I've been a secretary in the State Legisature (fascinating!), a lobbyist, worked in "tobacco control" (advocacy/youth education), an event planner, and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Currently I'm a group fitness instructor - but I wouldn't call what I make a "living". But I can do it when the kids are in school or, if necessary, take them with me. I'd like to be a personal trainer but don't expect to get rich doing that either. I'm basically doing it to get paid to do what I'd be doing anyway - and for the free gym memberships!

Now I'm a Stay at Home Mommy of two! My Joel has held the following jobs: - Sold shoes; vacuum cleaners; dry cleaner attendant; flower delivery person as a teenager - US Army Infantry/Ranger 4 years - Security Guard 2 years while going to junior college - Accounting clerk for a construction sub-contractor almost 2 years - Youth director for our church in CA for 9 months before we moved to NJ (while he finished his degree at university) He's currently an Economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics and has had this job for the last 6 years. He's hoping to go back to school soon (possibly this fall) to get his Master's Degree in the hopes that once he retires from Gov't. work he'll be able to teach Economics at the college level.

I am a secretary working at an FAA Center. I have worked there for 20 years. I really love my job and the people I work with. Our building is on the base of an airport, so we hear the planes taking off and see them up close. Every day is different and I am always very busy, so most of the time the day just flies by. It is nice having a Government job, with the benefits, stability and security. I am very thankful.

I'm a RN in a post-partum/L&D unit. Before this I worked in a neurological intensive care unit. Before being a nurse I was an assistant in a NICU, a waitress, a Starbuck's barista, babysitter, lifeguard, Old Navy/Gap employee. :) My husband has a videography business where he mostly films weddings. He's also writing a book. He also does wine-tasting tours at a local vineyard. He's finishing a seminary degree. Cool thread!

I have been an academic advisor at a local college for the past 1.5 years. Before that I was in recruiting/admisions for another local college for 6 years, I was also an event coordinator for one year there. Right out of college I worked as an education center coordinator for Keller (DeVry). My husband is an engineer at Harley Davidson.

I grew up on a farm, so my first job was "farm laborer". In college, I worked in customer service at the "Oriental Express" in a grocery store, did the public/cash vendor sales at a fruit packing plant, and basic clerical stuff for my dad. I decided that I abhor customer service. I got my bachelors degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology with a minor in Psychology/Anthropology. I loved learning about it, but decided after graduating that doing that 40 hours per week would make me want to bang my head on the nearest hard object (I, ummm, get bored easily). I worked for about 1.5 years as a CNA in long-term care. I loved caring for folks and the warped sense of humor you develop, but I hated always being understaffed and not being able to give the care folks deserved to have. I was unemployed for a while and did more work for my dad on our family farm. I started working for my church doing clerical/bookkeeping stuff. I am now the head bookkeeper for my church and have taken some accounting classes at our local community college for my job. I have been doing this for 8.5 years and now that I know what I'm doing, I'm bored again... I am currently working at becoming a police officer where I look forward to not doing the same thing every single day and using a variety of skills since I can't decide what I want to do when I grow up - I enjoy too many things and love to learn... I'm not married, so I have no idea what hubby does... Or who he even is....

Right now I take care of my handicapped sister. My jobs before that, starting with the most recent are listed below. I taught preschool for a year and a half. I tutored for almost 2 years. I taught at an in home preschool for about a year and a half. Had one year where I graded papers at a tutoring center, then worked retail, then worked at an institutional preschool, which due to my health at the time ended up being too much. To clarify, I did these 3 things one at a time, not all at once. For a couple years basically unemployed due to illness, but did watch my nephew, babysit, and help people out during this time. I had a summer job as live in nanny before that. My last yr. at college (and no I never graduated), I worked in the library. I had a summer job as live in nanny before that. My second year at college, I worked on the grounds departme. I had a summer job at McDonald's before that. My first year of college I worked cleaning. Plus, through all 3 years of college, I had babysitting jobs, plus lived with a family and had duties to do for them(both babysitting and housekeeping). Before that worked at McDonald's for 2 years, while going to jr. college. Before that, I babysitting jobs. Before that, I was a live in nanny from Jan-June 1990 Before that, I had babysitting jobs, starting from age 12 up. "I'm not married, so I've no idea what hubby does, or who he even is." -phosodaud I'll second that.

I don't do anything at the moment. I'm on a disability pension, and my doctor says I can't work or study. Mind you, with my health being the way that it is, I couldn't do those things anyway.

I'm an income support caseworker - we grant people food stamps, cash assistance and medicaid. An often frustrating job, but it has it's rewards too. I'm planning to move within the next couple of months and am hoping to find a job in human resources. Before my current job, I worked with the child support divisions in NM and OK. And was a marketing assistant for a publishing company. Also worked at a bank for a short time and hope I never have to work for another one - too hard to be so nice to people that are so mean! :) During my college years, I worked as an assistant to the campus event planner, tutor, job coach, and GED instuctor. I am not married at this time.

Loved the work...hated working for the state...and the 3000+ caseload that just left me frustrated knowing how many families had files in my cabinet that I'd never have time to work as fully as I wanted.

I have just started a new job as an optometrist assistant. I'm the one who does the pre-testing before the dr sees you and then afterwards if you want new glasses I help you pick them out and then I also order the proper lenses and what not. My hubby is a chef at a country club. However hopefully by Aug we will be serving our own customers in our own restraunt!!

Wow, how did I miss this thread? This is so interesting! I am currently on maternity leave, so I'm a temp SAHM! I work for an insurance company in the big offices. The job I left for mat leave was an error corrections, fixing system errors, but they moved that position to another office, so I will be learning something new when I go back. I will be doing Policy service on auto or home insurance policies. Before that I was a paralegal, and before that I was a Quality Assurance inspector, inspecting circuit boards and parts for HVAC industry. I loved that job, but couldn't make a living on the pay. I have a degree in Worship Ministry and would eventually like to teach piano and voice. My hubby is a heavy equipment operator for the Dept of Transportation. (Snowplows in the winter, dump trucks, backhoes etc in the summer)

I work as a design consultant/sales associate at a furniture store. That's what I do to earn money--what I do for love love is Stephen Ministry. Have been a Stephen minister for about 3 years. Also involved in new ministry at church--a network of caring for all members but especially for those who seem to fall thru the cracks and are not active or unable to be actively involved in church.

I work at a cosmetics company in their art department. I get translations for the international packaging art from our foreign offices. I majored in Spanish and Art in college, so it's a nice blend of those areas. I really enjoy it and feel like I'm using my gifts and talents. I went to seminary years ago because I thought I was called to foreign missions and ministry. But God showed me I was not cut out for that, and I'm much happier doing what I do now.

I am an environmental scientist/toxicologist and my future husband is an electrical engineer. Eventually I think that I would like to teach environmental science or biology at a small college or a specialized high school for math and science.
