It depends...you can get a layered look, but you're right, you can't get the actual layers of paper. I'll have to see how "flat" they feel once I have some of my finished pages printed. I've seen people do some really neat digital layouts though.

I have some digital scrapbooking software, but I never quite got into that.

All this talk makes me want to get creative and get going on scrapbooks. No time right now, but on the bright side, it gives me incentive to finish up the job I'm working on right now!

Does anybody make cards? I'm starting on that stuff too. My creativity there isn't the greatest, so I'm making ones that I liked from magazines.

Your getting pretty close to that due date my dear! Of course you could wait a couple days til the 27th and I could have another birthday buddy!

LOL......nah...I don't want to wait!!!!!!! (I have a thread HERE if you want to follow along with what's going on with everything. Donna is going to be called from the hospital when baby is born so she will post updates on there).

and to get this back on topic....I haven't even thought about getting a new baby book!!! I better go start looking to see what is available!!!!

yeah me too. I have tried it out, but it's just so hands-off for me...and I like the hands-on approach to crafting.

Lexie, I do some card making too. I combine scrapbooking methods with some rubber stamping(embossing and edging with glitter, etc) and they come out nice. I think it's a lot like scrapbooking...you kind of find the flow and get ideas as you get into it. I used to mostly copy or semi-copy ideas, but now can do them like I do scrapbooks. But, I have to be in the mood. They never go well when I'm really just not feeling creative.

I love to scrapbook but also find it hard to always set up and tear down all the time. I'm pretty CM focused, but do use a lot of other things... but I will always use CM albums and pages. I used another album one time, supposedly a high quality album... hated it. So, only CM for that. I have a lot of CM tools, but I do buy paper and embellishments at many other places.

I also got a CriCut in December and then later got the computer program for it too. Ohh... that cant get me into all kinds of trouble. I love it though!

I've scrapbooked for several years now and love it when I make the time. I have an album for each of my 3 children and now am working on the 2nd album for each of them.

I've seen where people tear paper to create animals or embellishments. Has anyone had success with this effect? If so, would you mind sharing any tips? I did one page in each of the kid's albums to create a sand effect with different shades of beige and tan and brown. It came out pretty good; but I would like to be more creative with it.

I usually sit down with my pics and paper, etc. and wind up doing way too many pages in one sitting just because I want to get "caught up" at a particular time. Obviously, I need to pace myself. I have those idea books; but does anyone ever run out of ideas for lay-outs? What gives you inspiration? Just thought it'd be good if we could circulate some fresh perspectives??

I've torn paper like you did for the sand, but I can't imagine having the paper tear well enough to be able to paper piece an animal.

I have a friend who is into paper piecing. She gets patterns out of scraping magazines and cuts up paper into tiny its and then fastens them together to creat things like Tigger. It takes an incredible amount of time and patience, but she loves it.

I get inspiration everywhere. I may look at a room and think I love those colors and then use them in a page. I get inspiration from the photos themselves. I like ScrapJazz.com to see what others are creating and get ideas there. MIL gave me a calendar with layouts. Also, when you buy something from creative memories, many times there is a page of ideas that can inspire you. Really anything with colors and shapes can make me say, I think I will try that in my scrapbook. Currently, I don't have a magazine that I'm liking for regular inspiration, but occasionally I'll scraplift something I see as I flip through a scrapping mag at the book store. Oh, and most of my scraplifting isn't making an exact copy of the inspiration (although I have certainly done that as closely as colors and photo size will allow)... mostly, it's taken in part and changed a lot and then added to other elements.

I tend to look at sketches and online galleries for inspiration. There are several sketch galleries now :
Got Sketch
Becky Higgins sketches
Sketches by Suzy
and my favorite Triple the Sketch

If I can't come up with a layout idea, I can often be found perusing these sites! or the gallery here.

Sometimes a song lyric will also trigger an idea!

I've never been really good at paper piecing so I don't do it very often. Sometimes tho I do like the look of paper tearing for a border of some sort.

Blessings,

Garsy

I love that Triple the Sketch site! That will definitely give me inspiration for my cards!

For my book layouts, I look at magazines and stuff, but kind of end up doing my own stuff. When I was in high school I edited our yearbook, and my favourite part was layout, so I still use a lot of what I learned then in my books. I went to an arts school so we were challenged to be very creative with our layouts!

Great!

I'll let Patter and the rest of the ladies there know that you love the site! I met all those ladies through the Create My Keepsakes site! Patter is an amazing mother of a set of triplets and STILL manages to inspire others with not only this website but she is also is the one that coordinates the scripture challenge for CMK!

Blessings,

Garsy

Thanks, Garsy, for the links and ideas. I'll check them out!

If anyone else has any great ideas for inspiring creativity or other practical things that have worked for you, maybe you could share those as well.
