I dunno if there is already a Lewis thread but i didn't feel like looking soooo... What are yuor opinions on him ?? I personally love his work i am absolutley addicted !!!!

Lewis was not only a great author, but a great thinker with a clear understanding of the faith. He brought thinking back into Christianity for the common believer and introduced many unbelievers to the rationality of Christianity.

I am currently reading Mere Christianity , The Problem of Pain and A Grief Observed !! All three of which every one could benefit from reading !! And i totally agree with your statement !![8|][:D]

CS Lewis is fantastic.

As a kid I read the Chronicles of Narnia and was underwhelmed. So I never understood what Christians saw in Lewis until I read the Screwtape Letters. That book was brilliant. Now I totally get why people love Lewis. :)

I have read the whole Narnia series and looooove it. But I not only love Lewis for his fantastic fiction series, but also for his other works. I've only read three chapters in "Mere Christianity", but I've read enough to know that this man was absolutely brilliant.

"Mere Christianity" is one of my favorites. "God in the Dock" (i.e. putting God on trial, for those not knowing what the "dock" is in English courts) is a great book of essays.

What are some of your favorites?

He also has a sci-fi trilogy, havent read it personally but a friend said it was pretty good. And the screwtape letters are good. If you haven't seen it the movie Shadowlands is good, its about lewis with Anthony Hopkins playing him

the sci-fi is quirky but well written. The ideals in it are wonderful.

The sci-fi trilogy is:
1. Out of the Silent Planet - an man from Earth travels to Mars and finds out that Earth is the "silent" planet because it has been sealed off to contain the curse of sin.

2. Perelandra - the same man, Ransom (there is meaning in the name!), travels to Venus where that planet's Adam and Eve have not yet fallen, which he realizes he is there to prevent.

3. That Hideous Strength - Ransom, now an old man, has a team of co-workers trying to hold off the evil one here on Earth until our planet can be unsealed and the rest of the universe's beings can assist in the restoration of Earth.

I loved the first two as a teen, but That Hideous Strength dragged a bit too much in the beginning and I didn't go back and read it until many years later. They are all great books that can be enjoyed as fiction as well at a much deeper levels of theology and philosophy. I love the way he makes the whole realm of spiritual beings perfectly plausible to even a non-believing reader.

I enjoy just about all of Lewis' work. I read the Out of the Silent Planet Trilogy last summer, they were a great read.
I read Mere Christianity and Screwtape Letters several years ago, and I'm planning on rereading them soon.
This summer I thought I would tackle Till We have Faces, has anyone read it?
The Narnian books are probably my favorite by C.S. Lewis.

Till we have faces is maybe the most beautiful read I've ever had. I was numb for two days after reading it.

I'm a big C.S. Lewis fan, but I've never read Till We Have Faces. I'd like to, but it isn't as readily available as a lot of his other books. I have very much loved everything else I've ever read from him, except for one thing, I think it was The Problem of Pain, which I found uninteresting and didn't finish. I haven't always agreed with him, but he was a great writer and a great thinker.

BTW, the Space Trilogy is also a little hard to find, but if you can find it, it really is a great read. Sometimes, especially in Perelandra, he gets into just explaining his ideas and seems to forget he is telling a story, but if you can get past that, then it is one of the best trilogies out there, at least that I've ever read.

I was recommended to read Meer Christianity by one of my good friends who knew that my wife and I were not fully ready to commit ourselves to Christ. I grew up with a little bit of church, but my wife did not. After reading this book together (and a few other incidents that helped God reveal Himself to us), we now have become true believers in the Lord, and try to practice these Christian principles in our daily lives. I just love C.S. Lewis' way he tells the reasoning behind all the things that we do when we do God's work.

C.S. Lewis is awesome. I am starting to read "Screwtape Letters" this summer after the last chapters of "Narnia". Great author!! Getting prepared for a C.S.Lewis lit class next spring. For me to get the full meaning I read things multiple times (each time something new pops out).

I love his writings. I'm trying to have a summer of reading His work. I just ordered a huge collection of his from the library, hopefully, I actually read all of them. :)

I love Perelandra and The Great Divorce, which I found even more interesting and insightful than the Screwtape Letters.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Pilgrims Regress yet, which I love and find to be very funny. It's a Lewis take on the classic Pilgrims Progress.

I am currently reading The Abolition of Man, which is a very different book from any of the others I have mentioned above. I can't think of another work of Lewis' like it. It doesn't seem to be specifically Christian (at least it isn't yet) and it's not for the uninitiated to serious philosophy.
