When you get a chance to cross the border to visit our southern friends, what finds are you looking for? What do you always look forward to bringing home. What are your favourite things to buy that you can't get here?

Hey Yolanda! [;)] I've never been to the States...not yet. But I will be going sometime in the near future. My favourite American merchandise is definitely Bath and Body Works or Body and Bath works. I love natural toiletry. Here in Canada I am a Body Shop or Yves Rocher lady. But I tried once a basket of that American product and I actually liked them more than the one I use here in Canada even tho I can't find a boutique for them here. That is on the material side. When it comes to the spiritual arena, I love Joyce Meyer and wish I could attend one of her conferences. I wish if she could come over to Canada and have a conference sometime since she travels worldwide anyway. We are just the neighbours up anyway. Not too far! [:D] Most of my Christian writers I love and admire are Americans. I wish I could say the same about Canada. Although we do have a number of good Christian writers, but not as many as the Americans. My mentors are all Americans. I hope and pray that I will be able to see them someday to just thank them all for the impact they've had in my life. Lord, hear my prayers, Amen!!! [8\|]

When I go home for a visit, we usually go clothes shopping, at least a little bit. In Minnesota there is NO TAX at all on clothes (including shoes and accessories). So if we're in need of something, we try to get it there. I do like to stock up on Bath & Body Works as well, although there's some nice smelling soaps, etc. around here, too. I just haven't explored enough to know which brands/kinds I'd like here. But now that B&BW has discontinued my favorite scent (sun ripened raspberry), it may drive me to that exploration. [;)] On our last trip I bought a block of Swiss cheese - yeah, I know you can get Swiss here, but it's much more expensive (as are most cheeses here). And the last time I looked for Swiss, all I could find was prepackaged slices, not blocks. [&:] I do also miss Monterey Jack cheese.

Years ago we used to buy all of our dairy products & gas in the U.S. Haven't done that in years though. We only live about 4 miles away from the border.

Vanilla Cream Soda! Most of ours is pink and absolutely cloying. You can get some clear or amber stuff that is really tasty! (We can get that, but it's the specialty stuff that comes in individual glass bottles for twice the price of ordinary soda.)

When I was in university I was a 40 minute drive from a State-side outlet mall...we used to go shopping for the clothing deals at Target, Old Navy and Gap because it was quite often that their advertised sales weren't applicable in Canada. On the way out though I always stopped at Wegman's and stocked up on the Weight Watcher's frozen meals (which are now available here). The last time I went cross-border shopping we purchased quite a few books, movies and CDs from Target because the sale prices with the exchange rate was way too good to pass up. ETA: Justin always has me search Target, ToysRUs and WalMart for Star Wars toys and Lego that are considered store "exclusives" or are not available here for any other reason.

I'm not heading to the US any time soon, but family is in a few weeks and I will be asking them to bring back hair products for my daughter and husband. I use the Soft and Beautiful Just For Me Line on my daughters hair. You can buy it here, but what is $8.99 here is $2.99 in the US. Also, I need to get some clippercide for my husband to use when he shaves his head. That is hard to find here. I used to buy Fanta Grape, but we have it here now. I also buy Ruffles Sour Cream and Cheddar chips when they aren't available here.[:D] Other than that...clothes.

I bought Nilla Wafers at No Frills a little while ago! Maybe there another one of those things that we only get here once in a while. I KNOW they were real Nilla Wafers, but a few weeks ago Dh and I were looking for them....and wait, we saw them then too!

No way! Maybe your No Frills is bigger than mine. But I had searched multiple stores (No Frills, Price Chopper, A&P) and didn't find them. Maybe mine will get them soon!

I looked again today when I was there just to make sure I wasn't going crazy. It was the Mr. Christie ones. Anyways, they were in the baking section.

My mum found them at Walmart up there... but they were about 3 x the price that they are down here!! When my family comes down here they like to buy fabric (mum), clothes (everyone!), computer stuff (dad), electronics (siblings) and certain types of food. There is some chocolate yogurt down here that my sister can't find up there and she adores it. Also the price of things down here is usually significantly less so they often buy things you can buy up there but for a lot less money.

Tricia, I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a cheese factory in Warkworth, which should be a good deal less than two hours from you. We used to stop there on the way up to the cottage.

Mmmm. Cheese! That might be a place to stop in either to or from Presqu'ile. I wonder if Hubby would go for it....
