LOL, Susan!! Beth, I hope you were able to find something a little more upbeat for your 6th graders. I student taught in kindergarten and the 6th grade. Let's just say that there is NIGHT and DAY difference (as you well know)!!! Today we're trying to settle into being at home. Our son loves it and I'm enjoying it. I think my husband is a little "envious" because he still has to go to work every day. He gets to come home for lunch though I guess I'd better go get ready to face the day. Our yard needs watered and I don't think anyone wants to see me outside in my nightshirt (as if I would make an appearance anyways).

Sorry ladies- I read earlier this afternoon, but kept get sidetracked (blame it on all the new baby news in the personal folder ). I did choose some songs and got them on the cd before my deadline - that project is over with (hopefully ) I will be glad when Thursday night is over with. I still have to figure out what I am going to say for their "scripture verse" challenge. Any ideas?? I was thinking somewhat along the lines of Phil. 1:9 (He who started the work will be faithful complete what he started in you). But I need some others along the same line. I have a co-teacher that will be helping with this part (he is doing it somewhat unwillingly) and we really want to use several scriptures and then expound on them for the encouragement- 2 minutes tops!! and we have done our "speech" as their teachers I wouldn't worry about it too much, but the admin expects some sort of speech along these lines, so I sort of have to do it. "faith" - (not sure if you want your name being used) - have fun with the master's course. I have looked somewhat at going back, but I really am not in the mood to study/do projects yet and so I keep putting it off. If I wait another year, then I will have enough expirence to go for my national certification. My alma mater has masters in education that includes all of the work for national certification - so all you have to do after you finish the program is take the test and submit your portfolio. Of course you don't have to do it while working towards your certification, but since the classes are the same, you do the exact same work for the most part Though since they only have a couple of the courses on-line right now, I won't be able to do it while at my current location since the school is 6 hours from where I will be I looked at the couch to 5K program- not sure I could do it any time soon (I am like at a barely moving level right now- a walk for more than about 10 mins or on any sort of incline does me in) but would be fun to do once I am at the point that I could run. I am hoping to get busy working on my physical activity level this summer. Then when I start my new school, I will be able to do something on a regular basis each evening. I am hoping to get a dog, so the dog and I can explore our new neighborhood (which will include the entire town ). I haven't found out for sure yet, but my house is right beside the school gym- it would be wonderful if I could get in there to walk during the winter months (when there isn't a basketball game - guess I have no excuse for not going to the home games- I will hear them whether I am in the gym or not ) Okay- I need to get a few things done. I think I have a way to get some things to school that I need to get rid of and I need to make sure it is all ready. Too many things to do, so little time left.

Beth, at some point I'll probably use my real name here. I think I have in another thread or two, so it isn't really a secret. One just never knows who might be reading these threads!!! My alma mater was working on their national certification as well...so...who knows...maybe that will one day be a possibility. For now, I'm thankful that God has called us back to Kansas (I'm licensed to teach there). This last year I taught at a private school & they didn't care whether one had a teaching degree or not. In fact, I was one of the few that had a credential. Tamara, congrats on doing so well on your test! Don't be so hard on yourself. I understand though as I was the toughest critic when I was in college. That is part of my concern with starting my master's degree. I'm a perfectionist that loves to procrastinate! Mandy (I think--if I'm wrong, please forgive me)--what part of Cali do you live in? Currently I live in the Central Valley area until our move to Kansas next month. Working at a summer camp sounds just like my style and something that will keep you out of trouble, LOL. Today I am a bit sore from starting the Couch to 5K program yesterday. Thanks for looking at it Beth. Honestly I just walked and jogged around my house. It worked for me, LOL. I think there may be some other ladies starting it later this month (at least that is what it sounded like in the weight loss thread). Until then, I will just have to keep motivated!! I'm not sure what the day holds...aside from making some chicken enchiladas. Guess I will be doing some improvising as I don't have the regular ingredients on hand and DH has the car at work. I may conduct a job search to see if I can find anything for the summer (that's the only way I'll get paid...unemployment wise or paycheck wise).

I'm critical of myself because my gpa doesn't need any more dips. I'm probably going to apply to graduate school right after the summer's over (if I can conquer the GRE), so these last two summer classes are critical. I can understand that. :)

Tamara, I hear you completely on stressing about grades. Honestly I wasn't planning on ever going back to school so I wasn't terribly worried about that particular aspect when I was in college. I did have a couple of semesters with a 4.0 or nearly so. As a result, when graduation time rolled around, I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I don't say this to brag--really--I'm just trying to encourage you to see that sometimes one particular paper/test doesn't have as much effect as one really thinks in the whole big scheme of things. Granted, I don't know where your GPA is...so you may need every single point or tenth of a point. Depending on where you are enrolling for your master's degree....do you compute your GPA based on your core classes or all of your classes? I know some colleges do things differently. Anyway, I guess I'll find out soon enough whether my grades were good enough to move forward for my master's degree. I haven't been accepted yet, but I'm letting things remain in God's hands & not worrying about them.

(((((tamara))))) - I remember those days of stressing out because I didn't do as good on a test, and coming up to the end of the class and planning out what would happen to my GPA if I made "x" grade in class - to planning out exactly what average I could have and still keep my scholarship (that was the reason why I was concerned - I knew if I maintained my scholarship, my grades would be fine for grad school if I ever wanted to go). I know this isn't a lot of comfort- especially since you are going into the medical field, but there does eventually become a point where the grades don't matter as much. I have a friend that preached a sermon- it was about getting to the finish line- even if it was last place. But he talked about how when he was in flight school (he is US AirForce) that he was the top flyer/graduate. He asked the congregation if we knew what happened to the guy who was last in the calss - he got his wings and was allow to fly. What happens to the doctor that graduates last in his class?? He gets to practice medicine. For those that like perfection (not saying this is you) having that highest mark is important. But once you are out in the real world, most people don't care if you were first or last in the graduating class, but did you graduate and therefore qualified to do what you are wanting to do. Just keep doing your best and allow God to take care of the rest. "faith" - I really think I may do that program, but I for sure won't get it started until I move in two weeks and even then, I am going to have to stick with walking for a while yet. I walked most of the way home from school and was out of breath by the time somebody picked me up. Of course doesn't help that I was out with the kids today and was tired, but still the walk from school is downhill other than one small hill and is not more than a mile. I will be glad when I can walk places and not feel like I have done a day on the farm after walking a mile. I had fun with the kids today. They were fairly well behaved which was really nice!!! The student that I was most concerned about was on my team and after letting him know where he stood and where the boundries were, he did great!! The kids also were very good about the fact that our schedule got messed up due to traffic and went with the flow of things. But, I am tired tonight!! I took about an hour nap this afternoon and I am hopeful that I can sleep decently tonight. I woke up at 4 this morning and never did get back to sleep, so I have had a long day. Alright, I am getting off CW (I must get off now!!) to work on some grades and figuring out where I made a couple of errors and then to bed. Have a great night everybody!!

It's not that bad, but I'm sick-- really sick sometimes. It took a dip a while ago because I was trying to have surgery and recover without dropping, so I had surgery (for example) on tuesday, then returned on wednesday or thursday, then if I had complications just tried to deal and stay in school... then that next semester I had to withdraw completely for emergency surgery. I'll address that on the application, so I'm thinking mabye that will be overlooked/understood. I'm incurably ill, but the "surgery semesters" (three in all) have me to where I can recover only so much. I'm almost 100% sure that I'll be above the minimum when I apply...I'm just trying to make sure I do the best I can in the last grades that go on there before my transcript is sent off. I'm thinking if I can put an above average GRE (above 1230) that it might be okay...or at least put my mind at ease. Lol. I'm not applying for a Master's though-- rather a PhD. I'm computing based on all my classes... I think my biology GPA is probably about the same though. I know that they tend to look more heavily on the last 60 hours, so the sickest times might not matter anyway. ETA (cause I cross-posted with Beth): I've seen people with horrible gpa's still get into graduate school...even someone who had a 1.9 (or something similar); I know it can happen, but I think I'm always prepared for the worst. The minimum requirement is a 3.0 and I'm above that... and I know plenty of people who've gotten into grad school whose gpa's are lower than mine.

ORIGINAL: daughter_of_faith I started a workout routine today. It's the Couch to 5K program. Anyone want to try it with me? Or do y'all have your own workouts established already? I'm kind of pleased that I'm actually doing something besides sitting around all day. LOL The yard has been watered and I've folded some laundry...so I feel like I'm having a semi-productive day. I'm also applying for admission to a master's degree program in Special Education. For the teaching position I start in the fall, I will be on a waiver & I need some special education courses. My DH told me I was going for my master's. (Yikes!) I'm in for the couch to 5K, probably starting next week. My BA is in elementary and special education, although I'm not planning on a Master's. ((Tamara)) We found ants in our kitchen yesterday. There is a season for them here (right now), and we canceled our Orkin service a few months ago trying to save $$. Its now on the list of things we can't shave off of our budget!

We've used orkin for several years and been happy with the service, so the going back to them is ok. I just want these ants to be gone.

Stacy- that is good that you have your degree in special education - in OK, it now requires that you have a master's degree to teach special ed. Lacey- I am sure you have a reason for not including your name in your signature, but it will take most of us a while to figure out which one of you is Lacey and which one is Mandy. I guess I should get up and get the day started. It will be a long one - I probably won't get back on at all today simply because I won't have time. Have a great Thursday everybody!!
