crownlaurel -> A collections call one day after the due date? (6/3/2008 8:25:50 PM)

No, not from a huge loan or mortgage...my mortgage gives me a 10 day grace period. I got a call tonight from AT&T asking me to make a phone check because my acct was past due. I never pay over the phone and I could have sworn I had paid last month so I told him I'd check my bank acct. He then said my last payment was back on April 24th. I said again that I'd check my acct online.

I checked my acct online to make sure. Yep, I paid on April 24th the full amount due on May 2nd. My bill used to be due the 5th of the month but they've changed it to the 2nd, so I didn't realize it was due yesterday. Until I got a call from the collections dept today. Before ATT took over Bellsouth this never happened. I'm surprised they didn't cut off my phone last night [8|] .

They really want their money.

AT&T seems to be having some problems. I kept getting calls from them in regards to lines we have at work. I was out of the office, when I called them back, so I made some phone check payments, figuring I'd clear it all up when I was back in the office. When I get back, I see that we had sent payments, figured they must have been crossing in the mail (with the calls).

The next month I get another call from them. They tell me two of our accounts\lines will be turned off, unless I make payments. I ask them how much we owe and am told, on account XYZ, you have a $12.50 credit of which $38 is past due. On account ABC you have a $58 credit of which $27 is past due. I have to point out three times, that it doesn't make sense that I have credit balances with past due amounts, before the caller agrees that it doesn't make sense. After we both agree, the caller says, "so do you want to make a payment?" To which I reply, "no thank you, but can you send me a check for the amount of my credit."

I miss Bellsouth too. If they keep up with horrible customer service, they'll find themselves without a customer base... I could do without a land line to run my biz, 90% of it is by cell and email.

If it makes you feel any better, I once got a call from collections at a bank where I had a car loan asking when I was going to make a payment.

I told them I would make it by the 15th, when it was due (this was around the 3rd).

I think it was just a mistake--but the man didn't miss a beat and said "So we can expect a payment by the 15th?"

I said "Isn't that what I just told you?"

weird about the phone company...could it have been a con artist trying to get your account number?

I have never gotten a call from AT&T.

Good point Blue. I only give any account info over the phone when I... my ownself... initiated the call.

i once got a collection call from a bank stating that our car payment was almost one month late. i said that didn't seem right because i recalled sending them the check.

the lady replied "oh yes, we have your check, but somehow it got mutilated". to which i replied that if she would send me the mutilated check i would be happy to replace it. she said that would be great, and if i could, make it out for the extra $39 late fee. no, i told her, i don't think that is right.....if they would have called earlier about the check problem, there would not have been a late fee.

she said she was sorry, but they never make calls until the account is late.[sm=sadquestion.gif]

it took a supervisor and about half an hour to convince them that i shouldn't have to pay the late charge.

I got a bill from the orthodontist showing that my payment had not been made. I called them immediately and it turned out my payment had been posted to someone else's account. I was glad they fixed it immediately. I have montly bill to a surgeon. Sometimes they don't post it for weeks after I mail it. Some months I don't even get a bill from them. Once I sent them my payment in my own envelope, rather than the one they send with the bill, because I had not received a bill. The next month I got a bill and a statement had been added, "please use envelope provided." What they'd rather not get a payment if it comes in the wrong envelope?

creationtalk -> RE: A collections call one day after the due date? (6/10/2008 6:36:09 PM)

I had my water turned off once because they posted my payment to another's account...I never got a past due notice because the computer program that generated past due notices had been updated that I had paid, but the billing department, who issued cut-off orders had entered it wrong.

crownlaurel -> RE: A collections call one day after the due date? (6/10/2008 11:37:07 PM)

After I posted this I got a disconnect notice in the mail. I finally got the time to call them and after talking to a couple of people, I was assured it was a computer glitch and I should not have been called until after June 12th (so I wouldn't have been called because I paid it). Maybe the computer read that I made no payment in the month of May (because I paid it early) so it interpreted that as a month behind. Anyway he apologized so I didn't leave ATT, yet. [;)]

That would make me mad.

My story above happened in the last sixty days. They're having some computer issues for sure.

Y'all should deal with the doctor's office, etc. around here. You'd love them!!! LOL

Last month, I received a statement on a Friday from the provider stating we owed them money. The insurance is listed there; however, the insurance hadn't been billed. I called them up on Monday and they told me they didn't have a copy of the insurance card (even though I have given them the card in the office MULTIPLE times to copy....too many years of being on state health insurance and having to give them the card every visit/month). Anyway, I faxed them a front/back copy of the card. Fax goes through, etc.

Then yesterday I get the same bill! I called them up right away to ask what the deal was. After talking to 3 different people, I was told that yes, they had gotten my faxed copy of the card and insurance would be billed (mind you this was AFTER the other two people told me I needed to send the card in again...or pay the bill...as it's past due).

This isn't the first time this has happened...

Oh....the other one that irritates DH and I is when we go to pay bills online. DH has repeatedly set up auto pay with his credit card company. Well, somehow when it is et up as an auto pay...it never ends up going through....all of the payments get canceled!!!! But...when we make an individual payment (using the exact same account information)....the payment is processed. A similar situation happened with the car loan as well...and they say we owe the late fee...to which I politely told them no, we didn't. Still haven't resolved that one, but I just keep paying what is requested online (the regular monthly loan amount).

Our bakery's sales tax has to be postmarked by the 20th of the month, or it is considered late. I always get it out in time, and it's never much anyway (this one was $266.00). It usually comes out of my account by the 25th. And, I am one of these people who checks his account each morning and highlight what came back, so I know when stuff gets back to me.

About 3 times a year, they will send me a notice (with fees) saying it was late. I call them, they get the envelope out, look at it, agree that it wasn't late, and drop the charges.

Well, on the 10th of this month, I pro-actively called them and said "You haven't cashed the check from last month yet, and I want you to just know it went out on time so I don't get another notice saying I was late when I wasn't."

They came back and said "Well, you are definitely going to get a notice, because your check bounced. Twice." I said "Excuse me? I don't think so. I keep up on my acocunts daily, and if it had bounced, I'd know it. Not to mention that since the check left my hands, the lowest my balance has been at any time is $1,940, and the check is for $266.00. Plus, I have overdraft protection"

They said that they presented it twice for payment, and it got rejected both times. I called Wells Fargo, and they said that the check has never been presented for payment. They also gave me reports (on Wells Fargo letterhead) saying that in the last year there have been no overdrafts taken and no NSF checks, and no stop orders on checks on my account to anyone. I also sent them the business card of the Wells Fargo person I dealt with, and said that he would back me up if they wanted to talk to him.

I mailed it off to the Tax people on Thursday. I wonder what will happen next?

By the way, the $266.00 bill is now over $340.00.
