming my own thread...

I posted something similar over in the singles chat thread, but wanted to put it here, too...

The blog entry I promised a few days ago really belonged in the "friend or foe" thread over in singles. I was going to post it here in order to keep from stirring stuff up...but Above All posted in the thread a perfect open door (thank you God and Above All!) to my thoughts, so I put them where they belong.

My post is in the way of apology, so if you were involved in that discussion over there, I'd like you to be comforted by my apology. Please do go read it and Above All's post, too...it's great.

(I don't know how to link to a specific post...sorry)

Hi Esther! I just thought I would pop in and subscribe to your thread!

Hi Nadine! How are you today?

Hey, Mike

Welcome! Any thoughts one what our population in here ought to call ourselves?

besiderself

All that keeps going through my mind is that "Batty Bat" song from Sesame Street.

Is that one on YouTube? I don't remember it. Let's see...

Ah, yes! here it is!

I think it's kinda cute...in a dark sort of way.

besiderself

I liiiike it! I don't think it's too dark...it's Sesame Street FGS.

So....

I woke up this morning rather blue. In fact, I went to bed last night rather blue. The reasons do not matter.

This morning I found the following in my very cool and powerful Bible software (which includes many books):

Martyn Lloyd-Jones’ Advice
We must talk to ourselves instead of allowing “ourselves” to talk to us! Do your realize what that means? I suggest that the main trouble in this whole matter of spiritual depression in a sense is this, that we allow our self to talk to us instead of talking to our self.…
Most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself.…
The main art in the matter of spiritual living is to know how to handle yourself. You have to take yourself in hand, you have to address yourself, preach to yourself, question yourself. You must say to your soul: “Why art thou cast down”—what business have you to be disquieted? You must turn on yourself, upbraid yourself, condemn yourself, exhort yourself, and say to yourself: “Hope thou in God”—instead of muttering in this depressed unhappy way. And then you must go on to remind yourself of God.…*
Robert J. Morgan, Nelson's Complete Book of Stories, Illustrations, and Quotes, electronic ed., 210 (Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2000).

Ok, self. Get with the program!!

That is so very true!! And we even need God to give us the desire to get a hold of ourselves! Like sometimes I'd rather just be in a bad mood !!

Oh, yes, Sun...I am quite familiar with the attitude. Just wanting to be in a bad mood, and would rather fight than switch!
Not only am I myself sometimes tempted, but my children have all caught the disease and display symptoms at various intensities.

~~~~~
However, I did go on to have a better day, thank you for asking Nadine. Sometimes I let little things bother me too much...like the thoughtless things my children do and say that hurt my feelings. Or watching a romantic scene on a t.v. show...I really have to be careful to avoid those!!
Something you may not know about me is my interest in Astronomy. It all started with my dh introducing me to Science Fiction while we were dating. This last semester at school I knocked out my physical science requirement by taking a course in Astronomy. I found a site that will tell you exactly what constellations and planets are in the sky at exactly the time you are looking at them last night, and this morning God got me up early and I was able to spot some constellations I'd never spotted before.
Very cool.
~~~~~

Today's Chanson du jour is in honor of the "Would You Date A Hero" thread over in Singles...
Unfortunately there's not a YouTube version of it, so you can't hear it! If I find some way to put it up here today, I will. It's "I Need A Hero" by Chris Rice.

~~~~~
Just a reminder that if you haven't read Above All's post and my apology over in Friend or Foe, I'd appreciate you doing that. They are the next-to-last and last posts currently on the thread...and would someone let Sharon Marie know about that?
esther...i'm JUST now getting around to reading all your PFY. what a nice little belfry you have here!
i love your list idea...i keep my list on my cell phone scheduler. but it's such a pain to keep forwarding things...maybe i should start a list on my PFY. would it bother you if i followed your wise example? then i could just put errands and out-of-the-house stuff in my phone. that would be a time-saver!
also...i vote for bels/bats. i like keeping with the theme of your thread. and i totally agree...i have known for years God can still use me...even when i'm going thru a not-so-sane period! lol i've also been a firm believer (although not always a good implementer) of the power to control your subconcious. i cannot tell you how many times i've read about how you can redirect your own thoughts simply by 're-programming' your subconcious thru the use of repeating positive (preferrably verbal) affirmations, and simply correcting your thoughts when you find yourself being negative. this applies not only to spiritual aspects of your life, but self-image, work, sports, anything! thank you for reminding me i should be monitoring my own thoughts better...especially as i start this new phase in my life.
you are, indeed, a blessing to me, esther...batty, or not! (((esther)))
Kimberly;
Oh, please DO feel free to "follow my example" You're even free to post it here. I'm doing it to keep myself a little bit more accountable. (you'll notice that today's list is "invisible" unless you highlight it...that's so that you can choose whether to view it...it's most important to me that no one feel intimidated or that I'm bragging or whining.)
Yay! Two Votes! Tink, feel free to post the pic. But don't you have to have mod powers to do that?
Kimberly I once went through some extensive training in biblical counseling. One of the most important principles is telling yourself the (scriptural) truth!
I think one of the reasons I don't do that as often as I should is that it is hard work. Especially when life is hard, finding the "truth" and repeating it to myself in the face of evidence that seems to contradict it is a labor that my lazy self wants to avoid even at the cost of being in a bad mood or depressed.
Hmmm...so what truth do I need to tell myself about THAT problem, I wonder?
I can post a link for a pic, Esther.
That's how I 'posted' pics of Junior in the mascot thread. I'll have to wait until I get home because I can't get on photobucket from work and that's where all of my pics are.
Good Morning All!
My to-do list is way to long to post here. I should break it up in to sections so I can look at my list and think it's actually do-able. That might save me some frustration.
Oh well, it will all get done eventually.
Is it your to do list for just today, Nadine? Because that's all I post here. I have more things to do, but they are for other days or in the future, and if I need to put them down they go on paper or on Outlook.
Yes, I have Esther, I've been meaning to tell you! I LOVE IT!!
Thanks, Sun!
Alright...the following is from my bible reading this morning...
Genesis 8
6 At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he had made 7 and sent forth a raven. It went to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth. 8 Then he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters had subsided from the face of the ground. 9 But the dove found no place to set her foot, and she returned to him to the ark, for the waters were still on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her and brought her into the ark with him. 10 He waited another seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark. 11 And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth. 12 Then he waited another seven days and sent forth the dove, and she did not return to him anymore.
13 In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14 In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth had dried out. 15 Then God said to Noah, 16 “Go out from the ark, iyou and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. 17 Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth—that they may swarm on the earth, and jbe fruitful and multiply on the earth.” 18 So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him.
When I am waiting on the Lord, I can be like Noah and send out queries. Sometimes the query will come back negative…
For instance, joining eHarmony, and getting out into the social scene, and joining and attending church…those have so far come back negative for a relationship—I am surrounded and isolated as yet from potential relationships in the marriage department. But someday…someday the waters are all going to recede, and God will open the door of my ark (WHICH, btw, is put there to keep me SAFE so I don’t DROWN—not to torture me and keep me from being blessed).
This applies, I'm sure, to other areas of my life as well. I need to figure out how, exactly.
Bats?
When I worked at Haunted Mansion we had to wear "Bat Hats". PICIt was a tradition to name our Bats.
Mine's name was Squiggy... (from Laverne and Shirley)
And did one thing that was not on the list. What do you think of the new handle?
I'm glad you like it. There was some question as to whether or not it would be appropriate. It was actually FB's idea. It fits me that is for sure. Waiting not looking.
