I was wondering what your first impression of "business casual" is as it pertains to the dress code of a very nice restaurant? I can't get the idea of slightly crisp and professional out of my mind and I know that can't be what is meant when it comes to a classy restaurant at night.

I was looking at the reviews of two restaurants we plan to go to in Atlanta this summer and they both specify business casual and I'm trying to decide what to wear! Both are dinner/live jazz clubs and one is particularly nice.

My initial thought is a casual, but nice skirt that I can wear with heeled sandals, and a semi-dressy top. Any ideas or suggestions would be great!

My guess is no jeans, and khaki or dress pants and skirts. A lot of business casual dress codes is just code for no jeans and flip flops, no tanks and keep your stomach covered [:D]

I'd say no jeans, or shorts. I think khakis and polos for men, skirts and/or slacks and nice blouse for women.

Oh definitely no jeans or khakis. I can tell by the pictures of the one especially, that would never fly!

I guess I'm wondering if bare legs(no pantyhose) and dressy sandals are okay, and if dressy capris would work with a nice blouse. I'll probably go with the skirts to be safe, but I really don't want to have to do the closed in more conservative pump with them. I'm assuming open toed dressy sandals are okay for something like that? And that the skirt doesn't have to look like part of a business suit?

I wear business causal for most of our political stuff, definitely NO jeans or Khakis but I think you already know that, lol.

I usually wear a dressier blouse, a knee length skirt, and heals of some sort. I do my hair more formally and wear appropriate jewlery to either dress up or down the outfit depending on where we are going. I don't think I would wear capri's... DH usually wears slacks, a dress shirt and jacket or a shirt and tie, but never a jacket AND tie.

Thanks! I do plan on wearing my hair up, just for the heat factor anyway, so it'll look a little more dressy that way. I'm hoping that the kinds of things I normally wear to sing at weddings in the summer will work. Not overly dressy, but definitely not casual.

Yea, I was thinking I'd not go with the capris and stick to skirts.

Does anyone wear hose anymore?? I've noticed that many woman are using taning lotions on their legs. I'm sure bare legs and sandals are ok.

Considering that it is summer, I would think bare legs with sandals would be fine in that environment. If I was in that situtation, I would probably wear my black skirt with a semi-dressy top and nice sandals (that I don't own at the moment so I have to wear hose/closed toed shoes).

Also, peep toe flats would work or espadrlles(sp). I have wide leg flowy pants that I wear when we go t dressier restaurants also...hmmm, that sounds funny, wide leg flowy...does anyone know what I am talking about???? [8D][8D][:D][:D]

I think capris might be okay if they were the dressier kind. I have some that are flowing and black dress pant material. I guess they are really more of cropped pants. Depending on the shoe and the blouse, I think they are pretty dressy. Definitely not the casual type of capri.

When we were in Jamaica the resort had dress codes for some of the restaurants. I never saw a woman turned away for what she was wearing (skirts, dress pants or dressy capris with a nice shirt) but I saw plenty of men turned away - including my own husband[8D]

Disney World's idea of "business casual" for their restaurants meant no "tank tops, swimsuits or swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut offs, or torn clothing of any kind." You could wear shorts there if they were "dress shorts." But I am guessing Disney's dress up standards are low since people are on vacation.

Thanks for the suggestions! I couldn't get the "legal secretary" look out of my head...lol.

Red, I do know what kind of flowy pants you're talking about. Those can be very dressy depending on the fabric and the shoes.

That's a good point. I suppose I better find out if ties are required for the men or if just open collar dress shirts are okay.

Catherine, I think you're right about Disneyland's business casual probably being a little more lax than these restaurants, especially one of them. I looked at pictures of the dining room and I can't imagine wearing shorts or pants of any kind in there. The other one looks like it will be a little more lenient.

My daughter lives in Augusta, Ga, so I'll be mostly there...she's my primary reason for the trip. Other than our trip to Atlanta to meet some friends, I'm planning a few days in Charleston if I can work out schedules with my friend who lives there. I love the south!
