Christians do this too, I'm not entirely sure what the relevance of this post is.

He's a law school assistant dean. Where did you get Evolutionist?!?!?

Ted Haggard anyone?

Do you really want to go there? I seem to remember a fairly recent scandal involving a lot of priests and altar boys...

I guess your line of reasoning here is that somehow that since this is guy is a dean of a law school, he did this because of evolution?

evry1needsgod -> RE: Another Evolutionist caught in sex scandal (6/8/2008 10:22:21 PM)

GiordanoBruno

On my opinion, you are one of the following...

1. If you made this post and you are seriously a Christian, you are ignorant. I don't understand the point of your post, and it makes no sense, because everyone has sinned, including you and I.

2. If you made this post as one who is pretending to be a Christian to make Christians look ridiculous (this wouldn't be the first time I've seen it) I would appreciate it if you stop. I don't care what you believe or how much anger you may have against Christians, you still need to respect those who do not agree with you.

This is more likely - "Giordano Bruno" was an Italian philosopher killed in 1600 for what was then considered a heretical view of the universe.

This must be some sort of back-handed anti-anti-evolutionist statement. This accused is the former assistant dean of the law school (and alumnus) of Regent University, "America's Preeminent Christian University."

GiordanoBruno -> RE: Another Evolutionist caught in sex scandal (6/9/2008 12:08:18 AM)

Good catch on Giordano Bruno, Juhd.

It seems that Mr Bruno was inconvenient to the church authorities, so the church authorities had him killed.

I made my post about the Regent University Law School dean accused of child molestation because the concept of biological evolution is often considered to be evil among conservative Christians, and because those who understand and advocate the concept of biological evolution are often considered to be evil, as well.

As a committed life-long Baptist who understands and advocates the concept of biological evolution, I've always been amazed by Baptists who so quick to rail against the "evils of evolution", and condemn those of us who understand the concept as being agents of evil, but provide jobs and support for freaks such as Mr McPherson who abuse children in the charge of the church.

Why do you not rail against Mr McPherson? Should I expect to see a "700 Club" program soon that is devoted to the evil of Mr McPherson? Perhaps you can find some equivalent news of an evolutionary biologist who abuses children.

I'll be waiting for your posts on this.

I just found it quite suspicious that this person joined, and his first and only comment is a posting of a thread on a very odd and nonsense topic such as this.

p.s. thanks for the history lesson! Never knew that.

evry1needsgod -> RE: Another Evolutionist caught in sex scandal (6/9/2008 12:27:30 AM)

Ok, I am trying to understand the point of your post. Here's what I got from it, and correct me where I'm wrong.

First of all, you are a Baptist Christian (same as I) who is a supporter of Evolution, correct? And you feel it is not fair that so-called Christians persecute Evolutionist MORE than a sex criminal?

First of all, I for one do not consider evolutionists evil. They are no more evil than I am, and I will not judge them by labeling them as evil. That would be hypocritical. I do, however, believe they are a bit confused...but not evil.

Secondly, I think you have the title of this thread wrong. I'm not sure if you meant to describe this sex criminal as an evolutionist. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I think the problem with your point is that very few people, evolutionist, atheist, or otherwise, would defend Mr. McPherson. In fact, I think most everyone posting in these threads, though we disagree on most everything else, would all agree Mr. McPherson acted in an evil manner, and should be punished according to the appropriate laws. So I think your basic thesis is wrong, and there really is little to discuss on the issue.

But I would also disagree that Christians consider the ‘concept of biological evolution’ to be evil. I think in it’s narrow application, most Christians, conservative or otherwise, accept certain readily observable aspects of biological change – the radiation of species, the selection of certain variations due to environmental factors, extinction, etc.

What they don’t accept (many on scientific grounds) is that evolutionary mechanisms are sufficient to explain the whole of life’s history, or fundamental human nature and characteristics.
And as much as those ideas are foisted upon our citizenry by force of law, it will be (and should be) seen as evil.

At least one almost certainly exists, and is just as irrelevant to the validity of evolution as the atrocious (alleged) acts of Mr. McPherson.

If you want to play in this forum, we'd all appreciate it if you avoid disingenuous posts. It's hard enough to credit that some people actually believe what they post here, without figuring out whether it's intended ironically.

If you ever get to Rome, I recommend a pilgrimage to the Campo dei Fiore. When I was there, Bruno was surrounded by a wonderful farmers' market.

You make it sound like you speak for all Christians. You don't. You should make it clear that when you say "they", what you really mean is a vocal minority of Christians don't accept the evolutionary mechanisms are sufficient.

Perhaps it wasn't clear but the 'they' there refers to those Christians that don't accept evolution whole hog.

lpt -> RE: Another Evolutionist caught in sex scandal (6/10/2008 2:14:42 PM)

He's been *accused* of this crime.

He has not yet had his day in court to defend himself.

The accusations seem to have come from two girls who lived in a shelter he helped run.

Let's not damn this guy before he has a chance to respond to the accusations. Too many times innocent men have been falsely accused by bitter girls.

Jhud -- you are judging this man guilty before he's even been able to defend himself. What if the accusations are false? Here we are damning the man because of what may end up being false accusations. It wouldn't be the first time that girls who are in a shelter for troubled youth falsely accuse their supervisor....

You are right of course from a legal standpoint; I assumed the scenario for the sake of discussion.

Okay. I'm trying to see where you're going here but I'm totally lost. You posted this thread under the title "another evolutionist caught in sex scandal," but in fact what you posted had nothing to do with another evolutionist, though it did involve a sex scandal. I might as well have posted this article under the title "Another Wiccan high priest caught in sex scandal," and it would be just as (in)accurate.

Some Christians, it has to be said, have called evolution evil, and those who accept it evil. But I hope you find a broader experience on these forums, should you choose to stay under your current username. I come and go from these forums, but on those occasions when I'm here, I've clashed pretty regularly with people like Jhud (who posted above), and I don't recall any time when either of us called the other actually evil.

I highly, highly doubt that McPherson was given the job with the knowledge that he was a child abuser. (And I should stress at this point that he is still accused, not convicted, of that crime.) In the last Baptist church where I volunteered to work with youth, a couple of years ago, there was both a general mistrust of the theory of evolution, and a great effort, including criminal records checks and education about acceptable and unacceptable behavior, for everyone considering working with youth, no exceptions. While we disagreed on views about evolution, I don't think a single person present in that environment would have comfortably stood by and did nothing if there was a reason to believe youth could be at risk because of one or more of our volunteers.

I don't speak for the 700 Club. I'm fairly certain, given a few minutes, I could fire up Google and find a biologist arrested for some form of abuse. What would that prove? I would not judge evolutionary biology on the basis of the actions of a few evolutionary biologists.
